The Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro, who has been stripped of her first team duties by Jose Mourinho, was twice beckoned onto the pitch on Saturday by referee Michael Oliver to treat Eden Hazard ahead of the incident which infuriated the Chelsea manager.

Carneiro was told on Tuesday that she would no longer be Chelsea’s on-field doctor on matchdays after the incident in which she and head physiotherapist Jon Fearn ran on to treat Hazard in the final minutes of the 2-2 draw with Swansea on Saturday – against Mourinho’s wishes.

Yet footage shows that in the moments before the Chelsea medical team entered the field of play the referee Oliver twice turned to the bench after Hazard went down, following a challenge from Gylfi Sigurdsson, and signalled for the pair to come on. If Carneiro was to take her case further then Oliver’s intervention in the sequence of events would be a powerful piece of evidence on her behalf.

Under the General Medical Council good medical practice guidelines, Carneiro would have been obliged to enter the pitch when referee Oliver called her on – regardless of whether Mourinho wanted her to treat the player or not. Ignoring that request would put her in breach of one of the GMC’s first tenets under the “safety and quality” responsibilities.

Doctors are advised that they are obliged by the GMC to “take prompt action if you think that patient safety, dignity or comfort is being compromised”. As medical care providers, Carneiro and Fearn are required to put the principles of the GMC above the wishes of their employer.

So not just a knee jerk reaction then, something Mourinho has been banging about all summer.

Doesn't explain or excuse his behavior. If Mourinho was unhappy about his medical staff, he should have dealt with it in a professional manner.

Personally, I believe our medical team has done brilliantly. Last season we probably had the best record in terms of players' fitness which certainly played a big part in our success given that the squad wasn't very deep.

I'm choosing to believe that this has been delibratly leaked to the press and come city, Eva will be on the bench, achieving to things:

1) Showing the press for the numptys they are

2) Completely taking all focus away from the fact that we played like complete turd in the second half last week and Swansea deserved more then a point

Interesting theory but seems very unlikely

Im expecting you to fly over some of your finest Guinness as way of apology for doubting me next week

At the end of the day the manager is the boss.

If he feels there are members of his staff who he can't trust for whatever reason then it has to be to the benefit of the club that he has people he can trust.

No one knows what's went on behind the scenes between the medical staff and Jose but if one has to be moved on it cant be Jose because he's far too important to what we are trying to do here.

Of course he could and should have kept this in house and not vented his frustration to the media but it's done now and there is no taking it back.

It's a rubbish situation but ultimately it comes down to who the club need the most...Mourinho or the current medical team. One can be replaced fairly easily...the other I'm not so sure.

I didn't say it did.

I quite concur, considering how many matches we played and the amount of players used I think our entire medical team did a fantastic job. They can't be held accountable for Costa, he had the same problem at Atletico. Clearly something has happened behind the scenes but keep it there, do not continue to slate fellow colleagues to the press, they don't exactly get the chance to address it to the world, why should Mourinho?

I agree the press wouldn't be making such a big deal about it if both our on-the-side-of-the-pitch medics were both men but Eva has probably worked just that little bit more to get where she is (male Premier League team) for obvious reasons, she wouldn't have got there if she wasn't bloody good, same for the men too.

The reality is that the Jose is the manager, if for whatever reason he  loses confidence in any of his backroom staff he can chop and change as he pleases. We know certain things that happened, but I think that there is  more that's happened behind the scenes and the facebook comment  has probably made the situation worse.

Since he has aired the dirty laundry to the press he owes a proper explanation to put it to bed. I hope he feels like an idiot for his post match comments, because he sure looks like one to me and I have been his staunchest defender up to now.

Since he has aired the dirty laundry to the press

He has ???

Eva should have just stayed quiet, thanking people for their messages of support can be seen as her saying Jose is in the wrong. I think Jose was well within his rights to show his displeasure.

The only reason it's in the media is because she's a pretty lady , I'm sure if I did the same thing nobody would have talk about it , I understand Jose .. You can't rush the pitch wen there's 3 minutes left and your best player is down , I guess her mom side get the best of her

Are you for real or a proper WUM no mark ??

A) As previously stated you can't rush on to any pitch , the Ref has to allow you.

B) The Ref asked the player if he needed treatment and he requested it .

C) From the Telegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/chelsea/11796150/Eva-Carneiro-braced-for-axe-from-Chelsea-bench-after-criticism-from-Mourinho.html

In a speech made to a conference held by the Swedish football federation last year, Carneiro said: “In every (medical) television programme I have ever watched in my life, the female doctor is hyper-sexualised. She goes off with Tom Cruise and it is all happy endings. Or she is not present. Or she is a lesbian.

“This is the perception young girls grow up with of what a female doctor is. This needs to change. There need to be ass-kicking women who are not behaving like men, who do a really good job and save the day. That is not going off with Tom Cruise! I think women are discouraged from a young age.”

Yep sounds like the Mum side ..............

Was Jose not paying attention at this key moment? Surely he could have shouted "hey! Stop right there!! Do not treat him!!!"

And if anyone should be told to stay away on match days for not understanding the game, surely it should be Willian. After all, he's the one paid maybe 100 grand a week to understand football yet managed to pay no attention to the fact that by mooching around in his own half he was playing Swansea's forwards on side and which resulted in the sending off, penalty and equaliser.

Hardly mooching, he was covering a wingback. That Terry and Cahill didn't see him is a different story

I'm getting annoyed again. Why is looking good at 41 a surprise? We place too much value on younger women and not enough on age and aging. There was a lady on the train today, she wasn't young, she wasn't slim, but I looked at her a few times thinking how attractive she was, very short red hair, simple dress style, gorgeous.
