There are rumours that we are giving a trial to former AC Milan goalkeeper, Marco Amelia, who is currently a free agent. I guess Jose (or the board) probably doesn't trust Blackman as Begovic's backup.

 

Was just checking his career history and realised he has only made a handful of appearances for Milan since 2010.

 

What do you guys think of this potential deal?

Based on his performances in the last three seasons, you can tell that he was pretty average.

 

He was sent on loan to Boro last season but only made one LC appearance with them and conceded two goals in that match. Though that game was against the dippers.

 

The first icon is no. of apps and the last three icons are no. of goals conceded, no. of clean sheets and total minutes played respectively.

 

 

A pointless signing doubt Blackman is worse, makes you wonder why we kept him on if he can't be trusted as a 3rd choice.

Blackman must be packing his bags already.

Why? Blackman was 3rd choice, is currently 2nd choice and as far as we know could stay 2nd choice even if Amelia comes in. If begovic gets injured at both moment we are in deep sh*t. This makes sense as a short term deal while courtois is injured.

This signing is right in line with Djilobojododji and that other fella we signed from a lower league team and loaned straight back, his name escapes me.

Well, it seems this deal is gonna be done soon after he has impressed on his trial.

Michael Hector. Yup, we are making some very odd cheap and unimpressive signings of late.

Amelia was never a particularly good keeper, although admittedly I only saw him a handful of times for AC Milan.

 

Another concern about this rumour is that it suggests that Courtois will be out for a good while yet; as far as I know we can't register any more players until January.

Edit: Actually I'm wrong, because we only named 19 players in the squad who are over 21 we can register free agents outside the transfer window.

 

The alternative free agent keepers are not a pretty sight. Compared to Stephen Bywater, Nicky Weaver, and Marton Fulop (although if I remember correctly City signed Fulop under the exact same circumstances a few years ago) Amelia seems like a godsend.

What has that got to do with anything?  Even if we had Cech Courtois would be injured and we'd still need a back up.

 

To add in my 2 cents, I don't know what people are moaning about, he's not an amazing goalkeeper but he's being signed as a third choice goalie, not as a direct replacement, the bloke will probably never even get to play a game for us.

I'm fine with this, Blackman is pretty awful.

Marco Amelia translated into English is actually Ross Turnbull.

 

Same as Plokoon, I've only seen him play a bunch of times and have never been particularly impressed. Chances are he'll never get a game but certainly safer than Blackman.

Doesn't sound all that promising. Hopefully we'll never have to play him
