Why is he on television?

 

Is it simply because of his looks?

 

Is it because he was a great player?

 

Ohh I know, his brother was pulling up trees over on Sky so the BBC, in their infinite wisdom, thought they'd get some of that Neville stardust.

 

He's an idiot of the highest order. He thinks if he talks at 100 miles an hour nobody will notice. 

 

People bang on about bias but that's irrelevant. I don't see any bias I just see an idiot.

He was brilliant for England at euro 2000...oh wait...

Not the most intelligent bloke in the world, but in my opinion not the most offensive commentator either. Definitely a 'Tim nice but dim' type; I heard a story that once he had a few guests round, went to offer them a cup of tea, but ultimately had to phone his wife to ask her how to use a kettle.

 

I remember he commentated on the Hull game and told a couple of self-effacing stories about the first time he played against Gaston Ramirez and got nutmegged five times, and also a story about when he used to babysit Alex Bruce when the latter was a child.

 

That said, to be honest the general standard of commentary in this country is so poor that it's hardly setting the bar high to say that he's 'not one of the most inoffensive', plus his understanding of the game seems thin to non-existent. I agree hat he's not especially biased, but definitely a bit thick. That said, there are others I'd prefer to see exiled from the commentary box; Lee Dixon, Andy Townsend, Craig Burley, etc.

I just hate how biased he is towards United, he would do well to see what his brother is doing on Sky.

He landed the job because he was the 18th best player in United's treble winning team.

He's better on Radio than on TV imo; I've no idea why. He does co-commentator work for Radio 5 and makes some good points. I agree that he's less good on TV.

He's just so.... Boring. 

 

Get a tap of him and Michael Owen having a chinwag and you'll never have trouble sleeping again.

NBC in America have Graeme Le Saux commentating on our games. I usually watch that.

Jeff Stelling should commentate everything.

The BBC are just scraping the barrel with the MOTD 'pundits'   this year.
