October 18, 201510 yr As ever they will disappear for a while, same as they do when a player thats often slagged of has a good game and they cant bring themselves to give them even an ounce of credit. Found them in the Hazard thread
October 18, 201510 yr no not at all, have been supporting the blues since the mid 70's everyone is entitled to an opinion ive just become sick and tired of it. you may be happy watching us play as bad as i can ever remember but im not something has gone seriously wrong over the summer. last weekend when we beat the bummers i thought we had turned a corner it wasnt great but at least we played the ball quicker and it was good to watch but lets face it watching chelsea play football over the last few months is like watching paint dry.Since the mid-seventies? Chelsea were never prone to winning back then! You should be used to this kind of thing...
October 20, 201510 yr I love jose and was delighted to have him back, but he's been back nearly 2 and a half years and if I'm honest, we have been pretty poor to watch bar the first 4 months of last season. I think I would prefer us to play with 2 solid defensive midfielders that can cover and let us the attacking players attack. I think we would have been a better team with a midfield of Matic (another dm) Kdb mata hazard Now we seem to be stuck in between styles, if Mourinho is truly here for the long term, we need to start signing players that fit into his philosophy. Get in more players that are suited to play on the counter, play deep and hit teams on the break. High pressing and possesion football isn't mourinho's game, and I think it's one of the reasons for our troubles at the moment.

If 'oscar is my no10, not mata' is now benched (so who's the new no10?), if doctors, matic, terry, hazard, RLC have got an earful publicly and the manager hasn't even said anything about he himself improving but say things like ' I have won 22 trophies in 15yrs, I'm entitled to a bad patch so don't criticize me' or 'I laid foundation for madrid winning la decima'. Must it be about him? Team's in a bad patch, stay away from those fake weather friends called the media and let our football talk. You don't have to make noise to make news, let the news make the noise.

Mourinho is one of the world's best, I just think he has assembled a squad that doesn't play to his strength's, and when we struggle he reverts to type, and this season we haven't got an outstanding defence to see us through, which is down to decline more than anything. It begs the question was Mourinho the right appointment at the time given the strengths of the players we had in the squad? Last season was a fantastic achievement, but it was a real grind in the second half of the season, and I think the warning signs were there. The next 3 games are massive, west ham away, liverpool at home, and stoke away. I think anything less than 7 points, and we will be in real trouble in terms of top 4, and mourinho's job will be in the balance.
October 20, 201510 yr Christ almighty, shut up whinging for the love of God. We get it, you don't like him. Don't know why I'm bothering on this. Ok, I don't like him and I criticize him but you like him, you prove me wrong. Not saying 'shut up' like you're superior to me. Last time I checked everyone has a right to speak his/her mind. Isn't that why you side with Jose against the FA? Edited October 20, 201510 yr by lesblues
October 20, 201510 yr , I just think he has assembled a squad that doesn't play to his strength's The question is, how much of this current squad did he personally pick? There seems to have been a shift in transfer policy in recent years and I would assume he had to agree on that set up as part of his return. That said were the likes of Cuadrado, Salah, Baba and Djilobodji his signings or club signings based on areas that were identified as weaknesses? I just struggle to believe that Jose wouldn't have used Baba more up to this point if he had been a player he had identified and more faith in. You've got the likes of Zouma, Courtois, Traore and Kenedy who were definitely club signings and obviously Zouma and Courtois have been a big success. But it does raise the question after three years, with this approach to transfers has it left us with a squad that lacks an overall identity and sometimes feels a collections of individuals rather than a collective unit assembled to play in a specific way.
October 20, 201510 yr Has he ever really built a squad though? He made a few additions to us first time around, when we already had the core there. Made a few additions at Inter. Didn't really need to do much at Real with Ronaldo winning every game. Now he's trying to build a team, and he's getting rid of lots of creative players and signing ones who run around a lot. Is it any wonder we struggle to create chances or play decent football?

I think any player bought for 1st team has had mourinho's blessing. The likes of zouma and kenedy I don't think Mourinho would have had much say in, because he wouldn't have been expected to be working with them. I do think the squad lack identity, and I think it is down to tactics as well as personnel. Mourinho's biggest downfall and his biggest strength is setting teams up depending on the opponent. Sometimes it's better to let other teams worry about what we are going to do, rather than vice versa. With squad Mourinho inherited, i'd say we were 2/3 players short of having an unbelievable team. 2 midfielders and a striker. Now I'd say we 3/4 players off, a centre back, full back, centre midfielder, and another consistent match winning attacking player. Mata was that player, kdb has turned into that player, and I don't think the replacements have that star quality.

Is it any wonder we struggle to create chances or play decent football? That's a terrible rewriting of history, by all means don't like him but he deserves credit where its due. He made a few additions, which significantly strengthened us. He also instilled a winning mentality into the existing core, so much so that it continued to get us trophy wins even after he left. He made a few additions at inter, a club that had failed in Europe for many years, he took them to the CL win. which they hadn't been even close to for a long time. The Real thing is just ridiculous, Barcelona were comfortably the best team in that league, and he made a 10 point swing, with over a 100 goals. If it was just down to Ronaldo why did they not win it previously or since.

Couple of well made points here which sum up exactly why I want Mourinho here long-term but at the same time I don't! I do, because he is a serial winner and I hate the idea of him ending up at one of our PL rivals and doing just that. But I still have this nagging feeling that perhaps he isn't the right man to build a dynasty here at CFC. I want him to prove me wrong, but I don't like how he will ALWAYS favour physicality over flair. I don't like his obsession with needing so many players of a certain height and how players like Mata & KDB were let go when we would have a much better looking squad now if we still had them. It's like the Joe Cole argument, folk will say how he made Joey a much better all-round player - others will argue that Joey could have been the next Gazza and Mourinho stiffled his creative ability. Hazard was great last season and might just be going through a blip right now but maybe he just can't do all the defensive work and tracking back season after season and as our most prized asset by far, perhaps we should be giving him a more free role? I really don't know. Wan't it all to come good but won't be surprised if it doesn't.

If it was just down to Ronaldo why did they not win it previously or since. Those are 2 seperate things. You can instill a winning mentality in players with good management, I never said he couldn't, but if the players he signs are no good, no amount of instilling will turn them into winners.
October 20, 201510 yr I think Jose is great and I am in no way suggesting he should leave, however, he seems absolutely clueless when it comes to changing a game. If plan A isn't working then that's it, we were screaming out for a quick player to run at defenders today at around the 70th minute, so who does he bring on? Oscar. I know there are some Oscar defenders on here but the bloke isn't a game changer and he brought absolutely nothing to the game. if I were a young player the last place I would want to be is at a team managed by Jose Mourinho.
October 21, 201510 yr I think second half yesterday summed up the tactical problems we have. We played deep and defended well, but costa is no drogba in terms of holding the ball up, and there is no one in the squad that can do this. It meant that we struggled to get up the pitch for long periods last night. We did well in the first 20 mins winning the ball high up the pitch, but it seems the longer we have the ball, the less likely we look to create anything.

I'm a big fan of Oscar but I agree the like for like swap for Fabregas achieved nothing and was never going to either. By the 70th minute we were barely retaining possession and the back four were punting hopeless long balls out of defence that Costa had no hopes of doing anything with. And because of that, bringing on Traore or Kenedy would have been pointless too, we weren't playing the ball the feet for those players to have any impact. If anything bringing on Falcao for Fabregas would have been better because then him and Costa could contend for the long ball out of defence with the each other trying to pick up the knock down.
October 22, 201510 yr Even against Villa there was a period of 10-15 minutes where we couldn't retain any possession and relying on aimless long punts to get out of our own half. I think that's what you get when you have 9 players defend around the box, and Costa up front on his own against 2-3 defenders. There's no reason why we can't defend in the shape of 4411, at least the extra man just ahead of the midfield 4 could provide a bit of relief when we need to pass the ball out of our zone. We survived in the last 2 games, but against better teams if we can't retain the ball and invite the opposition to pile on 10 minutes of pressures on us, goal will be inevitable.
October 22, 201510 yr I think the problem with Jose is that he is much too conservative ... He's not a risk taker, at all. Hence, the virtually zero chances most of the squad fringe and youth players get, or will ever get ... I suspect if he managed Man Utd, back in the day Becks, Nevilles and the likes would never have been given opportunities to break into the first team ... When Jose arrived for his 2nd spell he stamped his authority by getting rid of our best player Mata ... it was clear for all to see. This sent out a clear signal to the rest of the first team that no one is infallible and it worked ... It got the reaction he wanted and we soon won the league, etc. ...this Management style does bring rewards short term ... long-term, not so sure? Today, Jose seems stuck in a groove, so to speak and seems reluctant to change it ... Hence, the performances have stagnated ... Hence, he is much too conservative ... October 22, 201510 yr I still get the feeling with his post match interviews he's doing his best to get sacked. It's almost as if he's being even more provocative than usual in am attempt to force the boards hand.

I guess the question would have to be why would he do that though?
