Rain man was good, but that was more down to Dustin Hoffmans acting rather than Tom Cruise.

Creepy scenes though, no jumpscares.

"Hush" I watched last and it was scary.

Cowboys and Aliens on Channel 4 the other night.  Very funny but played dead straight.  Excellent film.

Yeah, best film I have seen this year.

Some real Edgar Wright directorial moments too, specifically the shootout to musical beats which I loved.

I went to see wind river tonight, absolutely terrific film!

 

Jeremy Renner was immense thoughout and there were some really tense moments throughout (slightly ruined by the inconsiderate couple beside us rustling a bag throughout.

 

Still, a really suspense filled film with a really interesting plot. I might be biased as these kind of films are right up my street.

 

if you enjoyed the film 'The Frozen Ground' (another terrific film might I add) you'd love this! I'd highly recommend it!

I enjoyed Blade Runner 2049 - I know, I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but if you like sci-fi then you should enjoy the film

Thor: Ragnarok

Brilliant. Rib-tickling outrageous, well-paced, great soundtrack. An unexpected delight with great characters and one of the top three best Marvel films. A must if you're a superhero movie fan! It makes Thor 1 and 2 look incredibly pedestrian (and Thor 2 was a pile of sh*t to start with).

I've always thought that the high point of his acting career was Risky Business and that every attempt he has made to act thereafter has been akin to watching some athletic jock having a go in some 3rd rate school production. Killing Of A Sacred Deer is a very strange film. A weird, disturbing story but also darkly funny at times. I really liked it but I think a lot of people will find the deliberately clunky/wooden dialogue off-putting.

Murder on the Orient Express

Kenneth Branagh directs and stars in the adaptation of Agatha Christie's novel. There's an all-star cast including Judi Dench, Olivia Coleman, Michelle Pfeiffer, Penelope Cruz, Daisy Ridley, Willem Dafoe and Johnny Depp. An American businessman is murdered on the train and Poirot starts investigating the case whilst the train is stuck in the snowy mountains. 

Branagh is brilliant as Hercule Poirot, his Belgian accent perfect and his epic moustache almost deserving a screen-credit of its own. Some of the cast are under-used though (Dench, Coleman, Cruz) and the reveal could have been executed a bit better. But it keeps you guessing, it's funny in places and there are some beautiful shots on the snow. It's more of a Sunday afternoon telly watch rather than a full-blown cinema release, but it's worth the cinema entrance fee to see Branagh's performance alone.

BB - in two minds about seeing this: the reviews have not been good & one can only wonder why Branagh decided to take this on given that the '74 version (with Finney as Poirot) is an outstanding film & the Suchet version is just as good. Have you seen either of those previous versions BB?

I haven't, but from what I've gathered you probably wouldn't rate Branagh's version of Poirot as highly as Suchet or Finney- most websites seem to be in agreement that the other Poirots are superior. But as a role in itself Branagh's acting is top class.

Well well well! After the critical mauling BVS got in the press, I had high hopes they would take on the criticism and make JL a smash. Particularly after Patty Jenkins' wonderful Wonder Woman, which is far and away the best DC film to date, JL had to be good.

And was it? Zack Snyder dropped out of directing duties after the tragic death of his daughter, so Avengers supremo Joss Whedon was drafted in to do re-shoots and finish off the film. And it shows. The film is disjointed and the tone is jarring. However, seeing all the superheros on screen together is wonderful, the action sequences breathtaking and Ezra Miller's The Flash is a highlight of the film.

There is a lot of CGI in this film. LOADS of green screens too, and none of it looks good, which is baffling since this film had a budget of about $300 million! Steppenwolf as the villain is a CGI construct, mo-capped by Ciaran Hinds, but still looks sh*t. 

But, there are some truly jump out of your seat moments in this film, which I won't spoil. And there are jokes in this film, unlike the dour BvS. But is it better than BvS? Yes and no. The film feels rushed at times, since it is only 2 hours long. A lot of the scenes needed to breathe more. I'd love to see an extended cut on DVD.

Overall though, there is much to enjoy. Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck and Ezra Miller are standouts, the latter infusing many a scene with much-needed humour. Being a DC fan, it just left me wanting more.

Haven't seen a film for about 9 months yet went yesterday and saw Battle of the Sexes.

Wasn't quite sure what to expect yet enjoyed the film and found it to be an interesting story of women's tennis and the personal battles around it.

Liked the Steve Carell character and Emma Stone as Billie Jean King.

Didn't realise BJK was a social activist though this just focuses on the battle for equality in women's tennis.

I loved BvS. Infact I simply did not get the amount of criticism it got. Yes, the plot could have been better and Doomsday should have gotten more respect, but the I am honestly shocked that it was a poorly accepted movie.

The CGI and specially Henry's face just seemed weird in most scenes which is shocker since (as you pointed out), the film's budget was 300mil$. Steppenwolf makes Malekeith look like Heath Ledger. Atrocious CGI.

Ezra Miller (steals the show for me) specially the crazy scene when he taps into speed force (wink wink). Also felt fisher was quite good with the brooding cyborg still coming in terms with his "powers". Batfleck definitely kicked some asses.

It was the tone of it. Man of Steel- which I love- was a bit dour and so was BvS, which I like a lot. The press are heavily biased towards the jokey Marvel films, and just because there was no banter between the characters or witty asides- it was panned.

One thing I will say is BvS is a confusing film for those who haven't read the comics. The numerous dream sequences and flash-forwards are baffling for the average viewer who doesn't know about Darkseid, para demons, Gods Among Us comics etc. But for someone like me, I loved it. Especially the fight between the two of them- it was so cool and well-choreographed. And as for the Martha thing, I don't see why it's a big deal. It was necessary to the plot.

Wonder Woman was amazing, all of it- nuff said. 

Justice League is bit of mess, and that's all down to Joss Whedon and the sh*t CGI. And Paramount, for not allowing Henry Cavill to shave his moustache off for the re-shoots- 

Thank god for Ezra Miller and, again, Wonder Woman.

Suicide Squad 2 will bomb at the box office, Aquaman will just about break even, I think. So it's all up to Patty Jenkins and Wonder Woman II to save the DCEU once again!
