I think we definitely need another midfielder. I really, really don’t want to see Gusto in midfield again and that’s a real possibility with James and Lavia’s injury record.

Wijnaldum, he’ll be fine for 1 season.

He is 35yr old playing in a high energy league. His legs were already gone by the time he was playing for Roma 4years ago. Just a waste of a squad spot.

If we end up with Wynaldum, Brozovic and Henderson as our core midfield these will have to become a core part of the kit

We messed up mate, did so well in all departments bar the question mark on the wing backs and in central midfield. All we have left is the free market now, and the hope we can get at least 4 good months out of whoever we can nab.

Maybe finding a player who complements Caicedo's game isn't as easy, or as cheap, as it sounds.

As good as Caicedo is at the things he does, the things he doesn't do happen to be among the rarest and most expensive qualities in a CM.

Nah its more about the position than the player. My frustration is they've had time to address a fairly important obvious weakness where we are short but could have acted sooner to fill it.

I assume its a position that Alonso wanted filled hence our scrambling around at the last minute with various names as mentioned.

No guarantees with anybody I suppose, don't really mind who we sign as long as its somebody that Alonso specifically thinks can bring something of value to his team.

This deal apparently is a no go but depending on their injury status, Zinchenko, Brozovic and Alaba would all be very good fits for Alonso's system.

My vote is Gini. Really liked watching him play for the dippers. I think he's got enough left in the tank to help out when needed.

Once upon a time they were highly rated and expensive but look at them now. Some are way way passed it, some are in denial with their current valuation, some are just damaged goods, some are just too much trouble for club to bother with.
