Victor Osimhen

Could get on board with a loan with buy option. Think it still brings questions about playtime for Jackson etc but a test drive of supposedly one of the best strikers in Europe can’t be entirely bad.

Plus it’s about time the Italians got a taste of their own medicine with the amount of players they get on loan

That's a fantastic deal if we can pull that off

Depends how much we're paying for Osimhen. Anything more than £50m after the Lukaku deduction is a poor deal.

Depends how Osimhen does, if he doesn't perform and it's just an option to buy then we aren't stuck with him.

Update from Ben Jacobs:

Chelsea are in talks with Napoli over Victor Osimhen, whilst Romelu Lukaku has already agreed to a pay cut and a three-year contract to move to Naples.

#CFC don't want to pay the €120m+ release clause but are keen on Osimhen should the structure change or price drop. Loan with option has been discussed, as @David_Ornstein called. Also understand Napoli have raised a loan-option into an obligation should Chelsea qualify for #UCL.

Spoke about Osimhen yesterday on @LondonBluePod. Door not shut. Osimhen also impatient to move, which has caused Napoli to re-assess their position. Osimhen has agreed terms with PSG but is understood to be in favour of Chelsea should a club-to-club agreement be reached. PSG talks over a fee/structure haven't progressed to date. Saudi offer for Osimhen won't be made unless the Nigerian striker gives a green light after rejected three offers from Al-Hilal 12 months ago.

Napoli do not like the loan option for Victor Osimhen. As a baseline, they will work with £58 million plus Romelu Lukaku.

Loan that turns into obligation to buy if we qualify for UCL is interesting.

Can't see it. Napoli want the money now.

It’s a stupid deal IMO & our lot are just going for him to get Lukaku’s ridiculous wages off the books. The manager has said he is happy with Jackson & Guiu, so why risk upsetting the apple cart?

I rate Jackson more than most but another season relying on him as our #1 makes things more difficult. An elite striker almost guarantees Top 4 but then again this was under the assumption we'd continue with Poch and the momentum of last season's end.

I would be happy with all 3 as its going to be a long, congested season.

Napoli whispered to the Italian press that they were open to Osimhen possibly in the talks with Chelsea about Lukaku in an exchange type of deal.

Osimhen is not a priority for Chelsea - we have little room for manoeuvre in terms of salary burden.

Chelsea have  indicated that it would never pay the ‘release clause’, that coach Enzo Maresca prefers a different type of striker and that Victor’s injury past is disturbing.

It has been a long road. Do we want/need this striker?  We do need a striker and have done for some time. Jacko is great, but we need more. There are not a lot of top quality strikers available out there. Osimhen is a top quality striker apparently - but hasn't been tested outside of Serie A.

Do we need to spend a fortune on a striker who turns out to be a dud. Falcao, Lukaku, Torres, etc, etc. We have been here before. So many times.

Hopefully we shall pass - but then if we do and Arsenal get him and he turns out to be brilliant. . .

Are PSG out of the race for sure?

While the sums remain as they are, I suspect so.

So it is Chelsea and Arsenal in this race to sign Victor?  AND Arsenals need is not as great as ours. . . what is the current discounted price for Victor?

Is Osimhen an elite forward though? He has had only that one season, and it’s in Serie A. If the club wants to do something crazy in the market,Lautauro Martinez is the guy you pay stupid fees & wages for.

Something to ponder; he has been on the market since Conte walked through the door, how come the only offers are from Saudi & PSG?

The bolded one is a myth though; your PL list is 23 players. You can’t stick 3 No 9s on that list, and this whole idea of Jackson playing as a LW under Maresca is a non starter. What you risk doing by buying Osimhen is relegating Jackson to the bench, next summer he will demand a move and good luck getting £50m for him.  We also risk ruining Guiu’s career by throwing him out on loan. Something I don’t think anyone upstairs has remembered is we are only allowed 6 international loans, and you are just rolling the dice loaning him out to a PL team. No PL is going to start an 18yr old forward, and it will be ridiculous to send him to the championship.

Arteta doesn’t want him. If they were interested he would moved already.

People who think Jackson is a top striker and can lead the line next season are off their heads and have a very short memory of last season

Fair enough but Osimhen isn’t the answer. People are reading too much into 1 very good season in an average Serie A.

I would say Osimhen is a significantly better threat than Jackson inside the box, which was something we desperately needed last season. An aerial threat, fox in the box striker. Martinez isn't that and typically needs to play off another striker to succeed.

I would also assume the only offers for Osimhen being from Saudi and PSG may have something to do with his €120m release clause.

Maresca likes versatility in his attackers. Jackson at LW isn't something that can indefinitely be ruled out and from what we have seen last season it is more than a possibility. Nkunku is playing as a #8 this preseason for instance.

You are making it sound like relegating Jackson to the bench is a bad thing when in reality that is where he should be for a club trying to reach Champions League/League Title aspirations. I think many people like yourself fail to realize the season we are heading into the amount of football we are going to be playing. I see it being a case where we will be needing all 3 strikers if we want to go far in every competition.
