Posted June 9, 20159 yr So by now we probably all know that Chelsea are said to be looking to sign Falcao from Monaco either on a year loan or possibly on a permanent deal said to be worth anything from £18m up to £35m. In the past week we have tentatively been linked with a deal for Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain, said to also be a target for Arsenal for a fee of £30m thrown around a lot. Higuain was signed by Benetiz and following the new Real Madrid manager's failure to qualify for the Champions League next season you can only assume Higuain is now eyeing the exit or Napoli are looking to recoup some of their outlay. Mourinho coached Higuain at Real Madrid so is more than familiar with player. At this point in time it's not clear if there is any foundation to this rumour with more and more news outlets reporting this or if they are all just jumping on the same silly season bandwagon and desperately filling column inches now there is no football to report on. There's growing rumours of Remy possibly looking to leave Chelsea in search of regular first team football and so there is a very small possibility of us being in the market for not one but two strikers this summer... Costa, Falcao and Higuain anyone?
June 9, 20159 yr Can't see Higuain settling for the bench when he can go to teams like Arsenal and be a first pick.
June 9, 20159 yr Costa will always be my first choice. Falcao will accept the terms for being a 2nd or 3rd choice, but I'm not sure about Higuain. Paying 30m for someone who isn't going to play in the starting XI is unnecessary. He's 27 and this is the period when players show their best, he won't accept to be 2nd/3rd choice.
June 9, 20159 yr He's a brilliant striker and I'd love to see him at Chelsea - but I share the concerns about where he would fit in behind Costa unless we change our shape to accomodate him.
June 9, 20159 yr Author What if we're looking to move away from the 4-2-3-1 system that's been favoured for the last few years and Jose is looking to adopt a system that has 2 strikers?
June 9, 20159 yr yes, all of these striker names that has been tied to us all are 1st team material , maybe except for falcao mourinho sure is not going to spend 25mil+ for a 2nd or 3rd striker while we have remy, not surprised if we change formation with 2 strikers up front next season
June 9, 20159 yr Author mourinho sure is not going to spend 25mil+ for a 2nd or 3rd striker while we have remy Well he spent £16m on a reserve left back when we already had Bertrand so I'm not ruling anything out.
June 9, 20159 yr Wasn't known as a big game player at Madrid, one of their fans did the stats and his record against the Top 10 teams in Spain was poor. Memory might be hazy here but I think he also has a pretty poor record in Europe too. From what I've seen, I seem to recall him needing quite a few chances before he actually puts it away and going by reports from his time at Napoli, he's been pretty poor. So yeah, not for me mate. Would rather Jackson Martinez, he's basically a skillful version of Costa and with better hold up play.
June 9, 20159 yr Can't see Higuain settling for the bench when he can go to teams like Arsenal and be a first pick. Perfect player for Arsenal, bottles it in the big games when there's pressure. Edited June 9, 20159 yr by Remodez
June 9, 20159 yr I think higuain played a bit on the right when he first came on the scene, it would an expensive upgrade on remy. I do like him as a player though, and although as Remodez points out, he may not be a big game player, he still has an excellent goalscoring record where ever he has played. 1 in 2 is fantastic, and I think he would do well here. If he manages to score crucial goals against to the bottom 14 teams in the league, he will be a great asset. I don't think costa/higuain/falcao is a viable combination though unless we change formation more often than we have in the past.
June 9, 20159 yr Why are we throwing Remy out with the bath water? Is he widely considered to not be wanted here anymore?
June 9, 20159 yr There's talk that some are interested in him that's all Luca. I think some people are of the opinion that he might want to leave if the right team wants him.
June 9, 20159 yr I think remi has proved he gets the job done, our style of play and our midfield really just require a consistent finisher, where Costa excels is his runs that open up space, which works well as a lone striker, if we spent 30 mil on a striker though I'd want to see him on the pitch with Costa, I think when Chelsea played some of our best football in the past we utilized 2 strikers
June 9, 20159 yr didn't Mourinho call Higuain the laziest player ever during to manage? Or am I imagining this?
June 9, 20159 yr Those people who think Higuian is a brilliant striker... I feel for them. Remy is better than him.
June 9, 20159 yr didn't Mourinho call Higuain the laziest player ever during to manage? Or am I imagining this? It was a misquote
June 10, 20159 yr Those people who think Higuian is a brilliant striker... I feel for them. Remy is better than him. Is he ? how can't see it myself ? would much rather have Higuian who I always thought was a quality player in the Crespo mould
June 10, 20159 yr Higuain really isn't that special and would be incredibly expensive. I'd keep Remy over him all day.
June 10, 20159 yr not sure I follow why Remy is better ? Higuain's worst return in league goals over the last 7 seasons is 10 and in that season he only started 17 games , he is a minimum 20 goals a year player . I would be worried if he ended up at Le Arse or even worse Liverscum
June 10, 20159 yr Well if Remy is being allowed to leave then these rumours of Higuain add up. Sounds like a lot of money though when for another 10m or so we could trigger Griezmann’s release clause.
June 10, 20159 yr Scrub that. Higuain now looks like he's going to Man United. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/447262/Gonzalo-Higuain-Manchester-United-transfer-news
