Super Frank's Send Off

Most people I know, me included would put Zola and JT as our top two legends anyway. Just because Lampard is third doesn't mean his legacy is tainted in anyway. People who've bitched about him going to City won't give a crap in a few years time, it will be forgotten history.

I agree, in a few years time it will be forgotten history. Unfortunately, it still stings a bit at the moment. He's sort of whimpered out of the Premier League. He'll regret his City move in time.

I'm glad he didn't take them to the title though

Although Lampard annoyed me with his move to City, he is still a legend of the club and easily in the top 3 all time Chelsea greats. He deserves just as much praise as Gerrard is getting, more actually seeing as he has won a lot more.

I believe he's ahead of Stevie me in just about every stat going..  Although you wouldn't have thought it with the current SG lovefest.

It's really beginning to annoy me now, but i'm remaining calm......    AArggghhhhhhhhh !

If Lamps had stayed or announced his attention to leave last January then he may have got similar treatment, although not quite the same. Unfortunately his departure is a bit of a mess. He's not leaving the club he's most closely associated with nor is he Mr Chelsea.

Maybe when JT retires he'll get a similar send off.

Ha ha do you honestly think jt would get this much attention its a huge maybe more of a huge no I reckon

He almost certainly won't because of his past and the way we're viewed differently from Liverpool, but he has rehabilitated himself slightly over the last couple of years. His fwa 3rd place award is recognition of that.

I think it'll be a much better send off than Lamps has received though.

Agree that it's because he didnt make a big thing of leaving etc but he still wouldnt have got the send off Gerrard is getting, even at the POTY awards when they were both introduced together iit was a case of Gerrard who has won this that and the other for Liverpool and Frank who is Chelsea's top goal scorer, it was Frank himself who made a point of listing what he'd won, they didn't do it - probably so they didn't make him look like he'd achieved more than Gerrard.

I don't think anyone guessed that he would end up at City and he was never going to be the difference in the City team this season. On his legacy, I disagree with you, I don't think its tainted at all, his short spell at City was never going to be remembered in the long run, people will only look back on him as a Chelsea legend. I've never been surprised that Gerrard has been getting more publicity, just disappointed and just because Liverpool are the media darlings, it doesn't mean that we should accept Lampard recieving little to no send off.

Not really another club though is it, we all know it's a retirement home

Erm, it definitely is, just look at the Lampard thread. He's managed to drop down from being our 'best player ever' to now in the 'top 3' (look below)

If City had won the league because of Lampard this season I'm sure your reaction would be very different.

I hate Gerrard more than anyone, but to be suprised at Gerrard getting more publicity than Lampard is silly, Liverpool are media darlings.

Not sure why Lampard didn't get more coverage last season though, I guess people knew he'd end up at City...

Agreed with above, he could of had better PR promotion, which was his one failing.

it was forgotten as soon as the goals dried up, some of the abuse aimed at him was massively over the top and unnecessary.

Bearing in mind that a fair number on this forum were happy for him to leave anyway. The amount of abuse he was getting coincided with him scoring a few goals as City closed the gap on us. Then it fizzled out along with City's title challenge.

Lampard's passing always gets overlooked. He wasn't world class but when I think back to the best passes I've seen from the blues over the last decade quite a few are Lamps's! Another grating thing is that because he's English and he wasn't an easy on the eye dribbler his game was often reduced to "oh he's basically a second forward protected by other so he can run into the box". If he was Spanish it would be called world class movement and ball striking technique. And it's not like he had 2 DM's to do all the midfield work for him, a huge part of his Chelsea career was being a midfielder in the 433 which we favored for yonks, and he was in no way a midfield passenger.

Easy to say the reaction to Lampard at City was ridiculous now, think back to how you felt when he equalised against us.....

I didn't care who scored, more annoyed at the fact we had let them back in to the game.

Watching the send off that the scousers got to give Gerrard does make me incredibly frustrated that Lamps didn't get the chance to do something similar. Can't fault the guy for wanting to continue playing at the top level but he deserved a proper farewell from the supporters. Maybe in the future but it won't be what it should've been.

Ironically it was Gerrards 'lack of loyalty' that meant he got to do this - he decided he was leaving at the end of the season months ago.

Lamps on the other hand wanted to stay here, left it up to the club to decide his fate - and rightly so they did this after the season had ended.

If he had in fact gone to NY, I think he would have come back for a half time send off in one of our games this season. As it happened, he ended up at City, so that ended any chances of that happening.

He might be back...he might not now.

This is a very good point. It would have been easy and ideal for him to come back for a match and get the goodbye he deserved..

But i doubt it will happen now for a while, the City move has definitely had some effect, and left a sour taste (rightly or wrongly) at Chelsea.

MOTD2 doing a Lampard v Gerrard debate:

first category: Who is the better Goalscorer

They show a few clips of Gerrard screamers (like the goal against West Ham)

Then they show a few Lampard tap-ins, failing to show any of his screamers (they say he has a knack of getting in the right position to score tap ins)

The pundits (Phil Nev and Keown) then conclude that Gerrard (184 Liverpool goals) is a better goalscorer than the Premier League's highest ever goalscoring midfielder  Lampard (258 Chelsea goals)

The level of media bias is funny at times. In all honesty, what was Gerrard better at? Maybe assists slightly, that's it and even that is very close.

Well although a good player, Gerrard's image is helped by the cult of Liverpool. Obviously the Liverpool loving media lap it up so Lampard will never win that discussion.

At the end of the day all I can say for definite is that Lampard was the better AM and Gerrard was a better box-to-box player. I'd still take peak Ballack and Essien over him though!

One thing Gerrard will never have is the PL title.

One thing Lamps will never have is a song about him slipping on his arse and giving it to Demba Ba.

Lamps wins.

the three categories they stated were : goalscoring, passing and leadership and they all said Gerrard was winner in all 3 areas

They couldn't judge who was the better leader properly, unless they actually played with both of them, so that just proves how stupid they are haha.
