There should have been rumours until now if anything were to happen. I think PSG want to distance themselves from Hollywood signings unless Luis Campos asks for it. Nasser listens to him religiously these days.

its best to ignore them. If a fan isn't British their support of the club will never mean as much as a local fan. They're more like my mum being a fan of Eastenders than a loyal supporter that follows the club each week with football so engrained in local society.

As mentioned above, with Rogers' signing and Scott's bid rejected, along with reports this morning that we are going big for a central midfielder, it's looking like we are planning life without Enzo.

I like Alex Scott, but isn't he a bit similar to Enzo in terms of not adding that much steel in midfield? No matter what system Alonso chooses, be it 4231 or 343, it clearly will be one with a pivot of two number 8s so the player next to Caicedo must be something in the mould of Matic maybe? Both technical and strong. Lavia could be that and even more if the f**ker would stay fit for one minute...

I do like the read of Scott looking at his stats more, but he's just not progressive with the ball. He can win it, but doesn't do much with it. I don't know if that pairs well with Caicedo.

Not sure thats true, hes a dribbler and ball carrier, its pretty much his best trait.

I spent 4 months in South America and from my experience the Argies have nothing against English people whatsoever.

I played football with them twice a week too. The funny, placid Argentinians turned into animals as soon as the games kicked off.

It’s how they play. Anything to get under the skin of opponents.

I’m glad their brand of football didn’t end up winning the WC but it is effective. They need a cause to rally behind and it was always going to be the Falklands they used against England.

Spent a couple of weeks in Buenos Aires. Some of the best in my life. Don't think I will ever encounter anything better than Argentinian women anywhere in this world. If I ever get back single again, first thing I will do is book a flight there and completely lose it for a couple of weeks again 😂

Coming from someone who is actually married to an Argentine, they are very fond of Europeans. It's Chileans and Mexicans they don't like, which is a prolonged cultural thing. They do tend to see themselves above a lot of South American countries simply because they believe their way of life is better, IE more European.

They're notoriously passionate about football. More than any other country. For that reason, they've developed a crazy superiority complex as a fanbase. Which only further rubs other South American countries the wrong way.

I dont think anyone has argued England deserved to win, they didn't.

Argentina behaved like animals and the ref (as usual) allowed them to.

Two things can be true at once.

And "that's just the way they are" doesn't absolve them of the behaviour

Not a chance! And they distanced themselves from him earlier in the summer. If they sign a midfielder it will be Bouaddi. If you pay £120m for Enzo & stick him on £300k/w, he needs to be a starter. He won’t start in that PSG midfield, and Enrique wants players that will run all day.

While it would be better for us, and Alonsos preperations, for this to be done quickly, I'd not be surprised if Enzos situation goes to the end of the window, and we drop our price to make a move happen to either of the Madrid sides.

For whatever reason I like the idea of Wharton partnering Caicedo. He seems to have a good technical quality and we don't want to lose that and bring in a workhorse who can barley pass a ball, a mirror opposite to Enzos technical skill but slow motion plays.

Perhaps our interest in Scott is not as an Enzo replacement, but a Santos one. Maybe if Enzo goes we still go for someone like Wharton.

Agreed.

The capital is very European compared to any other S American city.

The women are very friendly in a good way but they would chop bo**ocks off if they feel slighted.

I went to quite a few games in S America.

Boca v River

Boca v Santos

Argentina v Chile

Flamengo v Fluminese

And Santos v Sao Paolo amongst others.

The crowds were absolutely wild especially in Argentina.

The Argentinians explained that Brazilians love playing football but the Argies love everything else. The politics, ultra firms, arguing about football are all heavily part of their football culture.

I'm not sure that it's a case of sour grapes at all. I think for the majority of us its the sheer gall of a group of pampered, entitled, mentally feeble twenty somethings using the fact that they are in the public gaze to broadcast a political statement that is both inflammatory and, to any of us around at the time, totally incorrect.

But once again these things get viewed only through one lens. Could we have seen the victorious England parading a banner of Colonel H Jones. Of course not. It would have been deemed distasteful, sadly most of the latest generation wouldn't even know who the fck he was but probably the main reason we wouldn't stoop to it, would be because it's got bugger all to do with football.

There are pricks at the top of the cultural tree in the UK and Argentina, for different reasons. We've both done sh*te things in history. We've both done some pretty cool things too.

In both cases, the actual general people are sound. And no one here really hates Argentinians, and no real Argentinians hate English people.
