Leicester v Chelsea - Mon 14 Dec - 20:00

Featured Replies

As good as the foxes are the Chelsea we saw tonight is us at our best.

Porto are no mugs but we dominated them and if we repeat that display on Monday we can win.

Hear hear ... I think it is very simple. We have no idea what Chelsea team that will walk out of the tunnel on Monday, but if it plays like this, we will win. I have no doubt about that! We sucked up the pressure very well against Porto, and looked sharp when we countered. Over the years, the key to a good Chelsea team has always been the ability to suck up loads, and loads of pressure and if Matic, Zouma and Terry play like this, we will have too much for Leicester I think.

Still, it will be damn tricky because I can actually see them pulling back trying to do a number on us on the counter. But if they play high, I think we'll have them.

Same line up as last night, sane instructions to run at the defence and we will win this.

I'd take a draw right now. It's not easy performing well after a CL night with Leicester having plenty of (good) time to prepare.

I wonder if the trumpet will return...oh wait I forgot, any sign of the fans trying to make an atmosphere at the Bridge these days is frowned upon, we can't go annoying the tourists now, library conditions. The stewards really are a bunch of c*nts.

We're away.

Yesterday evening was the best performance of the season from Chelsea so far, but there have been too many false dawns where we look good only to lose again and again.

I fancied us to win against Leicester because it made sense. We can't pick up easy points, but we'll go and beat the likes of Arsenal at home and Leicester away.

I also thought we would lose against Porto and bounce back to win on Monday.

However, I now firmly believe that Leicester will take us apart. We can't replicate the highs of our European nights in our domestic matches. They are riding a huge wave.

This post doesn't make any sense at all.

Ha ha ... nothing he says makes sense really. I suppose, if we lost yesterday, he would be predicting us to win 3-0.

File in the ignore folder methinks.

Definitely a WUM.

As a Chelsea fan. I always go into games with the mentality that we will get a result.

It's pathetic for a 'fan' to be so negative, especially after a great performance.

No doubt you've worn a blindfold for most of our season then, and forgotten about all the false dawns, and are part of the CHELSEA ARE BACK!!11!! brigade, only to see us lose at home to Bournemouth.

Loyalty isn't even an issue when making a prediction. I guess if we were playing Barcelona you'd go into the game with the mentality of us getting a result? What about Bayern, or Real? No doubt you'd expect us to get something out of all of these games.

On Monday we'll be playing the top of the league, a match where I expect us to get nothing. The fact I expect us to get nothing doesn't mean I want us to lose.

I would actually be predicting us to win on Monday had we lost yesterday. The season has been one of bouncing back and forth between decent performances to rubbish ones.

I do actually. When we played Barca in 2012, I thought we could defeat them and we did. Even when we were 2-0 down in the Nou Campe with 10 men, I had hope and it f**king paid off. Same with Bayern in the final.

I was certain we were going to win against Bournemouth, unfortunately we didn't. But I'm not gonna let that result or change the way I think going into games.

I'm an optimist, I have faith that the next game will be the one where we kick start our season.

It's stupid to believe we're going to lose every game just because we're in bad form. What's the point in watching?

Well in the last 4-5 games we played good games and we have only one loss against Bournemouth

I still believe we can do something this year. The thing is the team is together and we all saw the commitment and devotion by our players last night. Fans are behind the manager and still support their team.

Same line up and isolate Vardy and Mahrez and we can take 3 points.

You must be a hit at parties.

I don't believe we're going to lose every game. You're making stuff up now.

You may be an optimist, and that's fine. I don't begrudge you your opinions going into games, so why would you begrudge mine? I happen to be a realist. Chelsea have lost around half their games so far in the league, and they've shown no sign on the domestic stage of that changing. That transpires into a realistic prediction of a loss to the league LEADERS who are in stupendously good form. I don't want us to lose and still want us to actually win.

Obviously Leicester are on stunning form at the moment and realistically, I'd love for them to go on and win it, seeing as it is pretty much impossible for us to do it.

Though they have played two of the league's top teams (I think) in Arsenal where they lost 5-2, and a poor United where they drew 1-1 at home. Whilst I'm not ruling out them winning because our domestic form is horrific. I think we can get a result if Matic and Zouma can replicate last night's performance to nullify Mahrez and Vardy, as well as Hazard starting to shine.

I'd love them to go on and win the league as well.

I also believe we can get a result against Leicester. Of course we can with the quality of our players and the form they showed at the beginning of last season, but I just don't think we will in this game. If we want to achieve a result we have to leave Fabregas out. The team actually looked fluid and good without him in it, even with misplaced pass Ramires in there.

If it's any consolation, I'm expecting us to win comfortably against United.

We had a great team performance last night and played the situation perfectly but Monday is a completely different kettle of fish. Leicester like to play with a similar style to what we employed brilliantly against Porto however Leicester will and have taken this one step further and are more than happy to play a full game with 30% possession actually they would probably prefer this if they opposition is trying to push forwards. This high octane counter has proved deadly but has also proved vulnerable and they have conceded 21 goals in their 15 games.
How I see it there is 2 schools of thought for tackling this style of football.
1. Take the possession and try to dominate the opposition throwing men forward in an attempt to score plenty of goals against a seemingly weak Liecester defense.
Prime example Arsenal in which resulted in a 5-2 drumming with 58% possession and 27 shots, however a prime example of this failing is Swansea with 60% of possession and a hell of a lot of territory were on the back of a 3-0 loss having watched this game it could have easily ended up 6-3 to Leicester as there were plenty of chances in the game.
2. Dominate the ball without exposing yourself at the back keeping 4 if not 5 men behind the ball at all times (you can guess the example for this one they have been doing it all season).
Example, Man U which was a game that ended 1-1 but Liecester didn't really have any opportunities in the game with only 3 shots on target and it took a poorly defended break away from a set piece for them to have their one good chance which lead to a goal.

There is a 3rd route but I'm not sure Liecester would allow it try a give Liecester the impetus and possession and try and counter them.

Personally I would go with the second approach for this game as you have seen how susceptible we have been to the counter this season, and I would tell my full backs along with a midfielder not to get ahead of the ball in this game. Also looking at the Liecester defense whilst stronga nd physically dominant Huth and Morgan are reasonably sluggish and lack agility they are also a team that like to commit a foul committing 19 in their last game against Swansea, all this leads me to my final point we need to show directness when we have the ball at our feet and players like Hazard, Willian, Pedro and Oscar need to dribble at players and take players on especially when we have such a good set piece at the moment. And as much of a Costa fan I am, I actually think Hazard as a false nine might actually be the best option for this game.

The team should be on a high after last night and will hopefully bring some of that confidence to the game on Monday, and for that reason I am going to predict a 2-0 Chelsea win.

But I wouldn't be surprised with a loss and if Liecester can nick a goal early we could be looking at a 3-0, 3-1 type scoreline.

Expect to see the same line up as last night but wouldn't mind if we saw Pedro brought into the side instead of Costa.

same line up as yesterday please JM!

and introduce RLC at some stage in the second half, give the boy some minutes.

I'm not sure i agree, i'm not sure we will get the same amount of space as we got yesterday. Leicester have attacked every game this season so far though, so you never know, maybe we will find space.
