Friday Evening games

Featured Replies

I like Friday night games, Leicester away in the 70's (the orange smoke bomb), Fulham v. Soton in the fog back in the 70's when I told the Thamesbank that there were only a a few Southampton in the Putney End, they went around at half time and got chased out by beer monsters with beards.

I'm not a fan of this decision at all, i like my Premier League football to be on during the weekend, it's bad enough having Monday night matches.

I bet we will lose another 3pm Saturday game as well. We don't have many 3pm games as it is, if they take another then Saturday football will be ruined. It's far more exciting having most teams play at the same time.

Why can't they just leave the game alone instead of constantly trying to change things ?

Well they're saying its only gonna be 10 games for now so I guess they'll see what the viewing figures are. I actually don't mind Monday Night Football myself but not having as many 3pm Sat games really does dampen the excitement of checking the scores and I don't get to matches unfortunately but going at 3pm on Sat has to beat Friday Night, Sunday and Monday.

Seem to remember us playing United on a Friday night once, was either a 2-2 or a 3-3?

We did. Yes, it was 2-2. In 2002. Zenden scored when one of the goals. I'm sure where there were complaints at the time about the game being on a Friday.

Not a fan of Friday night football but it's better than Monday night though so I can tolerate it if it's appearing from 2016 onwards.

Give me Saturday and the occasional Sunday game and I'll be happy!

I'm a massive fan of Friday night football. Having a young family means that I don't normally go out too much these days so the more football on the tv the better. I rarely get to watch a 3pm kick off. It's right in the middle of the day which is a pain.

Can't see us ever being on a Friday unless it is to give us an extra day ahead of a big european fixture, which can only be a good thing. Have we ever been on mnf since it came back?

First game of the season against Burnley was the last one. Last season when we beat City away 1-0 was another one as well.

I don't like it, especially when the big games are on on a Monday night, that is just stupid.

I wouldn't mind so much if they replaced Monday night football for Friday night football but having both is too much.

I think they will alternate it, I can't see thee been Friay Night Football on the same weekend as Monday Night Football.

Middlesbrough 0 Chelsea 0 friday 11th Dec 1992, our coach driver got f**king lost even though we could see the ground, got there well in to the 1st half, game was dire, we froze our nuts off, only 600 CFC there mostly northern blues.

It was crap went back in the Jan on a sunday in the fa cup 3rd rnd got to Bham game was pp, game was then a weds night, which i also went to.. lost 2.1

Jose finally gets his wish. I understand they've been doing that in Portugal for years.

Not sure what I think of the Friday night games. In some ways it would be cool to come home from work, crack open a beer and watch the match....but then the rest of the weekend would feel strange, unless there are other big games on saturday and sunday to keep you entertained. More time for more productive things over the weekend I guess!!

Its happening now, so we may as well embrace it.

Nah, i would rather whinge and moan

I think this is a great idea. It's certainly a better f**king idea than Monday Night football which is a ridiculous premise.

Most blokes tend to go to the pub on a Friday to unwind anyway, so football on in the background is a bonus. If it's an away match then it's easier to swing a half-day at the end of the week for most people, you can turn it into a long weekend and maybe stay overnight, it gives the teams an extra half-day's rest if they're playing in the following midweek, it's one more reason not to have to watch rugby league and the match finishes early enough to get back on it and sleep it off on the Saturday.

A good idea for once.

A really good idea would be to put 3pm Saturday games up for auction and allow teams who sell-out their home games to broadcast the matches for £10 each (or a season ticket) to allow more fans to watch their team live and increase revenues for the clubs....but of course some toss-bag on the board at Leyton Orient or Doncaster will object because it might draw supporters away from going to their matches.

Wonder why I can't remember it lol was that the game we won 3-0?

I certainly remember it as it was our second game of the 2002-2003 season! I also remember this was the same night where tributes were paid to the two young girls who were murdered in Soham and were both avid Manchester United supporters as a minutes silence was observed at the start of the game.

We ended up drawing 2-2 with them at Stamford Bridge with Man Utd equalising twice in this game.
