Which junior burgers might make the senior bench regularly this season?

Featured Replies

I am thinking Marc Guehi and Connor Gallagher are the most likely.v I am wondering if Guehi mightn't be ready to start playing more regularly but maybe it takes one more season. He's looked very solid on the couple of occasions he's been on the tv

I think Guehi if we offload someone from the D. Maybe Maatsen. Maybe Ampadu.

If we make 5-6 buys the way to the first team is that much harder. From the looks of it, this influx of academy players is just a blip in our history.

I do think there has been an element of making a silk purse from a sow's ear. We lauded some of these players as comparable to the class of 92. RLC is a prime example. Decent player with great potential but made of glass and had his most productive performances in a Palace shirt. He then put in a few decent performances for us but with each injury his reputation seems to increase as the unveiled gem.

I am not putting our youngsters down. We do have some fantastic quality and pitential in some areas but the top end of the football ladder in the men's game is an unforgiving arena.

I don't get this financial resale bollocks that seems to take precedence nowadays as well as we are all more concerned with what we would sell players for as their contracts run down. Lets not forget any player is entitled to stay to the end of his contract and keave for free regardless of age. A players prime years are 28-30 and I don't think that has ever really changed. A solid experienced team with a few bright youngster coming through regularly being mentored on the pitch would be my ideal model. Through gritted teeth I would admit that the dirty Scouse seem to have developed the right formula.

I thought Guehi's loan to Swansea ran for this coming season as well ?

Gallagher will also probably go out on loan. Would imagine similar for Maatsen, Bate, Anjorin and maybe Livramento.

Probably space in the squad for Ampadu, and Gilmour again, and no doubt the 3rd keeper will be someone from the junior ranks, unless we move Willy to #3.

Apparently we've also signed the "new Van Dijk" (the 6 foot 5 inch 18 year old centre back Xavier Mbuyama) so it wouldn't surprise me if he got fast tracked from the development squad, assuming he is up to it !

Guehi is definitely on loan at Swansea for one more season so he will not be appearing for Chelsea this season. I am not taking it too seriously for now but quite a few stories in newspapers suggesting Tomori will lave this summer. I assume loan if that was the case but seems like he might even be sold. I would be surprised to see that happen as I thought he was one of our better defensive options this past season.

Yes he thought he did OK as well, but he's clearly fallen out of favour with Frank for some reason ... (based on lack of appearances in 2020)

Mason Mount, Billy Gilmour, Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James. Combined age of about 12...

Wait till you get to my age mate, they all start to look 12 as well!

I've been once in about five years it's such a con. If you went into a greasy spoon and got served a lukewarm burger, salty fries and an apple pie that's like eating molten lava and a coke with more ice then the North Pole you'd refuse to pay and never go back again.

Is he? I know Broja is but hadn’t heard that Anjorin was joining him.

Yeah, same.  Here's a link showing Broja has joined Vitesse (and I think scored in their first pre season game).

All I can see on Anjorin is him signing for the club on a new 5 year deal back in June.  No mention of a loan

Didn’t know where to post this, anyone watch the youth cup semi final? Thought Livramento and Simeu were class, Bate too, hopefully some debuts for them later in the season, maybe FA Cup. Livramento particularly is looking the part this season, hopefully doesn’t do a Lamptey.

I didn't realise they were finishing this one, was/is it on ITV like previous years?

It was on BT sports - I would imagine that the final will be on that channel as well - Monday 2nd November  @ 19.30 v Man City.

I remember travelling up from Portsmouth for one of the final leg at The Bridge years ago. Got half way up the A3 and my car died a death, had to ring an ex who lived nearby and beg for a lift :laugh2:
