May 8, 201610 yr I think Conte, would know about all our potential candidates for the armband, Cesc is world renowned for his play and style, but I hope JT is kept on...
May 8, 201610 yr Good question. I think it is going to be between Ivanovic, Cesc or a Conte signing - ie.Bonucci for example EDIT: If JT leaves, that is Edited May 8, 201610 yr by RickUK
May 9, 201610 yr Conte will bring in his own man as captain .....Bonucci or some one else who he knows from the Italian league. The reason I say that is because, during the course of this awful season, we have all witnessed a lack of leadership. Peter Cech would have been our captain, but Jose unfortunately decided he wanted Courtois to be our number 1 goalie....obviously that pissed off Cech. JT was a lone voice. A successful team needs more leaders than just one. Conte is definately aware that he needs to recruit a few leaders and a captain before the new season starts.
May 9, 201610 yr Unfortunately the way it is going, it will probably be Ivan. Our fearless captain torched every game. Sigh
May 10, 201610 yr Biggest club mistake was letting Cech, Lampard, Cole, Drogba and possibly Terry leave in the space of 2-3 years. No Chelsea blood left in the club. We have players that are Chelsea players but no Club blood players like the 5 I mentioned. We had no leadership this year when Terry was out. The reason we won the EPL last year because Jose brought back Drogba we had two true blood chelsea players that gave there all to the club. We need to make our next capitan someone that has Chelsea in the blood. Cahill, Ivanovic, Azpi. At this stage all 3 of these players care about the club and have given there all. Cahil and Ivanovic might not have it left in them but if they stay at the club they need to stand up and show the way to the rest of the club. Azpi has been one of our best players for that past few years and not much recognition has gone his way. In my eyes he should be captain with someone like Ivanovic and Cahill as VC.

In my opinion your post has a lot of half truths. It was fine to let go of all the players you listed, The mistake was in not getting the same quality of replacement. We settled for subpar quality and now we are looking for talismans when we should have been looking for them much before. Also, We did not win the league last year just because we had Drogba back - I think Costa and Fabergas inclusion also had a lot more to that. Who should be our next captain is not as big an issue as what our squad next year should be. I look at this squad and how we played this year and I dont see any captain who can come in and rescue us. We need a sensible rebuild.
May 10, 201610 yr Thing is though you can see what happened at Man U whilst Fergie was there he kept certain players around that he knew could be a voice in the dressing room. What we're doing reminds me of what Arsenal did with there 03-04 title winning side, within the space of 2-4 years they completely pulled that team apart. You have to keep your leaders, who then help other players become leaders before moving on themselves.
May 10, 201610 yr As previously discussed, the running of the club has become a joke. Can't see us finishing much higher than we have this year with the same group of players, and no John Terry. Edited May 10, 201610 yr by stevo
May 11, 201610 yr Mikel should be captain, our longest serving player and always has a great gam... Oh who am i kidding. Just give it to Fabregas, Cahill or Ivanovic already.
May 12, 201610 yr cahil should be next captain. He has a mature head about him generally, and can lead and read from the back
May 12, 201610 yr Hazard named as Belgian captain. Litmus Test for him. I hope he takes Belgium as high as possible. Would give us an indication of how well he can cope with pressure.
May 12, 201610 yr The very fact that there are no nailed on contenders for the future captain role speaks volumes.
May 12, 201610 yr The very fact that there are no nailed on contenders for the future captain role speaks volumes. There are no nailed on contenders, but I think people are underestimating the potential Azpilicueta and Cahill have as captain. They're different personality wise from JT, and that's okay. Good leaders can have a variety of personalities.
May 12, 201610 yr The very fact that there are no nailed on contenders for the future captain role speaks volumes.Has Cesc captained Arsenal? Bran and Hazard now captain their countries. Cahill has been England captain, whether that continues IDK. What more can you ask for.I think that statement applies to more than a few clubs Edited May 12, 201610 yr by TheChelseaBlues
May 12, 201610 yr But if, as rumoured Conte brings in a commanding CB like Bonucci and if Zouma continues his development when he returns i can't even see Cahill being a regular starter, let alone Captain of the team. Although it seems a bit of a nominal appointment nowadays i would still imagine that you would want your Captain to be one of the first names on the team sheet.
May 15, 201610 yr When Ivanovic was subbed today, who took the armband? My bet is that person will be the next captain unless Conte brings in someone.

May 15, 201610 yr Courtois? hell no, he doesn't even seem interested in staying here. He would be my last choice
May 15, 201610 yr Has Cesc captained Arsenal? Bran and Hazard now captain their countries. Cahill has been England captain, whether that continues IDK. What more can you ask for. I think that statement applies to more than a few clubs I'll give you Cahill, Ivan is past his best by a long way, even if Cesc once captained Ars*nal and Hazard is Belgium's at the mo. neither of those two have the leadership qualities required.
May 16, 201610 yr Unfortunately the way it is going, it will probably be Ivan. Our fearless captain torched every game. SighDon't upset me on Monday please.
