Eva Carneiro

Why didn't Jose apologize publically in the first place is beyond me. What did he gain by not doing it? Principle? It was a massively stupid incident in the first place. Incident where Jose didn't need to react the way he did. Totally unprofessional. I'm 100% sure he regrets it but is stubborn.

Maybe he wanted to show the players compromise is never good...? No idea.

I'm not saying Jose was wrong about the situation with Hazard BUT everything after that he handled like an idiot.

That's when Jose lost me. If he had offered an apology, which he still has not, then much of this mess could have been avoided. Surely he knows he did something wrong...or does he not?

I don't think it's about the money for Carneiro. Usually offers like that require the person to never speak about the incident again, and she's not willing to do that.

Here we go again, our club involved in more negativity & in the News, am i the only one who gets fed up with all the drama?

Only Jose knows why he reacted the way he did & to say it was bizarre is an understatement.

Only at Chelsea eh.

I'm not going to be popular. She didn't expose wrong doing, her life wasn't ruined. She was not so affected that her marriage was on hold.

That said, I respect she is exercising her legal right and freedom of choice.

I don't know if this is for damage, an apology, or both. Fortunately she could already afford to go to court when many can't, including many low paid women such as the carer who blew the whistle in an abusive care home.

Never a truer word has been said. This could have all be avoided if someone at the club had acted sensibly.

'When a man is wrong and he won't admit it, he always gets angry'

Most managers would be frustrated at the time. Down to ten men win a free kick in injury time, with him receiving treatment we went down to nine men. It's not a given that trainers need to go rushing on unless it's a head injury. Tell me how many teams have a doctor running on every 5 minutes any way.

Jose swore in frustration, I Know Portuguese people and they use that phrase Filho da puta for everything, don't take it personal. John Fearn did his bit at the training ground and is now back with the match day staff I believe. If Eva had done the same it would have all blown over. What's the difference of being a training ground doctor or a match day doctor, or was she going to miss the away fans abusing her?

If she gets a sorry in court and she's happy then fine, she is in a strong male industry where arguments and even fights happen and people don't go to court over it. You can't play the sexism card and equality at the same time.

New to this forum and I'm a gooner but half my family are Chelsea and the other half Palace. Not sure how that's relevant but anyway......

From the evidence it doesn't look like Carneiro's primary motivation is money. For sure she wants something but there seems to be two other things she wants. One is fame of some kind and this is evidenced by these facts, all of which were going on before the incident itself occurred.

- positioning herself close to Mourinho for tv exposure.

- being in discussions about some kind of reality tv programme.

- posting pictures of herself and first team members on twitter and instagram.

The other one is surely a personal vendetta against Mourinho himself. She wants him to have to come to the hearing and she wants to make him face difficult questions.

So she wants EXPOSURE and she wants REVENGE, two powerful motives.

I don't believe for a minute she's interested in or furthering womens rights except in so far as she can use it to her advantage. I'd give no better than evens on whether if she wins this case, a book and tv interviews will follow.

It's a shame really because her actions will likely make it even less probable that clubs will appoint women to senior positions in their clubs. All that testosterone that naturally flies around in a male dominated sport will make it far too risky for them.

I hope that once the case is over she moves on and continues her medical career somewhere but I fear we may be subjected to her on our TV's and on the front cover of those same sort of magazines and newspapers that feature people like Peter Andre.

I hope I'm wrong.

The referee called for her. She was required by the rules of the game to go on as a result. Jose reacted badly out of frustration which I can perhaps understand if he didn't know that rule, but there is no excuse for him to not say sorry immediately afterward.

If Jose had any humility and common sense, he would have immediately released a statement saying, "I am sorry about comments I made about the medical staff. They were said out of frustration, and I didn't know that the referee had called for them. I have utmost respect for them and thank them for the care and concern they show toward our players."

I also have a feeling that the incident had been brewing for a long time, that Jose had, in her opinion, treated her unfairly or poorly for a while.

I thought the ref called them on because they were running up and down the touchline, gesturing to get his attention, then he saw Hazard was down and called them on. In which case Mourinho's frustration might be a bit more understandable.

It is possible I remember it wrongly though.

I suppose it will come out in the wash, should be an interesting few weeks.

My instinct is to believe that Mourinho is not a sexist, but then again my instincts are often way off !

I have said all along that no-one comes out of this looking very good and that includes Carneiro...the fact she said she'd go back to chelsea (although this is what club are claiming she said) for a significant pay rise plus compensation having already turned down £1.2m is pretty damning

I really don't believe he is sexist, but I can only second guess. His wife, his family, his life suggests he's a modern man. His wife is very able, very active in the charity sector, he seems to appreciate women. Who really knows, time will tell no doubt.

My view on this has not changed one bit. Mourinho was an idiot for doing what he did. The ref called the medical team on, the medical team was just doing their job. If Mourinho didn't think there was anything wrong with Hazard, then his problem should have been with Hazard, not the medical team.

As for what was claimed to have been said.........well, none of us on here can know what was said, we weren't there, we haven't seen or heard anything. All we would be doing is guessing. So none of us know if he shouted son of a whore out of frustration, or called Carneiro a daughter of a whore. We just don't know.

The problem is that the club is stuck in the middle of a feud between two people who aren't even employed by the club anymore.

I agree, but in this case it was unavoidable. We all knew the trial was approaching.

I think she'll win. Aside from the rejection of payouts, the fact is that Jose/the club demoted her for doing her job. There was no gross misconducted so I would say she will win constructively dismal.

Still not sure on the sexism claim. I don't believe Jose is sexist one bit but it's whether the court believe that. There isn't enough evidence I don't think for that.

Carneiro's barrister is a man utd season tkt holder !

Also, just found out something else that surprised me:

"Chelsea claim the 42-year-old demanded a pay rise from £285,000 to £400,000 — plus a ‘bonus scheme’ — to draw a line under the issue last August."

I had to laugh at the Daily Telegraph football section informing us that Caneiro turned up for the tribunal wearing a powder blue coat and a beige sleeveless dress !

I wonder if we'll get a run down on what the men are wearing, I'm guessing not.

What does her salary have anything to do with this incident. Nothing.

Not sure tbh.

Thought the fact was of interest though, not many people would walk away from a job paying £285,000 even if their "duties" got altered !

Surely if a chap made such a suggestion he'd be seen as manipulative? Controlling? Capitalising on the situation? All very odd.

What does her salary have anything to do with this incident. Nothing.

Her salary may not have anything to do with the incident, but the fact that she was offered a rise certainly does.

It's like this. Employee gets upset, threatens legal action.

Employer offers pay rise.

Employee refuses pay rise, opts for legal action.

Of course she is well within her rights to do so, but turning down a pay rise of such magnitude is bound to cast doubts on her motivation.

Note: I'm not attempting to pass judgement here - how could I without knowing the full facts of the case? No I'm merely making the point that Eva Carneiro is either extremely principled or extremely greedy. There is no middle ground.

The story suggests that she initially demanded the pay increase though, not the other way round

Then sort legal action

Then declined a settlement figure which was more than her initial request

^ agreed. We just don't have any knowledge of the background. Anyway it was totally needless and totally childish.

As someone here mentioned our image is being still smeared by two former employees.

Not that bothered about either of them.

Apologies, I've been rushing around like a blue arsed fly, and managed to misread mez's post.

The point remains, I think, that she's either highly principled or out extremely greedy. If the latter, then how can we possibly blame her, given that the modern game is populated by massively overpaid, overtly  money grabbing - and in the case of the higher echelons of the game - corrupt to the core.

Not sure tbh.

She got moved away from match day duty so if anything her duties got easier! She should've been happy!  :laugh2:
