March 3, 20233 yr As a Chelsea fan I hate the bloke after what he did to Paul Elliot it was assault no other word for it but I actually agree with Dean Saunders !!. @Sconnie Blue he could be talking about you mate 🤣
March 3, 20233 yr Tbf maybe if Saunders complicated his game a bit he wouldn't have got relegated 11 times.
March 3, 20233 yr Author Have you ever had a conversation and I am older then( 80 % of the posters on here) in the pub/ at the game and used words like deep block, pivot, transition !. The opposition's player is in space you shout close him down usually with an expletive chucked in not employ the high press lads 🤣. Football has always used weird terminology mainly started by Ron Atkinson such as lollipops, giving it the gun etc but the ones I hate most are not at the races which is idiotic and stepping up to the plate which should only apply to baseball but has found it's way into everyday parlance somehow.

It's never ending can't help yet think it is a way of weeding out unfavourable football pundits.

What makes me want to punch someone (not necessarily someone actually employed in football) is "wake-up call". WTF, do you think players do not immediately realise results are bad and they need a f**king loss to see that ? And like you mentioned, pivot, regista.... took me ages to even vaguely understand what a wingback is (although that might be just me). Edited March 3, 20233 yr by Valerie
March 3, 20233 yr Not a football term but a fan term, I maybe older now so I just don't get it. If i hear another fan say a certain player is gonna cook one more time... What's he gonna cook? Just say he's gonna play well and don't sound like a dumbass.
March 3, 20233 yr I'm not sure if high-press is just closing down, you can instruct your players to close down at different areas of the pitch, high-press is a particular thing at a particular part of the pitch that needs to be trained in order to work. Transition is a real term too, mainly used in basketball prior than in football, it means originally going from your end of the court to the opposition side and attack, after the opposition lost the ball so a fast transition or a good one leads to scoring... In football it doesn't just mean to "not to give the ball away" but more precisely to play out of your own half and come to the point where you are actually in the final third and attacking, or regaining possession and quickly organizing an attack. I get it I'm a weirdo that can focus too much on details and make a big thing out of nothing

March 3, 20233 yr Apparently some managers can get a tune out of a player. Others just lose the dressing room.
March 4, 20233 yr Some players used to be described as " pocket battleships" Players who had a " good engine " were called that usually.

March 4, 20233 yr Shall we try making up our own? Love Enzo Fernández - he's a real Fray Bentos of a midfielder.
March 4, 20233 yr I think some Sunday league parlance should be applied ’they don’t like it up em’ was a guarantee before every match
