Davey Baby: "Stevie G - I adore him, I want to bear his children"

Featured Replies

I find him rather dull and don't really care about him as a person, what really annoys me is the way the press laud him for being a one club man (death threats to his family, when his move to us looked on the cards, never mentioned)

The way he is somehow perceived as being "deserving" of a league title, why?

The nick name Stevie G, juvenile and annoying.

He is Scouse.

Having said that I hope our fans concentrate on singing our players praises, rather than singling out a rather insignificant oppo player on what will (hopefully) turn out to be a day of celebration.

My dislike of Gerrard has faded a little bit this season. I used to utterly loathe him, almost as much as any other player. Probably irrationally, but then there is very little about being a football fan that is particularly rational.

I think a lot of it for me was based on the irritation that he got so many plaudits despite being such an obviously flawed player. All the nonense about him deserving a Premier League title, all the nonsense about him being better than Lampard, and the totally undeserved comparisons with Pirlo. It probably didn't help that he played for Liverpool...

After last season, when we ruined his final title bid (with the slip as the icing on the cake), and especially now that Lampard has left, it feels kind of like we've won, that ultimately we've been proven right about him. Now that he is generally and correctly regarded as a massive joke who is a huge liability to his team, the dislike has started to fade. Not to the extent that I feel sorry for him or anything, he's just become a bit irrelevant.

That said, I see no ethical reason that we should deny ourselves one final point and laugh. But maybe some pitying applause might be even more insulting? "There there son, you tried your best, but you're not really worth our ire any more..."

That's not Gerrard's fault though is it? Blame the press for that.

Admittedly, it was frustrating that he used to recieve all the plaudits but that's not his fault that the media are selective.

Fair points but then I remembered "We don't let this f*cking slip, we go again"

It was the "we go again" that really made me  feel slightly nauseous. The shameless playing to the Sky Camera, we're all in this together etc, when we all know it was really all about him. Until he slipped on his arse and suddenly became camera shy.

His ineptitude against Demba Ba of all people made last years Birthday, so very special to me...Thank you StevieG, scouse legend and all round top top fella. You also ruined John Aldridge's 2014, and for that I salute you.

What an ungrateful bunch, after all Stevie has done for us over the years.

Getting himself sent off in the 4th place decider in 2003.

Deliberately torpedoing his move to us so we could sign Essien instead.

Equaliser in the League Cup final.

Through ball for Drogba in the Double season.

His timely slip to let in Ba last season.

He's made an invaluable contribution to this club and I hope he gets the reception he deserves.

Whilst it's clear why he's got stick over the years, he does seem a rather broken man. Noticed it in the league cup 2nd leg and with each appearance since he's seemed more and more lost.

He's had the worst possible ending to his Liverpool career and if he actually plays against us then I'd be quite impressed. Will that stop me singing the song? Probably not, but I reckon once he's no longer representing that mob then he might seem a bit more palatable much like Carragher does.

Until then though, naaah.

I don't hate Stevie G but if (in some bonkers parallel universe) LFC won the league at Scousefield, playing CFC, the abuse that'd come CFC's way would be shocking.

LFC would then commission a huge bronze statue of Stevie walking through the guard of honour and the clip would be played on tv gazillions of times.

I think we should shower him with kindness and celebrate his career.  Perhaps a song thanking him for all the assists and maybe a banner saying Thank You Stevie, with an image to really capture his contributions to our efforts.  If we are lucky enough to have an honour guard that game, perhaps the club could have a little ceremony for Stevie before it.  Drogba could even give him a memento for that important assist that helped us to a title.Maybe a "I wasn't part of the team, but I helped the dream. Chelsea 2009/2010 BPL Champions" plaque or something.  Ba could send a message via satellite video.

Why abuse him when we can remember and celebrate some of his most influential moments in a Liverpool shirt?

not forgetting the pass back for gudjohnson to latch onto in the 4-0 win in 2000

The only thing I want from that game (other than a win, of course), is for us to beat Palace on Sunday, so Stevie can line up with the rest of them and pay tribute to the Champions.
