"Best DM I have seen in recent times"
Surely a wind up he's ok-ish I suppose but there are at least 25 other central defensively minded midfielders I would have over him

Matic is among them?

My Prediction for the end of the window:
Underlined = Homegrown
Bold = Predicated/Uncertain
Brackets = New Signing

GK: Thibaut, (Willy), Eduardo
LWB: Alonso, Kenedy
CB: Luiz, Cahill, Azpi, (Rudiger), Christensen
RWB: Moses, (New Wingback)
CM: Kante, Fabregas, (Bakayoko), Baker, (New Midfielder)
Wingers: Hazard, Pedro, Willian, Boga, Musonda
Strikers: (Morata), Batshuayi, Remy

Out: Ake, Traore, Atsu, Begovic, Terry, Chalobah, Cuadrado, Costa, Matic, Baba

If this is a reality then only one of our two possible new signings need to be homegrown.

There are 18 non-HG players in that squad, if I am not wrong.

Kenedy counts as U21 in the BPL so wouldn't count as non-homegrown

Rather go for Tousart than Can tbh

Every time I've watched him thought he was pretty sh*t lol
How come no big (scousers heads explode nationwide) teams are in for him?

Plus he can score incredible goals! All this plus the fact that he can also play as a defender makes him one of the best for me. I will be happy to have him here.

I'd prefer a master at one position than a jack of all trades to be honest. Can is mediocre at best. We have plenty of all rounders in the squad, we need specialists like Cesc and Kante.

Like you will easily pick Costa who can only play better as a center forward over a Sanchez who can play incredibly well anywhere in a front 3? Or you will easily pick Matic over a versatile Essien? Or you will pick Cahill over a versatile Azpilicueta?
Seems you have never watched match whereby all substitutions have been made and then a player gets sent off. Lol, Barcelona VS Chelsea springs into my mind. I wonder what the outcome of that game would have been if Ramires wasn't versatile to play as a Right Back for us!

I get what you are saying, but Matic, GC, Costa are no where near "masters".

I would take a DD over Sanchez, I would take a Maka over essien and I would take a JT over Azpi.

Just to be sure, every team needs a ramires or a park-ji-sung who can play multiple positions and provide cover when necessary but its players like Hazard/Cesc/Kante who are pivotal in definining the spine of the team.

This is a nonsensical argument, i'm literally scratching my head at it. Sanchez is a winger, who can back up as striker, so yes i'd sign him as a winger, because he is a world class winger, not as a midfielder/ wingback/ CAM/ striker. Essien was a box to box midfielder, that was his position, and he was the best in the world for several years. So yes, i'd sign him as a box-to box midfielder, not a CAM, CB, and left back. Azpilicueta is a better player in all of his positions than Cahill, so obviously i'd prefer him in my team.

I'm not getting into the 'ive watched more games than you' thing, as i'm not 8 years old. Versatile players are useful, i never debated that, in that rare occasion that someone gets sent off then great, they can swap positions. But there is no point signing a player who is just 'good' all over that park as opposed to someone who is great in one position. A player can only play in one position at one time, i'd rather they actually have a specified role rather than being seen as someone who fills in a vacant spot.

Well he only played 4 league games and he is only 19, so to draw a conclusion I think would be very short sighted...

I don't agree. I've made assessments in fewer games. Assessments which have proved to be accurate. In the cases of Carlton Cole, Jody Morris, Kakuta, Bamford, Sinclair, Feruz and others you won't have heard of unless you follow the youth team as closely as I do, I've made correct assessments in less than 20 minutes of watching them play live*. What's more, they were all 18 or younger at the time.

Never mind me however, what about you? You have made a judgement about Sanches at the 2016 Euros. How much did he play there? Not a lot more than 360 minutes I think.

...as for what supports him having world class potential I think is clear, he won a European title as a full first 11 player at 18 years old...

Proves nothing. In any case it depends on your definition of 'full'. He did not start all of the games, and did not finish all of those he did start. In the final, he really ought to have been subbed before he was.

...and won young player of the tournament...

You are right, we have discussed this before so you'll remember what I think of that award. I challenge people to view the all touches videos and then tell me they saw performances of high merit. It's opinion of course, but I think they'll struggle to make that claim honestly. Indeed I posted one such vid during that discussion and the first response came from someone who, I think, takes your view of Sanches. His comment was, wow, that video makes him look terrible. I'm not certain I remember the wording 100% accurately, but that was definitely the gist of it.

...to add to that he was bought by one of the biggest clubs on the planet at a very young age with the mind of playing first team football, so I that would suggest without doubt they felt he had world class potential...

Yes, you are right about this but Sanches comes under discussion in the Rumours section because of stories that Bayern are willing to part with him. I do not know that the story is true of course but, if it is, which would say more about the player; the fact that Bayern bought him in the first place, or that; having watched him up close for a season, they are ready to give up on him?

17 hours ago, DonAntonio said:

can you lose all that in one season?

No, you are right once more, you can't loose it like that. Before you can loose something however, you have to have had it in the first place. I say again I've seen no evidence of world class potential in this lad's actual performances. I'd go further and guess that, if people were watching him without knowledge of the hype created by the move to Bayern, fewer of them would now believe that they saw it either.

*To be fair, it is easier to spot a player who won't make it at a given level, than it is to pick out one who will.

In a perfect world,i think our formation requires 2 CMs who are equally very good at attacking and defending. Isnt that why Conte's top target was naingolan.

when I said that he can be used as a CAM or as a CB, I didnt mean to use him in those positions. I was just implying that he is very good in both attack and defense.

I'm wandering, and maybe someone on here can clarify this for me. But why isn't there a massive raid for RB Leipzig players ? I mean, the Bundesliga is a lot harder than Ligue 1 but Monaco is losing players at an unprecedented speed.
