March 20, 201511 yr In 5 years time Matic could be the best defensive midfielder in the world and Brown is never a central midfielder. Think he'll end up as a winger if he makes it here - big if though. Boga through the middle is the great hope. Sorry, I meant Baker all along not Brown. My bad its been a long day. I would love a centre 3 of Colkett-RLC-Baker someday, both for Chelsea and the NT. Not just English but London lads aswell. Yes, I am one of the rare few who still cares about the NT as well. There's also Zouma who can cover that position but the point is that in all likelihood Jose will sign Pogba. Fans around the world get their wish and we marginalise yet another young English player. We'll just have to agree to disagree. For me, seeing one of our young players make it would be as good as any trophy. You are being rather pessimistic on this. I genuinely feel tha RLC can have a future even if we buy Pogba. And that was what I was criticising the article for. those two things are not mutually exclusive. The quality of youth in our ranks fills me with optimism, maybe I am being foolish here but I think one day the likes of Solanke, Baker, Boga and RLC can Take over first team spots from Costa, Oscar, Hazard and Matic. Think he'll end up as a winger if he makes it here - big if though. Boga through the middle is the great hope. That's a complete misunderstanding of what Arsenal did. Their great mistake was UNDERINVESTMENT in the first team, something I don't see us doing especially with the gaps that need filling in central defence and on the right-wing. We essentially play a midfield three (Matic, Fabregas and Oscar) and that doesn't leave a lot of minutes for the likes of Ramires and Mikel as it is. Plus there's players like Chalobah, Ake and Boga who will come through in the next 1-2 years. There's also Zouma who can cover that position but the point is that in all likelihood Jose will sign Pogba. Fans around the world get their wish and we marginalise yet another young English player. March 20, 201511 yr nah, no chance pogba ends up here Says who? We have by far enough to sign him and Varane. His agent has already come out and said that Pogba would prefer not to move to Real. It's between us, City and PSG.
March 20, 201511 yr Very possibly. Has everything to his game and has an awesome physical presence too. He needs to be challenged though. More than that he represents the best hope of getting an English heart in the team for the long-term and that is something we desperately need. Yeah we do badly need some homegrown options since Cole and Lamps left and also with JT getting on now. I remember the same sort of hype about Josh a few years back, hopefully this doesn't turn out the same and we give RLC some game time to develop him.
March 20, 201511 yr Love for us to produce another JT. Be a while until that happens though, I reckon.
March 20, 201511 yr Love for us to produce another JT. Be a while until that happens though, I reckon. Christensen
March 20, 201511 yr Christensen Possibly but he has a ways to go. Good on the ball but defensively I have concerns. Been far more impressed with Clarke-Salter in all honesty.
March 20, 201511 yr Christensen he is rated, and rightly so. still only 18. apparently going on loan next season to a championship side. meh.

I would love it if you were right but really cannot see it happening. Maybe it is different this time but what makes those 4 any different to McEachran, Chalobah, Ake, Bruma, Tore, Sala etc? As someone commented the other day, the lad playing up front for Spurs in the youth cup game the other day, has more chance of progressing to the first team (as Kane has done) than any of our youngsters do to ours. Maybe that's right as we are looking to win the PL and CL every season whereas Spurs obviously aren't but it would be nice to at least think they had a chance of doing so. I'm a fan of Baker but he has struggled to get games on loan and is now at MK Dons. All the time we can go out and sign players for £20m-£50m, I think we all know that the only ones who are likely to break through are those who are truly exceptional.
March 20, 201511 yr Possibly but he has a ways to go. Good on the ball but defensively I have concerns. Been far more impressed with Clarke-Salter in all honesty. I really do think Christensen will be a class act, he's got something about him.

Not just English but London lads aswell. Yes, I am one of the rare few who still cares about the NT as well. I like Colkett but I just wonder if he's got that extra something in him. I hope so because on paper he's got the lot. I still hold out hope that Nat Chalobah can make it here. He seems to be regaining some of that amazing form he showed at Watford and he's still relatively young. Baker....I'm always torn on. I don't know many players who are as two-footed as him, he can score goals and his set-pieces will take him quite far. Yes I'm still a little unconvinced. You are being rather pessimistic on this. I genuinely feel tha RLC can have a future even if we buy Pogba. And that was what I was criticising the article for. those two things are not mutually exclusive. I actually agree with you calling me pessimistic and you've made some excellent points. You've convinced me that we could go for both Pogba and still blood Loftus-Cheek but it's going to be a very tough balancing act. For that to happen we'd need to get rid of Mikel and Ramires but it would make us a more proactive team I think. I could see one of Oscar and Willian going as well. One of Solanke and Abraham has to make it here though.
March 20, 201511 yr I really do think Christensen will be a class act, he's got something about him. Don't think he's any better than Kalas to be honest and look where he is now.
March 20, 201511 yr Don't think he's any better than Kalas to be honest and look where he is now. Kalas is doing well at Boro and if they go up then he's a candidate to stay there. Long-term I think he could actually be the next Ivanovic. Christensen is a lovely player on the ball, he's got decent pace and he reads the game pretty well but he looks a little timid at times.
March 20, 201511 yr I really do think Christensen will be a class act, he's got something about him. Christensen is seems really gifted. I see him as being in the Carvalho mould though. Needs to add some physicality to his game. Alghough he has spent 3 years in the youth system, it wouldnt be the same feel with him as he is not going to play for England and he was brought in on big money. Very different feel from someone who joins the club before the age of 12 and come through.
March 20, 201511 yr Christensen we will pobably end up buying Varane and then Christensen will be left in the dark.

All the time we can go out and sign players for £20m-£50m, I think we all know that the only ones who are likely to break through are those who are truly exceptional. Josh had a big hype around him when he made his debut but I think Josh, Bruma, Tore and Sala never had the required amount of talent. This was further compounded by there being no support and managerial merry go round. In today's scenario of FFP constrainst and the stability that Jose will bring, the youngsters have a perfect chance to break through. Plus the quality and attitude of some of these lads is just unbelieveable. You are right with the fact that we will always be chasing the PL and CL and the presure will always be there on Jose but that should hopefully reduce the importance of the league and FA cups enough to play yough teams in those competitions all through.
March 20, 201511 yr we will pobably end up buying Varane and then Christensen will be left in the dark. I'd like Christensen to make it but Varane just has everything and if he's available then we need to go for him. Varane and Zouma could be an incredible partnership.

I don't see how next season anything will be any different, we will still be under pressure from the off as we will hopefully be the reigning champions going for it again. For a start we wouldnt "not have won the league for 5 years". Jose wouldnt have had a trophy drought for 3 years. It will be different and RLC will be one year wiser/stronger. He is never so vocal about something he is not going to do. Edited March 20, 201511 yr by Indigo_Blue
March 20, 201511 yr Protecting him from what exactly? I don't see how next season anything will be any different, we will still be under pressure from the off as we will hopefully be the reigning champions going for it again. I would assume protecting him from playing in the high pressure situation of a title chase with only 10 games to go, if RLC cocked up in some way at such a key stage it's a huge burden to carry. By what's being said he'll train with the first team during pre-season and go into the new season with an equal chance of all the other players of being selected. An ideal scenario for us would be to win the league with a game or two in hand so that Jose can give him some minutes to prove that he is serious about bringing him through.

I don't see how next season anything will be any different, we will still be under pressure from the off as we will hopefully be the reigning champions going for it again. I think he's trying to get this team over the line and win the title, I think next season he'll feel more comfortable integrating RLC into a team of winners.
