June 26, 20188 yr thought John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses really gave it everything for their country tonight - so close to an amazing result

June 26, 20188 yr Argentina were technically superior with 66% of the possession and they made the ball work in the first half especially while Nigeria had to run. I was interested to see Rojo start as thought he might not have recovered from the injury he sustained at Utd. I recall the last WC where he played as a defender taking no prisoners and thought he was lucky then to stay on the pitch. Again today seems like luck with that finish and gambling by staying up. Again was disappointed at times with Messi not supporting the man on the ball and moving away yet his goal was majestic. In the 2nd half Argentina increased the tempo with short inter passing and Nigeria struggled to get good possession though they did create the odd good chance. Moses and Mikel both played well. Don't see Argentina going past France, on another note their support today was massive.

If they can break through France's defence, then they stand a chance. France have been very underwhelming so far and their performances have been the most boring of the teams going through. They were my choice to win the whole thing, but i really hope they don't.

True about France and like Argentina raised their game today I expect similarly France to raise their game against Argentina. Personally would prefer France to drop out, yet jut don't see it.

I also fancied France to win the WC, that was before the tournament started !. Agree with you France have been awful to watch, but I do think that they should see off Argentina. At least France are organised and have a system, Argentina are just a shambles, no one seems to know what they are supposed to be doing in that side.
June 26, 20188 yr Sad to see Maradona reduced to a circus act, with people egging him on. I don’t like the bloke, but he’s poorly advised and needs help, shouldn’t be anywhere near Russia. Enough of that though, it’s an interesting World Cup, I think the big teams have lacked quality, who knows who’s going to win it. Edited June 26, 20188 yr by Floyd25

Could you imagine if Gazza had gone to manage England, not that is an excuse. I bet half of Argentina see him now as an embarrassment and wish he was watching back home on the TV.
June 27, 20188 yr I'm not sure their is a player at the world cup that would of scored that Messi goal, sublime first 2 touches, and that finish with his wrong foot, wowwwwwww, at least he shut up some of those idiotic ink scribblers, as for France, so far Pants, Argies 2-0
June 27, 20188 yr Iceland had plenty of goal scoring chances before Croatia lifted their game, I meant had they scored first it could be bye-bye Argentina, imagine Messi and his cos celebrated the win then got the awful news. If VAR is introduced in the league with the way it's been operating in WC, they'd be like 15 extra Penalties every weekend. The referee has to take charge and stand by his decision, if he saw it as accidental handball, tell the players to get f* and play on, no more this let's have a look because you guys asked for it BS.

So why did Maradona decide to give the double middle finger right after Argentina scored the winner? Was he giving it to the referee? Just seems like a weird thing to do at that time, more like something he would do if Nigeria would have scored to go up a goal.

I took it that maybe he was getting a bit of stick and that was to the Nigerian fans but who knows what goes on in there. Hes a bit like Best, I hero on the football field but during some of his drunken antics I found him an embarrassment.
June 27, 20188 yr Apparently De Gea is getting dropped by Hierro for the knockout stages with Kepa Arrizabalaga coming in. Hopefully this nauseating w**k fest over him stops, most overrated keeper i have seen.

June 27, 20188 yr How was that not a penalty for Sweden. The cheat, that is Javier Hernandez, is up to his old tricks again.

Made even more tragic by the fact he moved to Croydon... The South Korean players seem scared to have a shot at the minute, so frustrating. Their keeper is having a good game mind! June 27, 20188 yr Exactly what Mexico didn't want to happen - getting smashed, so Germany only need to win now and Mexico are out, despite winning 2 of 3 games. Germany will find a late goal.

He's been forced to play under defensive managers whilst surrounded by players nowhere near his level. Put him in Madrid's team & he'd be considered Top 3 in the World. He's easily been the best player in the tournament so far. God bless you, my friend!
June 27, 20188 yr I thought there might be a shock today - but wow! Germany out before the knockout round - don't think many would have predicted that from the group they were in.
