July 21, 201510 yr I thought saying £70mil is a bargain was a clearly a joke. Says it all really. It's absolutely mad, none more so than the rumoured £34mil for Stones who is little more than a decent centre back at the moment. If the TV deals keep getting bigger so will the transfer fees.

Yeah the problem with the likes of STones and Sterling are they're English so it inflates their prices as top clubs look to secure homegrown players for their quota. Supply and demand and all that causes inflated prices.

Supply and demand and all that causes inflated prices. Yeah exactly, and it puts the likes of Everton in an incredibly strong position. We've sent Kalas back out on loan again. Sure, he's not as good as Stones but I assume he would qualify as homegrown and neither would be likely to play much this season anyway. I do think Stones would be a good buy regardless of the price though. It's crazy money but we're in a position where £30million isn't a big issue, especially considering the lack of signings this year and the extra TV money. If José really wants him then it's probably going to happen one way or another.

July 21, 201510 yr Cambiasso just announced on Facebook that he's not renewing his contract at Leicester. Now I feel sad.
July 21, 201510 yr I would like to announce that I have decided not to renew my contract with Leicester City.I have taken this decision only 24 hours after receiving the proposal from Leicester because I want to give the club as much time as possible to find an alternative.I would like to thanks all the fans who last season made me feel proud to be part of a club with an unforgettable spirit and energy. And a very special thanks to all my team mates, staff and every people of the club, with whom I have lived one of the most important years of my career, crowned with the remaining EPL status. Many thanks to everyone, keeping you all for ever in my heart. Leicester City Football Club I am actually genuinely upset about this, I even briefly met him once in the King Power car park and told him he was a legend. Apparently before the West Ham game (which is when Leicester began their recovery) Cambiasso sat down and wrote up a detailed strategy for the final run of games which he submitted to Nigel Pearson. Pearson, for once feeling humble, actually took his tactics on board and they won 7 out of their last 9. They had won 2 out of their previous 24 league games. The man is a f**king legend and will be sorely missed.

July 21, 201510 yr I thought you Utd fans thought he was useless? There was some moaning about him a year or two ago. Don't get me wrong, we were rubbish in the window before Moyes came in (paying £4m over the buyout clause of Fellaini), but that was not only Ed's fault. Since Van Gaal has come in, he has been class. Even managed to help us make a profit on Buttner. We don't really know what goes on behind the scenes, but from what we can see, Ed Woodward is as much of a transfer muppet as the fans are. I like that.
July 21, 201510 yr Muller to Man Utd would be massive, and given the other additions to their midfield (Bastian knows Muller too) I think that would tip them towards being favourite for the title. If they sign Pedro too, i'll be amazed at their squad - and suggest that we maybe look at some of their "surplus" players. Just wonder how the medai would paint their success next year should they sign all these players? Historical Manchester United back where they belong....or, Man Utd bankroll way to title. Funny how, when we do it, we're buying the league. Don't think anyone thinks you bought the league last year at all. In the last few years of Fergie and pretty much since Ronaldo left we have underinvested. We either bought short term (RVP) or we bought players below the top tier (replacing Ronaldo with Valencia, Owen, etc.) We relied on Fergie's brilliance to win us trophies. So in a way, we are having to make up for it now. I'm not justifying us spending millions or pretending that we are some holier than thou club at all, just that we need to invest to compete with the top teams in Europe, considering our starting point. We are no 'better' than and anyone else and no matter how good Van Gaal may be, he is no Fergie. I think United's spending has been decent personally. They've targeted areas that they feel need improvement and haven't concerned themselves with offloading people for profit. Nani was surplus to requirements and so he was shipped off for less than £5m. Same goes for RVP, quality player but gone without a second thought. Defence was clearly an issue so they've got rid of Rafael despite his being at the club since he was a teenager and Van Gaal is being allowed to mold the squad to his liking rather than feeding on the scraps from Fergies last term. I don't think Herrera lived up to expectations and I don't think he was a LVG signing as he was linked to the club when Moyes was there and so they've wasted no time in bringing in two new midfielders. Basically the club are putting their money where their mouth is where the LVG appointment is concerned, lessons were learned the hard way with the Moyes appointment. It's a ruthless overhaul, it's bold and brave and it could blow up in their face because it's a huge expectation on so many new players settling in quickly. Herrera was actually, in my opinion, our best outfield player and of all of the midfielders he is the one who I imagine will play the most by the end of the season. If anything he was better than anyone expected and the fans were very angry when he was benched for a while by Van Gaal. Our best midfield next season will be a combination of Schneiderlin - Schweiny - Herrera. Carrick is still great, but he'll be interchanging with Schweinsteiger.
July 22, 201510 yr I have always admired United through gritted teeth but van Gaal has really wasted little time in ripping the heart out of the club in my opinion. He has released Cleverley and Fletcher and sold Welbeck with rumours of Evans also heading for the exit, all genuine youth products. This is fresh on the back of the likes of Giggs, Evra, Vidic and Ferdinand all leaving the club and while Giggs is the only genuine product of those the others had all been at United long enough to contain "United DNA". Having spent years looking down their noses at (well everybody really but in particular) ourselves and City, it has taken less than two seasons of relative failure for them to completely abandon what they claimed both defined and distinguished them as a club. They are now nothing more than a collection of bought players, which for years they would have had you believe was something to be sniggered at and ashamed of. When Chelsea and United name their strongest sides this coming season, there will be more (1) youth products in Chelsea's side than there will in United's!!! Great points made mate, think this proves that you never ever know what will happen next in football and more specifically the premier league, it's basically like watching a soap opera. Is the beauty game not packed full of themes of irony, redemption and iconic downfalls?
July 22, 201510 yr Anyone see this? Leeds fans involved in a brawl with Eintracht fans after pre-season "friendly". Some great pics, looks brutal! To be fair to the Leeds hooligans it mostly looks like the Austrian fans who caused most of the trouble. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3170079/Leeds-United-supporters-clash-Eintracht-Frankfurt-fans-ugly-scenes-following-pre-season-friendly-Austria.html Edited July 22, 201510 yr by Blueblur

When Chelsea and United name their strongest sides this coming season, there will be more (1) youth products in Chelsea's side than there will in United's!!! Cleverley - Lets be honest here, if we were facing you and you saw his name in the starting eleven... you would raise your fist and say "YESSS!!!" He simply wasn't good enough Welbeck - I loved his work rate, his passion... out of 10 things he made 9 of them perfect... it was that last pass, the shot, the whatever. His final product was never good. He was a local lad and I was a bit sad to see him go, but what are you supposed to do when one simply aint good enough? Fletcher - Age and those stomach-problems, what's more to say? Evans - Once more, simply not good enough. To be honest, I've never really rated him... Giggs, Evra, Ferdinand and Vidic... well they weren't exactly 23 and perhaps Evra and Vidic could've given us one or in best case two more seasons. But playing under Moyes can't have been that exciting... I hear and totally understand you when you say "DNA" and in a perfect world we could've kept it running. But when the youth players or the local/loyal ones just ain good enough, then what the hell are you supposed to do?

Agreed with Bogga, if players like Cleverley, Fletcher, Welbeck and Evans are the heart of our team then we have a serious problem. Keeping Giggs as an Assistant Manager alone is a clear indication that we do want to keep the United identity, we've got some nice youth coming along with the likes of Pereira, Wilson, Fosu-Mensah, Gribbin, Gomes etc. who are certainly a lot more promising, but sure, if we've got players surplus to requirements then by all means we should get rid of them rather than hold onto their wages. Players removed by Van Gaal: Bebe Anderson Darren Fletcher Tom Cleverley Danny Welbeck Kagawa Wilfried Zaha Shinji Buttner Tom Lawrence Van Persie Ben Amos Vermijl Patrice Evra Nani Michael Keane Tom Thorpe Jonny Evans? I honestly wouldn't take any one of these players back except Evra had we known Luke Shaw was going to be injured so much. I feel we've done a good job trimming the fat from our team.
