Could be a negotiating tactic by his agent since he still hasn’t signed a new contract, and is after £150k/w+. The only top club I could see going after him in the summer would be Spurs since we wouldn’t be after a ridiculous fee, other big clubs require a GK good with his feet. Sánchez wouldn’t be my pick though, you just know Brighton will demand £50m for him. Still feel Diogo Costa at Porto is the best GK available on the market.
November 15, 20223 yr Mendy is good enough to be our number 1. All we need to do is stop this boring football passing it amongst our backline constantly putting our keeper under pressure.

Yes! bring back route one brexit-ball. 4-4-f**king 2 as Mike Bassett would say. Hoof it up to the big man and hope for the best.

A journalist called Ken Early did a brilliant piece on it at the time. That was straight off the traing ground back in the day when we had a coach.

Play out from the back and it all favours the team in possession so fate is in your own hands. Glad it worked in the CL final though, Tuchel had an eye for those things.

I doubt he is the only one looking to leave. Hopefully we can have a good clear out and, most importantly, get the right people in.
November 15, 20223 yr For me, he's never really been a completely dedicated type. Unlike Kepa, who has been managing the team on-field more than GP! He just seems more a team player and Mendy has always struck me as someone thats only there to do their job (minus the clearances) I'm sure he was making noises about not staying long after he signed which obviously says a lot. Kepa sat on the bench longer than some of our managers and didn't whinge at all. In fact, remember when he was giving instructions to Kai who was coming on. Mendy loses his place for a few games and starts moaning! Either way, if Mendy is off, we need another keeper for definite!
November 15, 20223 yr Thing is though with Mendy at his best, he was genuinely among the best keepers on the planet. Kepa at his best is just a very good keeper. That's it.
November 15, 20223 yr I'd agree that Mendy used to be at one point, but think he lost his way sometime last season! Could argue also that we lost 3 of the 4 recent ones with Mendy in goal, but I really wouldn't put that down to him, that'd be way harsh and don't think Kepa would've be able to stop them either.

Well we need to practice on winning the second balls. At least if we lose possession, the opposite have more to do to get the ball back into our area. Playing out the back is fine but the way we do it is not. We play it to Mendy because the midfield and attack have no idea how to get out. That just increases the chances of a mistake happening because it is by far the most riskiest passing play in football. One mistake and you've had it. In the end Mendy is forced to lump it up anyway in panic because our defenders have all been closed down.

He's on a massive contract and had no leg to stand on regarding his poor form, costing us week and week out. He was happy to sit on the bench and work hard to get his chance as opposed to joining a smaller club for half the wage.

You pass him the ball from CB and you know its coming straight back to you.

For a goalkeeper? his options are pass short or knock it long, not really any other options. As for a team, i'd rather us play out from the back with some tempo but we lack a player in the middle to do that.

Surely a long ball to someone being a 50/50 can only pre-suppose that that person is already being marked. Not all passing the ball over distance is a hoof it and hope. In fact all i am seeing at teh moment are woefully poor players not retaining possession well enough, shifting the ball to the nearest bloke becuase the team don't seem to have a run in them until ultimately all we seem to do is hoof the ball upfield and hope someone gets it and holds it up. Broja must have thought what is this bollox throughout the Newcastle game

Of course it narrows down when under pressure. Short pass to either a defensive player or a dropping midfielder who is creating space behind Long pass as you say out of the danger zone in the hope that the forward retains possesion. A clip to the midfield or wings with receiving players having sufficent ability to be able to control the ball actively moving us forwards rather than negatively getting it under control and invariably going back the way we came. The fourth option is for yardage, where a clip to the wings is done flat enough to encourage a defender to commit but have sufficient quality for that defender to commit and put the ball into touch. The issue that we have is that our keepers, along with most others, struggle to make the correct choice when under pressure, mainly in our case, because insufficient optiosn are being made available by our outfield players. In fairness, whilst he may well bu88er it up when under pressure himself, Jorginho is a player that is always tryign to offer an option.
