With us playing them again away 3 days later in the League Cup I imagine Maresca has two lineups in mind for the double header.

My guesses would be:

League match

Sanchez

James

Fofana

Colwill

Cucurella

Caicedo

Lavia

Madueke

Palmer

Sancho

Jackson

League cup match:

Jorgensen

Gusto

Tosin

Badiashile

Cucurella

Caicedo

Enzo

Neto

Felix

Mudryk

Nkunku

A bit stronger than the conference league side, but still allowing several rests ahead of the game at OT.

Can’t understate how massive it is Cucu is back for this one. I think with how Newcastles full backs will like to get up the pitch playing Neto over Sancho for the pace advantage is a must. Would like to see Palmer out wide instead of Madueke as he’s more damaging there cutting in than he is in the middle.

There's definitely a case for both Neto and Madueke starting. Livramento and Hall struggled bad against Brighton's press.

CANNOT afford any passengers here.

Given both Neto and Noni prefer to play on the right side is there a case for Mudryk to be deployed off the back of his performance in Greece?

Fully agree with the line ups @axman2526 and @Jezq8 put forward.  Optimistic Cucurella has sufficient recovery as think he is very important.  To me, the difficult comes to selecting the bench - what a great problem to have with form and avaiability.

Starting XI
Sanchez
james fofana colwill cucurella
caicedo Lavia
madueke palmer sancho
jackson

Bench
Jorgensen, Gusto, Veiga, Badiashile, Enzo, Nkunku, Felix, Neto, Mudryk

Yes, Badiashile over Tosin.  Darwin Nunez seemed to make Badiashile mad, and when he plays with a little fire he's a much better player.  Also think Neto and Nkunku are knocking on the door for the forward positions.

Honestly from what I have seen so far Tosin seems like a below average defender that does not do anything particularly well.

If we don't win this I can see us falling off towards mid table, and you know Man Utd are getting a result against us. That 4-3 result was a fluke.

I think Nkunku will start. Taking him off after an hour on Thursday didn’t make much sense unless he starting tomorrow .

Lavia starts and I think we might mix up the A and B teams a bit.

4-1 Chelsea.

Fofana, James. Nkunku, Jackson

Who do you think Nkunku starts in place of? Sancho or Noni?

That you expectation for Newcastle today, then again in the League Cup, then our visit to OT?

I think both Neto and nkunku will either start or be first ones subbed on. I was surprised cucu wasn't rested towards the end of the midweek game to start today.

Who gets subbed off? That depends imho, havent seen Newcastle play recently but I guess whichever wing is not effective enough, but money is on the LW first.

Neto did enough for a start imho. Nkunku didn't, but I'm hoping it's just easing back from injury/slight niggle.

Must win.

Anything less would be a massive disappointment, Newcastle could well be a rival for one of European spots by end of the season.

I’d be tempted to give Mudryk a start.

Huge match for us, goes without saying.

Madueke must start here if you ask me and Palmer has to be in a good rhythm and for the midfield well let's hope it's Caicedo and Lavia since I wouldn't be confident of Enzo being there, Bruno and Tonali would find easy gaps.
