A memorable match to watch from 2004 - date.

A match to watch from 2004 - date.

With the current situation and no live matches. I've been watching footage a few of our matches from the past.

Thought we could pick footage of a memorable match from say 2004/2005 onwards.

There are lots to choose from.

I've picked one match to start.

Our 6-0 hammering of Arsenal at The Bridge from 22nd March 2014.

The 1000th match for Arsene Wenger

Was only talking about this game yesterday with my son. Very memorable day - we blew them away. Probably the only thing of note I can remember Salah doing while he was here. We were pretty successful with Luis and Matic in midfield. I remember the superb win at the Etihad with that combination, and would be interested to see our record with them in midfield.

That Arsenal side was like a wet paper bag. The contrast with the team Wenger had at the start of his era is ridiculous. They were a powerful, intimidating side, and then he decided to put together a bunch of little lightweights (and one enormous uncoordinated donkey).

Indeed it was a very memorable day.

6-0 v the Arsenal

You bastard. You just gave the results away.

I do humbly apologise...

For anyone not wanting to know the score of the 2005 CL game v Barcelona.  Please ignore my post on the Barcelona game:biggrin:

Reminded me of the classic episode of What Ever Happened to the Likely Lads?

I've been waiting for a period of enforced isolation before settling down to see how we got on in that game at Highbury. It's been hard not reading the sports pages and tuning into sports bulletins these past 16 (shudder) years.

In fairness I still struggle to watch these games in complete comfort, I have this tendency of actually going back and recalling my thoughts and feelings at the time.

For example the CL quarter at Highbury, I remember the nerves and the feeling of dread facing Arsenal back then like it was yesterday, and I genuinely jumped up watching Bridge's winner again.

I'm the same every time I watch the highlights of the 5-4 Man City Zenith Data Final from March 1986  at Wembley.

I'm urging the ref to blow his whistle, in case City equalise...

Apologies, if anyone doesn't know that score:biggrin:

Avoid radio, TV and newspapers. Perhaps claim sanctuary in a church?

I watched the game with my brother-in-law who is an Arsenal fan in a local pub. While I was very happy he certainly wasn't. I spoke to my sister the next day and she said he came home in a foul mood.

Love this idea. So many good matches.

Can I add to this a few of our epic battles against Liverpool (the ones we won of course not the bullsh*t ghost goal etc.)

1. 2008 Chelsea 3 -2 Liverpool. CL second leg under Avram to make the Moscow final. Lamps stepping forward just after his Mum died.

2. 2009 Chelsea 4 - 4 Liverpool. Ludicrous CL game where we came back from 2-0 down at halftime to knock them out 7-5 on aggregate.

Also a bit earlier but one of the most important games in our history. Final day in 2002-03 to make the Champions League. Gronks with the goal to save us.

BT Sport have 3 hours of classic Chelsea matches this coming Tuesday 31st March.

3 different programmes of matches.

Times are 6-7am, 7-8am and 8-9am

It's on BT Sport 3, in case anyone wants to record them.

I watched the extended highlights of the Barcelona game in 2005 last night on BT Sport. What a fantastic match that was it had everything. Six goals, lots of chances, world class saves and exorbitant celebrations at the end. Plus possibly my favorite goal scored against us by Ronaldinho.

Still get a bit emotional when Frank steps forward to take that pen.
