Being in the right place at the right time is a fantastic quality to have. Inzaghi looked like he could barely kick a ball outside the penalty area, but scored goals for fun.

With that and his strength and ability to out jump everyone, he's looking like a very tasty prospect. He must be brought into the  team next year, he'll be 19 and full of confidence.

Bristol City should be rewarded with other youth players going to them from us.

if we are playing one up front then is that the best use of his talents?

I mean he'd likely be behind costa and batshuayi. obviously it would be a great opportunity for everyone to complain, but I'd argue if he continues to play this well then next year he should be going on loan in the premier league.

Of course you are probably correct.

But if we did switch to 3-5-2 or 4-1-3-2 then we could give him plenty of games.

Rashford has done it at manyoo, even with Rooney Martial and the big man in front of him in the pecking order.

and conte may well go with two up- in which case all bets are off.

but van gaal, whether you like him or not, is the type of manager who actively likes putting young players in, whether that is negative in the short term or not. conte is a pure meritocrat, he isn't going to be inclined to do the same (if he's even our manager next season).

not to hijack this thread but I'm getting increasingly worried / annoyed with the whole solanke situation. it looks like a situation where everyone is going to lose out.

These stats back up what you say about van gaal....

Solanke has scored 61 goals between 2013-2015

Rashford in the same period scored 17 goals.

We shouldn't be playing 1 up front anyway. It only really works if you have someone like Drogba, and he's 1 in a generation.

with all due respect, that's plainly not true- one central player up front is de rigueur in european, if not world football. two up front is more of an outlier in tactical approach these days.

anyway, on paper formations are nonsense anyway. they don't exist.

Well if we persist with this sitting incredibly deep, 1 up top won't work. We have no-one like Drogba who can win the ball against 2 defenders and hold it up, it just comes right back at us every time we panic and hoof it forward.

that is an entirely different matter though.

I don't think the idea is to play deep or with long balls though.  I don't think playing deep necessitates playing two up either. I think you are reading too much into the last game and applying it as a general rule- obviously we're not playing well, but putting another striker up there isn't an easy cure.

I even love his goal celebration. A jump with a sort of half punch. I want him to make it here badly. Looks like a guy who has fire in his belly and truly loves scoring. We need this.

He either does that half punch celebration with a jump like you say, or he does the Drogba arms out like wings .

Or a combination of the two! Either way I like it. I like it a lot

I saw one of the coaches at Bristol have likened him to a young Henry. We all know how comparisons work out but still, good to hear.

Suggestions headlines for the Bristol Echo (who must already be struggling for superlatives)....
