Chelsea vs Servette (Conference League) Thursday 22nd Aug 24, 20:00 GMT

Featured Replies

A lot of negatives, but a couple of positives as well.
Jørgensen surprisingly looked good, Veiga  is fun, Guius press is incredible (awful miss though), Noni showed why he has to start going forward and we won, keeping a clean sheet. I also like that Maresca was ballsy enough to actually rotate - we will need the entire squad this season (the 23 one, not the 43!). Lots of earlier  Chelsea managers fail to do so out of fear.

Now. The performance was awful, there were some poor individual performances but what for me is the worst is how for every game we see, forcing out Chalobah/Gallagher for the likes of Disasi/Badiashile/KDH is just…. It makes me sick, honestly. Not only are they Cobham, they even are the superior players - and this is the way they’re treated. I have to get over it at some point, but its really hard. Unfortunately, it also makes it hard for me to connect with the players brought in or retained to replace them, especially when they are underperforming, unfair as that may be.

Of well, time is the best healer but judging by the atmosphere at SB in the first two games the disconnect is REAL. Quite worrying, I hope there’s a way to repair that

Thinking about the game last night and it was awful but, it was the second game of the season, so no need to panic and give Maresca a hard time just yet and, he played the B team, which I though would not beat a championship team. I’m not sure why he rotated so heavily when the first team players have only one game on their legs and they need to start gaining an understanding of the tactics. It’s also become clear that the second team is not good enough, and the board has accumulated a lot of not so good players that they’ll need to sell if they want us to compete in the PL and Europe.

Great to see the boys get a win, I'm a big fan of the competition and would love to see us win it as it is the only UEFA Competition we are missing.

I think the rotation was for a couple of reasons

1) Players still are no where close to PL match ready. They needed minutes in their legs

2) Some players are no where near ready to play two games in 3/4 days. Bear in mind we  will have or will play Sunday, Thursday, Sunday Thursday & Sunday leading up to the International break .

I liked the look of Jorgensen he seemed to know when playing the ball short was too risky and put his boot through the ball

The back 4 simply didn’t get any sort of cover from midfield some were  simply trying too hard to prove themselves I will put KDH in that number. Caicedo was far too exposed and it was abundantly clear he wasn’t getting verbal help meaning he sometimes took too long on the ball without realising he was about to be put under pressure.
Neto and Nkunku are a country mile from being match fit they will improve.
Mydryk needs a loan out to get his head in the game he would benefit from being taken out of the firing line as it were.Guiu is not ready for the PL covers a lot of ground and should of course scored but will be at most an sub this season for most PL games will play in games such as EFl cup etc. Madueke scored an excellent goal but he has so many flaws in his overall game I wonder if he is taking on board any advice .

Gusto isn’t close to being up to speed yet but Fernandez clearly made a difference when he came on but you can see the importance of Lavia to this system likewise Colwill, Cucerella and Fofana

You could see that Servette were far fitter match wise but they were well set up in an attempt to keep themselves in the tie going back to their place. They won’t play two sitting come next Thursday

This  was far more tricker tie than it should have been they for me would be certainly in the top half of the championship if they were an English team and as is witnessed time after time certainly in the early rounds of the EFL cup when PL clubs rotate massively they more often than not loose to clubs far lower in the pyramid . So would have been happier had it been a 3-0 I will take the result and move on

I hate being too negative against our own players, but sometimes mistakes are too much to accept in the game, especially if it can make the change to a win!

Sterling went down a lot in people’s estimations with some pretty bad misses last season which could’ve changed the game!

Last night, Marc’s open goal chance was inexcusable and players like that are definitely something we don’t need! We are a laughing stock to other clubs with the clown board already! I’d love for him to turn a corner as he had a decent enough blast in the friendlies! But, we really need a striker or just play the pants off of Jacko and give him confidence, but I don’t think he’s the answer really either!

I can’t see Oshimen coming to this circus and we haven’t had a reliable goal scoring striker since Costa!

so he should have only made 2 changes

And some of those aren’t ready to play at all

I liked the look of Jorgensen

and he should be number 1 BUT MARASCA says Sanchez will be in goal Sunday

The back 4

should never play together again, in fact 2 of those should never play for the club again

Gusto isn’t close to being up to speed yet but Fernandez clearly made a difference when he came on

i think he has found his level

It’s not being too negative. If we play against a team from a squad with a market value of 24m Euros shouldn’t we expect to win by a big margin? A 2-0 win with one being a penalty wasn’t very convincing and even though the players haven’t gelled as a team yet they should have done better.

We have had some great strikers over the years and there has definitely been a void since Costa. We haven’t even had a striker that could match Lampard’s numbers and it is so frustrating seeing all this money spent without the issue being addressed especially given the defensive frailties.

For me the talk about 4,99 is a bit silly. My subscription for Premier League is around 30 pounds a month. September Chelsea play 3 games so essentially I pay 10 pounds a match. There is tons of other crap with the subscription naturally but if I had the choice to only pay 4,99 per game for Chelsea per Chelsea game I would take that deal in a heartbeat.

Not sure how it is for you guys but for me this is 'cheap' and very convenient.

And if you go to the pub it is 10€ per beer. Chelsea game is about 3-6 pints. 30-60€.

If you go to the game at SB or away I can't even imagine how much that is.

The only problem with the Chelsea stream is its unreliability. Sometimes, after paying, the stream won't load. They already owe me a tenner. I imagine I'll be on the unsecured creditors list when things go belly up.

Oh, and Sam Parkin on co-comms is the other problem.
