August 20, 20169 yr Proof of the pudding is in the eating, and despite a lot of negative feelings for most of the match, conte and the boys delivered. Well done lads, thanks for a great start to the weekend. So if we do think of sticking with a 442 then who is the midfield 4? Burnley at home next, Cesc should start on merit. No qualms with the tactics though, had we started with whatever formation and the players we ended up with we may not have won 2-1... Edited August 20, 20169 yr by the special one
August 20, 20169 yr You've got to look at it at the reverse angle to truly see how wonderful the pass was. Started straight at a Watford defender then curved brilliantly right in front of Costa. I know right? That defender did a 360 when that pass came his way
August 20, 20169 yr Every writer and commentator mentions costa staying on first then the fact we came back and won the match. Its gets so flipping old!

August 20, 20169 yr Don't let the win paper over what for 75mins was a slow ponderous performance that created nothing. Hopefully the spark injected by Moses, Bats and Fab in place of the pedestrian Pedro, Oscar and Matic will tell Conte all he needs to know for future selections. Early days but am praying once he sees for himself the weaknesses will be addressed. Also Stick by my earlier comment, Ivanovic needs to be put in the bin. Would love to see Aina get a run against Burnley. Pleased with the win, away to a well organized side, and hopefully Conte can build results in to performances to match. This and This. We looked so much better after the changes were made so hope to see all 3 subs start the next game in front of the very average Pedro, Matic & Oscar. Would also like to see Aina get the nod over Ivan. Edited August 20, 20169 yr by Nibs
August 20, 20169 yr what's your point? Clearly a joke to say for people to keep slagging him off cause when people do he scores. Edited August 20, 20169 yr by Bobbywoodhogan
August 20, 20169 yr just like being kicked in the bollocks and then given an ice cream as a treat....love being a Chelsea fan... Brilliant couldn't have said it better . . COYB
August 20, 20169 yr Jesus, if you want to support a team that wins all the time I'm pretty sure you can follow Barça or Celtic. [emoji849]
August 20, 20169 yr Lost my sh*t in my teams club house when I seen we scored the second... 6 points from 6 very very nice!
August 20, 20169 yr Getting Ricardo Rodriguez should be the least we oughta do. Ivanovic needs to be a back-up CB. Getting a CB would be nice but I do not think Kouli at 55mm+ is a good piece of business looking into the future. I trust our pipeline of good CB like Christensen, Tomori and Clarke-Salter. Hopefully the club stays patient. Is not a win PL or bust year. If we want a little push, maybe take a chance on Lindelof who can play across the back 4. But my point is, we need to replace Ivanovic or we never going to beat the elite teams. On the positive side, loved seen Michy score and continue making a difference. He is so far proving to be a great investment. Edited August 20, 20169 yr by Boricua Blue
August 20, 20169 yr Nice to see a whole team putting in all they can and wrapping up the points. Shame that the team still needs to be on the ropes before kicking into 3rd and 4th gear but hopefully that's just until the team clicks better under Conte's methods. Little pissed that every time Costa scores we have to hear a whine of "should he even be on the pitch?" . Trust us, the refs are not going out of their way to keep him on the pitch as they seem to do for certain others....
August 20, 20169 yr Set up Hazard for his shot ? you cant have an assist assist. I've always felt this is one thing football should take from ice hockey, the double assist. So often the real magic occurs in the pass that leads to the assist.

August 20, 20169 yr Before Bats and Cesc the game reminded me of 13-14 can't score for sh*t squad, we just need to balance it out by not having a majority defensive midfield and we'll win games more easily. Really Kante, Matic, Oscar (and usually Willian as well) is 1 too many players who is in the team for defensive qualities over attack.
August 20, 20169 yr Clearly a joke to say for people to keep slagging him off cause when people do he scores. Glad I asked then because otherwise I would have wronged you..
August 20, 20169 yr Just read Sky Sports match report and they gave Fabregas a 4 . . The whole match report is a disgrace, those sorts of reports are meant to be objective.
August 20, 20169 yr Is this another example of the Emperor's new clothes? Come on guys how long do we keep ignoring Cesc and the benefit of a twin striker model?
August 20, 20169 yr Best thing about game was pinching the three points. Best thing from a more long term perspective is Conte getting first hand view of how much better we look with Cesc playing. Yes it also demonstrated that Moses did more than Pedro but I think that just shows that we could do with a better option than either of them. Costa should have walked. No doubt about that. He is somehow going to have to learn to keep his gob shut or he is going to be walking a tightrope every week.
August 20, 20169 yr Great comeback. Hindsight's a great thing but we really should've started with 2 up top from the start. Watford pressed our midfield well and there was rarely a forward pass on (and of our midfield 5, there was only Hazard capable of beating his man and moving forward). I thought Pedro and Matic were the least effective today. Both among the best in their positions on their day, but I haven't seen that day from either in a long time. We missed Willian (although Moses stretched the game well when he came on), and I still think we need a more imposing midfield presence to complement Kante and Oscar/Fabregas than Matic (could we see Loftus Cheek trialled in there soon?)... MOTM Kante for me. But hats off to Diego for another late winner, and Fabregas for being so effective in such a short space of time.
August 20, 20169 yr You've got to look at it at the reverse angle to truly see how wonderful the pass was. Started straight at a Watford defender then curved brilliantly right in front of Costa. Can't believe Coco called it 'a punt' upfield. That was inch perfect, carved open the the team. Fabulous pass. Thought the defence did well other than Ivanovic. Cahill had a good game, I thought. Kante. Always seems to be at the right place and can actually play. Kept waiting for him to shank his passes miles away from a teammate of trip over his feet (from years of watching Ramires) but that never happened. He is great on the ball just as he is off it. Impressed. Matic still off but I'd much rather he plays than Oscar. Fabregas has quality passing miles above everyone else. Hazard was okay/good. Costa with a cool finish. Batshuayi looks very good. Moses, strong, direct and forceful. More of him, please. Pedro, Iva and Oscar are the ones that were poor.
