January 9, 20179 yr First off I do apologize If this has been made before If it has mods you know you can just delete this thread. Anyway so what is your view of him? Two recent stories out today he says Ake is apparently "distraught" about being recalled to Chelsea apparently maybe getting played in the league leaders first team is something to be upset about, what in hells name is this guy on about I really don't get him at all? Secondly apparently Michy Batshuayi isn't right for Chelsea as a back-up to Diego Costa, I think he might be forgetting that Batshuayi is in his first season he is relatively young and he has shown promise when played, Ray also went onto basically saying he thinks he isn't mentally strong enough and finally the last example of B.S I can think from Ray is when he was having a go at Marcos Alonso who hasn't been world class but nevertheless he has been doing his job well he's been creating chances and defending adequately but apparently to Ray we should have kept Bertrand... I don't get this guy he is full of constant gripes he was a good player in his day and he seemed like a very good assistant manager but I think he needs to take it down a touch or two its very disrespectful of him.
January 9, 20179 yr He was at the club more for player relations as much as anything i think, he doesn't strike me as someone who would make a great coach and some of the things he comes out with as a pundit makes me cringe.

If an ex-player for an opposition side talked about their team in the way that Butch talks about us we'd all think he was completely insufferable. Admittedly it is unusual for him to call players out like he has done in the past couple of weeks, but I don't think the criticism has been as severe as you've made out. This is my penny's worth: Ake - Ray says he thinks Aké will be upset as he doesn't think he will be a regular starter. (i.e. he's speculating) Batshuayi - Ray says he looks a little too hungry due to his lack of first-team appearances, says his ball control in the Peterborough game was poor and reckons he might be buckling under the pressure of playing for a big side. Alonso - Ray says he has played well but that we could upgrade on him in that position... which is undeniably true!
January 9, 20179 yr His stature in the game says he is a considered voice, brutally honest, and loves us to death, he could well be right on the Ake call, i hope he does get a run at Left wingback, he is bloody quality.
January 9, 20179 yr Ex Man Utd players Keane, Gary Neville and Scholes have all upset Old Trafford fans with some of their recent comments. These guys aren't working for the clubs own TV channel and probably feel they need to go that little bit further to show they are not biased. In the case of Ake he may be thinking how he would feel himself. Going from first team regular to the bench. Though who knows? Possibly Ake is happy to be back and in contention for a place in a title challenging team. Doesn't bother me if he says some negative things about the club as long as they are honest views. He gives the club plenty praise too. Rather that than the cringing ex Liverpool players like Thompson who cannot bring themselves to say anything remotely critical about their old club. January 9, 20179 yr Wilkins is a staunch Chelsea supporter, he's openly said on the radio that he hopes we bash Tottenham. He's always been positive about Chelsea in the times I have listened to him. Edited January 9, 20179 yr by stevo
January 9, 20179 yr Ray Wilkins is a top bloke, he's Chelsea through and through, and he's lucky to be paid for watching football, and he gives his honest personal opinion on all things football. We've all got our right to our opinion, and most of us think we know just as much or even better than some of the pundits......however we should respect the fact that Ray Wilkins has more experience than us, as he's played at top level and comes across as being intelligent, even though we don't always agree with......but some of what he says is true. Ake needs to play for Chelsea, and if he doesn't get regular 90 minutes game time, then he will certainly be pissed off. Which is basically what Ray thinks, which most people would agree with.
January 10, 20179 yr Good knowledge of the game. Was a good coach under Vialli and Anchelotte. He can say things as he's not paid by Chelsea TV. People on Chelsea TV can't uncross their legs and say what they want because their job is more important, just look what happened to Tommy Langley.

January 15, 20179 yr Always thought he was sympathetic but he comes of sort of simple. He plays that nice calm guy card but isn't my cup of tea really. A bit boring listening to him.
January 16, 20179 yr Ray is a legend, I think he is a top top pundit, cut him and he bleeds Chelsea Blue, forthright and articulate as well...
January 16, 20179 yr Despite his ties to the club and the fact he is clearly a fan as well, i find him very difficult as a pundit. Apparently a very nice guy but doesn't seem to be with it when talking about football.
January 16, 20179 yr Thought he was a man united fan as a kid , nearly sure I saw that in a matchday programme from he's playing days with us. Didn't he leave at the first chance he got ? Not really Chelsea through and through. He's boring in my opinion and definitely tries hard to be Mr nice guy but fair play for being our youngest ever club captain.
January 16, 20179 yr The only reason Ray Wilkins (or Butch Wilkins as he was back in the 1970's, and butch didn't mean gay back then either in case your wondering) .........as I was saying, he left Chelsea for Man Utd .....purely because Man Utd offered Chelsea a lot of money for him ( not a lot by today's standards, but nevertheless a lot back then) and Chelsea accepted the bid, because they needed the money to pay towards the cost of rebuilding the east stand.........Ray Wilkins was very happy at Chelsea, but the club decided to sell him .......so i suggest you check out the facts first before you start shouting the odds, about someone you barely know !!
January 17, 20179 yr /yeah Butch never wanted to leave, in fact he was devastated when told he had been sold to Utd apparently.

Some far points but he was united fan as a boy I believe so I'm sure it was a dream move for him. Do you personally know him ? He's hardly blue through at through if he supported united is he? Maybe you should also check the facts. You say it was purely down to money why he went but like I said he's a united fan as a boy so dream come through for him, who wouldn't want to play for the team he supported as a boy. I must try find the programme he's questions and answers where in. I'm well aware he's nickname was butch and it wasn't a gay term not that it matters. My dad drank with him numerous times in the players lounge and said he was a nice enough guy but as a pundit he tries to hard to be a nice guy which I find quite boring.
