January 18, 201610 yr It is pretty ridiculous we paid so much money for him, yet he hasnt been given a real chance. Jay Da Silva is too young, small etc etc. United played a really raw and young full back last night!!! I dont know much of Da Silva but how bad can he be compared to our current fullback situation
January 18, 201610 yr Baba shouldn't be anywhere near the Chelsea team, who ever signed him needs their eyes tested.
January 18, 201610 yr I have seen him play and he's no better than one of our youth team players. 20 million quid wasted. Sam corne of welling untied is a better player than baba.
January 18, 201610 yr Baba shouldn't be anywhere near the Chelsea team, who ever signed him needs their eyes tested. Id say hes been better than Bertrand was at that age
January 18, 201610 yr Am sorry to say that you gotta admit that baba is not worth 20 million pounds more than Bertrand ! I studied baba very closely at the Sunderland match and couldn't even make a tackle and gust of wind would blow him down. He's not suited to the premier league. He's a similar type of wasted money same as Saha and Cuadrado.
January 18, 201610 yr “The story behind Rahman does raise a few alarm bells about who is actually spending Chelsea's money right now” http://www.eurosport.co.uk/football/premier-league/2015-2016/striker-crisis-ahead-of-arsenal-trip-shows-up-chelsea-s-muddled-thinking_sto5064515/story.shtml
January 18, 201610 yr buying relatively unknown - one season wonder type players for 20 million is a farking big mistake and our club is not being run properly financially speaking. Which is a worry for the future. We should concentrate more on developing our own youth players and giving them a proper chance in the 1st team, instead of paying out 20 million for a Baba, Saha, Cuadrado type player who is not any better than our own youth players. It's farking rediculous waste of cfc money and also the time and energy expended by the person who ever it is that's doing this nonsense in our club. I don't mind having a side business with say 10 or 15 of our players out on loan, but having more than 30 players out on loan is farking ridiculous.
January 19, 201610 yr Seriously? “Augsburg are interested in re-signing Abdul Baba Rahman from Chelsea, according to reports.” http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/636052/Chelsea-Abdul-Baba-Rahman-Augsburg-Loan-Transfer-News-21m
January 19, 201610 yr This was the weirdest transfer window we've ever had. Michael Hector, Papy and now this. Was Emenalo just pulling random names out of the FIFA Manager database?

Oh well, it's nailed on then... [emoji849] I call bullsh*t on this.
January 19, 201610 yr Am sorry to say that you gotta admit that baba is not worth 20 million pounds more than Bertrand ! He didn't say that though, he said that Rahman was worth more at his age than Bertrand, which is probably true. I don't think Rahman is a waste of money, i think we wasting the chance to make him worth the money spent. I didn't expect him to be brilliant this season, but i expected him to be getting some game time. The problem with us this season is that we have no trust in any of our players outside of the main 11. No matter how bad the first 11 are, they will never lose their spot for a squad player for more than a few games at most. I personally don't think Rahman could be any worse than Ivanovic, if Rahman was given the game time, he could have grown into the role. How is he supposed to know what to work on to improve in this league if he isn't getting any games to play in ? I personally don't think there is a squad in the league that handles their squad players as badly as we do.

I personally don't think there is a squad in the league that handles their squad players as badly as we do. Yup. The entire reason we bought him, or any young player, is so they can take over for the older players and those who aren't performing. This is exactly what has happened and Baba has only played a handful of games. I don't understand it. Not one bit. I'm beginning to think this is more and more the fault of the managers refusing to drop the established players than the younger players not being good enough.
January 19, 201610 yr All of us are completely pissed off with our club's transfer in / loan out policy, lack of proper squad rotation, and general lack of interest in in giving 1st team opportunities to our youth players. Our youth team keep winning the F A youth cup and other cups, what more can they do ? The powerful top people that run our club are completely out of touch with us fans. There are some people in the Academy of our club who are fully aware of our opinions, and agree with us, but sadly they are too scared to speak up to the powers that be, as they don't wanna loose their jobs. Aka .....Ray Wilkins when he was Carlo's assistant, he spoke up and got fired!
January 19, 201610 yr in slight mitigation of the fee, £21m would be the absolute top amount paid. and if that is contigent on success or appearances, we won't have to worry.
January 19, 201610 yr Whilst Baba has been ok going forward and does deliver a decent cross, his defensive duties to be honest have been woeful. He appears to struggle with positioning and his failure to hold a defensive line could arguably be more of a liability than Ivan getting beat time and again as the latter can be covered for easier. Surprised he hasn't been given a role similar to what Bertrand had in the Champions League Final late in games.
January 19, 201610 yr Impossible to tell if waste of money or not if we never play him If we never play him then he's a waste of money by definition.

With the team struggling to find there feet am not sure Guss will risk him in the defense as it will give Terry more work to do.

More than most positions being a full-back is about working with both the player in front of you and the ones next to you. If you never play with them then you can't develop that understanding. Zouma wasn't that gees in his first few appearances but now he looks like he knows where he is expected to be and what to do so he is looking more and more like the player we were always told he could be. Rahman needs that chance. Would playing him against West Brom seriously have made us that much worse? Or is there a chance that his crossing could have helped? £21m is a lot of money but that's how the game is at the moment. When Martial is £50m+ and Stones is £40m+ then you know you are going to pay inflated prices.

Good defensive tactics are borne on the training pitch not in a game. A defensive line is upmost to achieving a good defence otherwise we are vulnerable all across the pitch. His performances so far haven't been good when given the chance, which is why he hasn't broken into the first team.

"No plan survives contact with the enemy" (to paraphrase Helmuth von Moltke the Elder). He needs games to see how people will react and for them to build up a relationship and trust on the pitch. Terry wasn't a superstar from day one. It takes time and games. People like you who want him to be Cole, Carlos or Maldini straight away are the reason youth never get a chance at the Bridge.... January 20, 201610 yr Yes. Training and a match are two very different things. "No plan survives contact with the enemy" (to paraphrase Helmuth von Moltke the Elder). He needs games to see how people will react and for them to build up a relationship and trust on the pitch. Terry wasn't a superstar from day one. It takes time and games. I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this point. Defensive lines are quite definitely borne on the training ground. Baba's positioning has been a bit wayward to say the least in the games he has played so far. He may or may not achieve this in the future as he is young. We are though in a position were we can't afford to take risks now, the fact that he has been unable to shift Ivan from the starting eleven via a reshuffle of Dave speaks volumes into how much he has impressed the coaching staff. People like you who want him to be Cole, Carlos or Maldini straight away are the reason youth never get a chance at the Bridge.... [emoji849] People like me? Really? I'm all in favour in giving young players a chance and have said so many times on here, they though have to earn the right to play in the first team. Baba is young, new to this country. He may or may not fulfill the potential someone saw in him at 20m though he should be a little nearer the finished article than he has shown so far.
January 20, 201610 yr I can't even remember the last game he played, it's been that long. From my vague memory, he wasn't that bad, making the sort of errors you expect from a 21 year old, but offers more in attack. Let's face it, he could not be any worse than Ivanovic's work over all. We are shooing ourself in the foot with him.
January 22, 201610 yr Just a quote from LVG which highlights the general dearth of fullbacks on the market: "I need full-backs. We are looking for a level but clubs don't want to sell. It is difficult. You think it is so easy." There are three options: - Give Baba a real chance and let him play a few games to have a run; - Spend 30+ mln on a tested left back, because they won't be coming any cheaper; - Buy an untested youth player which our scouts claim has superb potential and play him. Only option 1 seems logically sensible. Because face it: We ain't making the the Champions League unless we win it and we might as well play the youth so we know our REAL needs for next season.
