First match is always toughz you can ask how did England only score two against Tunisia when Belgium could have put 6 or 7 past them

How did Belguim fail to score against Panama for the entire first half ?

Tunisia actually tried to play football against Belguim, something they didn't do in the first game.

Here's a breakdown of how the World Cup tiebreaker scenarios play out for teams that are tied in points.

1. Goal difference in all group matches

2. Goals scored in all group matches

If two or more teams are still tied after using these initial tiebreakers, the next round of tiebreakers is used.

3. Greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned.

4. Goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned.

5. Greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned.

6. Greater number of points obtained in the fair play conduct of the teams based on yellow and red cards received in all group matches as follows:

• Yellow card: minus one point
• Indirect red card as the result of a second yellow card: minus three points
• Direct red card: minus four points
• Yellow card and direct red card: minus five points
(Only one of the above deductions shall be applied to a player in a single match)

7. Drawing of lots by FIFA Organizing Committee (a random draw)

Given the weak opposition and England's unconvincing win against Tunisia we can't read too much into these results, but what will encourage England is the fact that they've actually started a WC campaign strongly, whereas in 2010 and 2014 they just spluttered along, often against somewhat weaker opposition, before being dumped out fairly early doors. These victories will at least give them confidence that they can go on to bigger and better things. Whether or not they actually do is another question, especially if they finish second (which is a reasonable possibility given Belgium is in the group).

As for Australia, I've been heartened by our performances against France and Denmark. Lots of heart, courage, organisation. Jedinak has led strongly, Mooy has consistently impressed and Behich/Risdon/Rogic/Sainsbury/Milligan/Leckie/Arzani/Ryan have made at least a decent fist of things. Problem is, we have no finishers in our side.

If everything stays as it is and England get through the last 16, then we get either Brazil or Germany.......i think i would prefer us to finish 2nd.

If we finish 2nd, we get either Mexico or Switzerland. They are both doing well, but our record against Brazil and Germany is terrible, so i would rather we went up against Mexico or Switzerland.
