Eva Carneiro

If all of these reports are true - then the club (and Jose) looks absolutely pathetic.  Trained medical professionals should have absolute autonomy to make issues related to their field - be it whether a player has passed a fitness test or whether a player needs treatment.  A doctor should never have to err on the side of caution because of the situation in the game - and there are situations in the game where people's lives could be seriously damaged by a few moment's delay.

A manager, or any other playing staff member will always struggle to achieve a objective opinion of the situation.

There is quite clearly something out of balance with the medical staff at Chelsea as far as I'm concerned with regards to payer safety.  Ever since the Oscar incident earlier in the year where he was so obviously concussed there has been a question about the level of protection of our own players (for me, if anything, that incident would have warranted reprimanding the matchday medical staff).

I still wonder if there is more to this than what we know. The Facebook post, the sudden decision Eva is not welcome on match days, etc. Doesn't anyone else feel like there is more behind the scenes on this?

It definitely seems like there is

Agreed. The media make Jose out to be petulant bad guy here but that will only be half the story, particularly if the reports if Fearn keeping his role are accurate.

Well Jose was extremely annoyed by Diego Costa's hamstring issues cropping up again at the start of the season. It's the only medical issue I can think of but can't see how Eva Carneiro can be held responsible for it.

Of course she might just be a scapegoat. Jose likes to make examples of people by manufacturing issues around them in order to get rid of them. He did it with Mata, Schurrle and De Bruyne who allegedly didn't fall into the Mourinho way of doing things and thus had to go.

Jose will get rid of anyone, no matter how popular, in order to lay down a marker for the rest of the group. I think it's more likely that she's completely innocent of any wrong doing and is just being made an example of to get everyone to fall into line behind Jose. That's why it seems so unfair on her. It's the Jose way folks, and it usually works. That's why he's so successful.

I don't think that Jose's behavior is particularly weird, The facebook post sealed her fate. Can't think of an employer or a group leader who'd have acted differently.

Jose did the sensible thing, this time. She was way out of line.

I don't even know what to say to someone responding like this...

If my employer publicly shames me for doing my job, they can f**k off and kiss my ass.

Jose could have done this behind the curtains and not drag the club over the media all over again. He just can't hide from the spotlight he loves it,Eva did he job and Jose was wrong for blaming her in the media.

Pretty much as simple as that

If reports are accurate Jon ran on first, Jose has not singled anyone out.

It's on tape, he ran on first, so the reports are accurate. :p

EXACTLY.  He said "my medical staff."  And the papers have ran with it merely being Eva.

Maybe Jose was jealous her arse was getting more attention that he was?

That's not the way to go if you're aiming for a certain level of success in your career. Complaining and further enhancing problems (which she did with the facebook post) aren't things that are gonna bolster your reputation as a subordinate. (I am not saying it's good because it's like that, but that's the reality, and Eva - with the way she responded - would have run into similar troubles with most other employers.)

Does anybody have any ideas about what the setup will be now?

Clearly, we need medical staff on the bench. Perhaps Jose wants more control over the circumstances under which the medical staff can enter the field of play, and might be using this opportunity to reorganize matchday procedures. There are Premier League rules regarding this, but there's always wiggling room within those rules. Or maybe he's just changing the matchday medical staff and leaving it at that.

She is a highly trained medical professional and Jose is an elite manager and possibly the best in the world. She knows science and safety risks but Jose knows the game and has seen probably over a million tackles in his career and he knows when players are trying it on because recent history shows his sides have been some of the biggest culprits of this think Deco, Ronaldo, Drogba, Robben, Etoo, the list is endless.

So who’s to say whose right or wrong in this situation but can you imagine that one day she and her assistant never ran on the pitch and attended to an injured player and something bad was to happen, then what would the situation be like for the injured player, the club and more importantly her?

The interviewer baited Jose quite well and Jose being Jose fell for it and spoke out.

Of all the doctors and physios we have had though I have never known one to run on the pitch as much as her. It’s as if every time a player is not on his feet she and her assistant go sprinting off.

Being a football fan I must say this really slows down and interrupts our games and yes there are times when I see her and her assistant sprint off I want to say get ya f**king arses back here, f**ker will get up in a minute. This becomes incredibly frustrating especially when we are chasing a game.

If she was at the club in the days of when Drogs and Robben would continuously play possum she would be having seizures the poor girl.

Her job is unbelievably hard. She has to be constantly alert for the whole 90 minutes for the safety of the players.

Who would fancy her job?

Bayern have also had their moments with their medical team and due to game being more safety conscientious I can only see more clubs having these incidents.

Having now seen the video of the incident and I must say I couldn't help but laugh. Eva ran on the pitch like Adam Sandler’s waterboy and Jose did his best Basil Fawlty impression. Comedy gold.

Jose is being a f**king spanner here.

He's pissed that we drew our first game and that it put massive pressure on us already with our away game to City right around the corner. There was absolutely no need to publicly take it out on our medical staff though, that was bang out of order.

I think her posting on Facebook was a strategic move on her part..she is not a stupid woman and I think she knew full well what the fall out would be towards Jose'....stupid move on her part...has to be more to this than meets the eye.

Surely Jose has never criticised medical professionals for being too slow to respond to an injury?

It was just a general comment from a disgruntled medical practitioner.

Back to the reaction though, the fb post was tantamount to criticising back which was ill advised.

I referred to this type of post in another thread so I'll just simply say yes he did.  And now he has criticized medical staff for making his team play a man down due to a non-existent injury.  What's your point? Are they supposed to be related because aside from Mourinho commenting there's little to no correlation.

Mourinho is always criticizing, thats a common trait among people who are successful at the highest levels.  They demand damn near perfection from those around them, hence the success.  I wager that the medical staff is compensated in such a fashion that such expectations could not be viewed as grossly unfair.

mmmm.....wasn't exactly a 'shaming' was it - so bit of an over-reaction from you there it seems to me. Jose was, I feel, in answering the questions put to him merely questioning the all-out response from the sideline medicos. If you look at the incident involving Hazard objectively I doubt that one could make the case on the visual alone that Hazard was in any way injured. Moreover, there was very little time left in the game & if Hazard has to depart the field then we're down to eight field players to defend etc. It's all very well to state that someone is just 'doing their job' but any part of the management team when performing their respective roles must be able to bring some discretion to their individual tasks. Ultimately, in sports that involves a balancing act in respect to the task in hand in any given context. It also involves the player: I feel that Hazard should of immediately waved the medicos away sooner & got to his feet sooner. It's a team game - everyone involved must pull together - and there is no room for offended sensitivities in professional sports & ultimately one must defer to the Manager. Eva's facebook offering was naively reactive - not so much in the message - but in its timing.

As for your reaction - had it been you - well....you strike me as someone who is very young and/or very conceited. That of course is a matter for you but with such an attitude I doubt that your career will blossom. If one can't take criticism in a job & rise above it one doesn't get very far.

@youlots To be fair to Hazard being winded isn't an injury but it certainly makes it very difficult to get on your feet or be aware of the medical staff and waving them away before they are by your side.
