Davey Baby: "Stevie G - I adore him, I want to bear his children"

Sorry if it's already been posted but this on the CSG website hits the nail on the head IMO http://www.chelseasupportersgroup.net/2015/05/chelsea-terrace-talk-irish-examiner-article-by-trizia-111/

Personally thought the applause for Gerrard was ridiculous.

I don't agree with piece at all. It was a one off moment as he has been a great player for many years and is about to depart (in a nothing game where we were already champions. It wouldn't have happened in any other circumstance). Bobby Charlton was reserved a similar ovation at Stamford Bridge in 1973.

I certainly don't think you could call it sycophantic bum licking as like Gerrard said, he'd been slated all game. It was just a moment of "ok, rivalry aside, you've been a great player over the years". I don't see anything wrong with it.

I wonder if the press does realise that Lampard is about to play his last Premier League match soon. I mean, more league goals than Thierry Henry...

...should he have his eye on a coaching role.

Can you imagine being in the dressing room with him doing the team talk: "Listen! This does NOT f**king slip!"

I wonder if the press does realise that Lampard is about to play his last Premier League match soon. I mean, more league goals than Thierry Henry...

That is true actually. There has been virtually no coverage of that.

Apparently he's getting his own guard of honour in his last game...

What for exactly? Guiding Liverpool to 1 FA cup and 1 League cup in the last decade?

Choking at every major international tournament?

Lampard has achieved things Gerrard can only dream of, but Gerrard plays for Liverpool so that's all that matters apparently.

What a pile of sh*t and to be honest it highlights the difference between someone who understands sport and has played it and those who haven't.

What makes the best fights, the best contests and the best spectacles is having the best competition. We hate Gerrard not just for what he represents but because he's also a top competitor. That's what makes the victories sweeter and the abuse more vociferous. If he was just some scrub then no-one would care and he'd be easy to dismiss but he's been a very good player for a number of years.

That moment of applause may be cringeworthy for some but for men, grown men, it was a beautiful moment that exemplifies all the greatest elements of sport. The two fighters who can hate each other for months and try to destroy each other in the ring hugging at the end of a gruelling fight. The two number 8s who have battered their's and each other's bodies for 80 minutes, scratching, pummelling and tearing at one another buying each other a pint in the clubhouse after.

A temporary respite to pay a bit of respect and say thank you for making this rivalry just that bit more fiery. I don't know about you but some of the strongest memories, be they good or bad, over the last 10 years have featured Liverpool and included this man. The same goes for Fergie. Next time we play this lot it will be a bit less special because this man isn't on the pitch to despise, just like playing United was a bit less special because Fergie wasn't in the dugout.

Trizia there seems to be oblivious to a large part of what makes sport great. Pity.

Who exactly suggested and approved that if true?

Oh let's give a guard of honour in the final league game for a player who has never won the league.... What?

The likes of Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs who were far more deserving of that kind of honour bowed out of the game with a lot more grace and class than Gerrard has.

Carragher got one as well, as will JT when he retires.

It's cringe the love in for the Stevie Me.

He's done feck all domestically in the EPL, Mikel has more medals than him...I wonder if teams will give John a guard of honour when he moves on?

After all he's done more in the game that Stevie.

Without checking I'd hazard a guess John O'Shea has more medals than Mikel and he didn't get one I don't think.

One club men who are at the top of their game for a number of years are probably the exception rather than the rule. That's why they get these honours. Did people moan when Carragher got one?

It was odd more than anything else. Bit hypocritical, too. 5 seconds of applause after getting non-stop abuse throughout the game, and the mocking Demba Ba chant resumed 10 seconds later! I'd have much preferred him to walk off with that ringing in his ears.

Perhaps it was just another side effect of the relentless media hype of Gerrard over the past decade, people thought they were obliged to show some 'class', whatever that is. Yet I don't remember Giggs, Shearer, Henry or Bergkamp getting a round of applause on their last visit to the Bridge. Did Carragher? Then again, I don't recall their last visits to the Bridge even being pointed out. Maybe they were just too busy trying to win their team the match instead of being subbed off with 20 minutes to go.

Isn't it the Liverpool players giving Gerrard a guard of honour in his last home match? Are people seriously moaning about that?

I read it as being the other team doing it.
