Case settled confidential terms...

(puts popcorn back in cupboard)

I dare say those terms could be leaked, and if not the red tops at least will be sure to speculate.

jose isn't our 'problem' any more, but for me this story is more about the club.

men in positions of power frequently abuse those positions in relation to subordinate women in the work place up and down the country- for me it is a symptom of an unequal (historically and currently) society. that in itself is obviously an a terrible fact, but what concerns me more is that a corporate entity (in this case the club) opted to compound any mistakes jose made. for me that is the real concern. you can't account for individual racists, sexists, bullies, idiots etc, but we should all be able to expect that when something goes wrong a dispassionate board of directors running a multimillion pound international business should be able to address the issue quickly and more importantly fairly. the club did neither.

Thank goodness for that...everyone can move on now...feel a big weight has been lifted off the club's shoulders...it's been negative baggage that has weighed us down ever since last August...obviously paid Eva significantly more than £1.2m so she's made for life and kept her reputation as a doctor...just one more beating chelsea have suffered in last year

A total mess handled (unsurprisingly) shockingly badly by the club.. Made all the more frustrating as so much of it was avoidable, in that respect let us not forget that Bruce Buck is partner at one of the most high profile highest-grossing law firms in the world too.

Fair play to her, that statement reads as if she was basically telling them what to write.

And its now properly over as far as Mourinho and Chelsea are concerned. What a parting gift.

It really is time to move on once and for all. He isnt our problem any more.

What's the catch now? what kind of settlement being reached?

I take it she got the club made that statement, running onto the pitch to care for players is fulfilling both the rules of the game and her job's responsibility.. good for her..

Well, talking about bully, in this whole saga, the club is the one who's being bullied at the end.. damn jose, if only he didn't act like a jerk, we might not have suffered a turbulence season...

Chelsea and Mourinho case
:: Categorically deny any wrongdoing.
:: Carneiro was offered her job back on more than one occasion and was offered £1.2 million to settle her claim.
:: Her discrimination claim was to lift the statutory cap for constructive dismissal cases (£78,355), “in order to justify the claimant’s extravagant compensation claim”.
:: There were already concerns about her “commitment to developing the skills required to progress to the role of medical director”.
:: She would have lost her job several years earlier but for the direct intervention of Roman Abramovich’s right-hand woman, Marina Granovskaia.
:: Carneiro “was increasingly preoccupied with developing her profile and associating herself with the first team, in a way that Chelsea discouraged backroom employees from doing”, including signing autographs and posing for photographs with members of the public; publicly nominating a first-team player to take part of the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’; and seeking to position herself behind Mourinho during televised matches.
:: She secretly briefed against Chelsea to the media, in flagrant breach of the club’s communication policy and disciplinary procedure.
:: She refused to return to work unless certain demands were met, including: an increase in her basic salary of more than 40 per cent (to £400,000); a severance payment of one year’s salary, the benefit of a “structured, objective and robust” bonus scheme “to properly reward me for my contribution to the club’s success”; and a “substantial payment” in compensation

Chelsea Football Club is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Dr Carneiro which brings her employment tribunal proceedings against the club and Jose Mourinho to an end.

The club regrets the circumstances which led to Dr Carneiro leaving the club and apologises unreservedly to her and her family for the distress caused. We wish to place on record that in running onto the pitch Dr Carneiro was following both the rules of the game and fulfilling her responsibility to the players as a doctor, putting their safety first.

Dr Carneiro has always put the interests of the club's players first. Dr Carneiro is a highly competent and professional sports doctor. She was a valued member of the club’s medical team and we wish her every success in her future career.

Jose Mourinho also thanks Dr Carneiro for the excellent and dedicated support she provided as First Team Doctor and he wishes her a successful career.

within 24 hours.

I didn't think we'd manage to put out a defence this poor having sold david luiz, but fair play to the lads they managed to do it at the end of the day.

Our legal team couldn't even wrangle a "the sexism claims were unfounded" from her statement (lets not pretend any of that statement is written by the club)?

Looks like Mourinho threw us under the bus. Insisting on not backing down, making the thing go to court then, the day he has to testify, he demands to settle screwing the club over. He could have done that months ago.

Still, she'll never get another top flight job again so we'll never have to see or deal with her ever again. Hopefully we'll never hire another wannabe celebrity for our medical team. There's something wrong when most fans know the name of another clubs' doctors (even before this saga).

Aren't you folks bothered by the fact that Mourinho hasn't publicly apologized? Chelsea had to take all the blame, and Chelsea are the ones looking really silly with their U-turn of statements, and it's probably Chelsea who paid her all the dough.

I suppose we will never really know what happened (until one of the players or a member of the back room staff write a book)

Mourinho has got out of this pretty unscathed, he hasn't even had to publicly apologise, I almost get the impression that at the time of the incident, the club wanted to placate Mourinho at any cost.

Oh well as has  been stated he's Manu's problem now.

Not bothered as not in possession of enough information from all parties. Onwards.

Our legal team couldn't even wrangle a "the sexism claims were unfounded" from her statement (lets not pretend any of that statement is written by the club)?

Mourinho was never going to apologise, that's just not his way. I doubt if the board members at Chelsea wanted to see who was going to blink first, they wanted it settled and that's what happened. A bullet dodged by all parties with regard to revelations in court.

However the speculation about exactly what Mourinho had to hide, won't go away.

Like I said, I wouldn't be surprised if Man U told made settlement of this part of his contract. It was always going to be an unpleasant mud slinging exercise.

And you can bet the Chelsea hierarchy will take the blame, for not calling him to heel.

Not sure why Chelsea included Mourinho's apology in their statement, they should have made him make his own statement.

Thought the same, the man should be issuing his own public apology.

One sad chapter behind us. Why I hate these things is because adults behave like children. Sane, smart people. The club ended up hurting there no one else.

I'm very happy neither of the two work for us anymore. We can manage without them.

I dare say those terms could be leaked, and if not the red tops at least will be sure to speculate.

Spot on summary of the deeper issues at stake!  ::clap2::  ::clap2::  ::clap2::

...obviously paid Eva significantly more than £1.2m so she's made for life and kept her reputation as a doctor...just one more beating chelsea have suffered in last year

that amount wasn't my quantum takeaway at all and was probably much much less. My understanding is that the "open" offer of 1.2 was made some time ago (ie months) by the club & that the offer lapsed of its own accord. Of significance concerning that amount is that there is absolutely no way the Tribunal would (had she won) made an award of that amount to her. And so leading up to the hearing, the club and its lawyers must have felt rather comfortable in terms of its position regarding the ultimate outcome of the litigation whilst Carneiro & her team would have felt increasingly uncomfortable. And so it played out. In an act of desperation less than 2 weeks before the hearing, Carneiro and her team, no doubt realizing that the club's offer should have been accepted, filed new evidence from her in an attempt to bolster her claims (& most probably as an attempt to have the club renew its earlier offer and/or accept a late counter-offer). That was a critical mistake since the filing & reliance by her on this "new" (somewhat hyperbolic) evidence opened significant new doors to the club in respect to her cross-examination & indeed the club's lawyers made much of that fertile new ground in its opening submissions on the 1st day of the hearing. And of course, the other point of note as the hearing progressed was that the language expert testimony as to what was said - ie. was it son or daughter, seemed to me to be pretty open and shut that it was the former and/or that the Tribunal would find as much. And so, Carneiro & her team, in consequence of this & faced with the prospect of some very damaging cross-examination of her to follow, then...."blinked" ie. settled. In litigation in these circumstances the vernacular attached to such mid-trial settlements in the trade are the "coward's settlement" or "the desperate settlement". Rest assured - she ultimately took much much less than the 1.2 in order to avoid what would have been a disaster for her.

It seems as though the club were trying to placate Mourinho originally, while keeping Caneiro on side by offering her 1.2 million and a job. A balancing act that didn't work out well for anyone at Chelsea. Although at least now the parties involved have been spared the embarrassment of the court revelations.

I would still love to know what was in those texts though !
