March 5, 201610 yr Heard Guus is to remain at Stamford Bridge, though as an advisor. Good news if true. Interesting very interesting, advisor to ...? ...JT?
March 5, 201610 yr Interesting very interesting, advisor to ...? ...JT? He will be given an advisory role. Maybe a consultant or something like that who has input in the manager, player transfers etc ... Of the many people in Roman's Chelsea staff in the boardroom - I think this guy surely has earned it ( I am looking at you Emenalo)
March 5, 201610 yr Strange last sub today. Why even risk fabregas for 10 mins when we are winning? Why take off a defensive player for an attacking player in that situation.
March 5, 201610 yr Strange last sub today. Why even risk fabregas for 10 mins when we are winning? Why take off a defensive player for an attacking player in that situation. It was the same in mid week. He bought on players that he was resting, I personally don't see the logic in doing that. If he wanted to take someone off it should have been either Willian to rest him for mid week or Oscar because he was on a yellow card. Taking Matic off was just odd.

I kinda understood the sun's in midweek though as we looked like we were going to throw the 2 nil lead away. Today was just plain odd. I thought he was going to take willian off fir pato. If we had conceded after that, then at you could've pointed to the fact willian got a little rest.
March 5, 201610 yr Strange last sub today. Why even risk fabregas for 10 mins when we are winning? Why take off a defensive player for an attacking player in that situation. That's just the problem. Bringing in an attacking player for a defensive player when we were winning and the game is about to end. Anyway I know he is not stubborn and must have leant from this.
March 5, 201610 yr Done nice steady job under circumstances...but seven draws in run of 12 unbeaten is to that great...not helped by subs and tactics...puts end to nonsense he should get job full-time
March 5, 201610 yr Staets with 2 DM players then when we need to close out the game he takes one off for an attacking midfielder!!! It bloody beggers belief

March 5, 201610 yr Pinched from Twitter. Chelsea since Hiddink took over: Ten home points dropped to Watford, WBA, Everton, Man Utd & Stoke. Just one home win - over Newcastle. Edited March 5, 201610 yr by ForeverCarefree
March 5, 201610 yr Pinched from Twitter. Chelsea since Hiddink took over: Ten home points dropped to Watford, WBA, Everton, Man Utd & Stoke. Just one home win - over Newcastle. Said it earlier in the week that our home record is actually pretty poor under Guus, although the away one is excellent. Not a clean sheet amongst those matches either and Newcastle got one too. I think he's in a tough position but if we're looking towards next season and European qualification then the league and FA Cup offer the best routes, and today he sent out a weakened team. Why? Because the lure of the Champions League is too great. Some might say it's delusional to think we can win the competition but the prize is too big so you risk everything else for it. So he maybe had to do what he did today. Looking back in a couple of months time though, it may look naive.
March 5, 201610 yr Ye i really like guus as a person but i have to admit, since his return, nearly all of his starting XI's and his subs have been a complete 'WTF' for me , always seems to get it wrong
March 5, 201610 yr all he was brought in to do was steady the ship and get us away from the relegation zone, anything else in the cups is a bonus. As for long term, i think he is to old, he is good for what he was brought in for
March 5, 201610 yr Interim manager playing interim stylee. Done a great job steadying the ship but has very little passion - it infuriates me no end watching him just sitting there with his arms folded when he ought to be in the tech' area getting involved. He's a rich guy and at 69 this is a just a cherry on top of the cake for him retirement present. Probably picking up a million or two for his efforts. Football and wages - so laughable you couldn't make it up.
March 6, 201610 yr all he was brought in to do was steady the ship and get us away from the relegation zone, anything else in the cups is a bonus. As for long term, i think he is to old, he is good for what he was brought in for I'd be curious to know what Roman discussed with Guus before signing him in December. My speculation is that he told Guus that his job was to 1) Avoid relegation 2) Undo the public relations damage that Jose had caused earlier in the season. 3) Have a respectable FA cup run 4) Restore a supportive non-dysfunctional environment among the players in order to give the next manager an easier time starting out In light of that, Guus has fulfilled his responsibilities. If the reports of him getting an advisory role are true, then Roman is clearly satisfied. Cannot wait for him to leave tbh. Awful subs turns victorys into defeats Cant stand him Defeats? We're on a 13 game undefeated streak. (Is that the longest league unbeaten streak this season?) Sure many of them have been draws, but during Jose's time this season, we weren't even getting many draws; we straight out lost. I think that Guus has turned losses into draws. Earlier on the lads wouldn't have fought back from being down against Southampton. Over the last 12 games (since Guus arrived) we're THIRD in the league. Over the last 13 games (since Jose left), we're SECOND in the league. Pretty impressive when you consider the fact that we've had a nightmare time with injuries. two games in a row of bewilderingly awful substitution decision Ye i really like guus as a person but i have to admit, since his return, nearly all of his starting XI's and his subs have been a complete 'WTF' for me , always seems to get it wrong This may be part of Guus's strategy to keep everyone happy by giving everyone some token playing time. We're not getting relegated, and challenging for Europe via the league is unrealistic. To diffuse the unhappiness among the players that a mid-table finish may create, he's giving them all some playing time. Even 10 meaningless minutes can make a player feel important and avoid conflict. Maintaining the "one big happy family" feeling can be more important in the grand scheme than climbing a few places within the mid-table. A dysfunctional atmosphere can do more long term damage than the decreased money for finishing 11th instead 9th. Edited March 6, 201610 yr by offside
March 6, 201610 yr If we had just won our home games under guus we probably would be sitting top 4, its not been good enough before and after mourinho

Done a great job steadying the ship but has very little passion - it infuriates me no end watching him just sitting there with his arms folded when he ought to be in the tech' area getting involved. How people can hold it against him that he's acting like an interim manager when that's exactly what he is, and that's exactly what he was brought in for, and he's made it clear from the beginning that he's not interested in being a "long term" manager?
March 6, 201610 yr We're not getting relegated, and challenging for Europe via the league is unrealistic. If we'd won yesterday we'd be two points off 7th which is Europa League potentially, isn't it?
March 6, 201610 yr If we had just won our home games under guus we probably would be sitting top 4, its not been good enough before and after mourinho Since Guus arrived, we're 3rd in the league behind Spurs and West Ham. How you can realistically expect an interim manager inheriting a 16th place team and being crippled with injuries to do better? As for the home games, yeah it's kind of weird. I wonder if the hostility the players faced over Jose contributed to that.
March 7, 201610 yr As much as I hated Jose being sacked, Guus has really done a good job and credit to him. He has steadied the ship and brought harmony to the team. I don't think Jose could have done any better, probably worse. This is also the reason why I think he won't be good for a full season. He doesn't have the pressure to win like Jose had and hence he can take this approach. With a full season, his lack of tactical nous will kill us. Edited March 7, 201610 yr by JoseBlues

He's excellent at turning things around and he would be excellent entire season manager. Believe me he can handle the pressure better than some of the top managers. But he's at the end of his career. He just want to retire and watch football as a spectator. Edited March 7, 201610 yr by Michael440

Maybe he doesn't have the players at his disposal or most are injured but his subs are killing us in recent games. I still believe he won't be good for the entire season in the current game but we will never know that, will we?
