June 1, 201610 yr Latest from Italy is that Zlatan is considering a move to Napoli to replace the outgoing Higuain. It's just fantasy football but imagine Higuain and Griezmann upfront for CFC.
June 1, 201610 yr If fit arguably one of the best strikers a mid-level EPL side can hope for. We aren't a mid level club nor are we aspiring to be one. We can and will target and no doubt sign players of a higher calibre than Gyan.
June 1, 201610 yr We aren't a mid level club nor are we aspiring to be one. We can and will target and no doubt sign players of a higher calibre than Gyan. Really? You can do better? I'll just quote Messi: LIONEL MESSI: "Gyan is one of the greatest goal scorers I have ever seen." And yes: Until proven otherwise we are currently a mid level team. Same as Liverpool or Manchester United with the same expectations of greatness season after season. Meanwhile Tottenham and Leicester City have topped the league. And yes: Until proven otherwise we are currently a mid level team. Same as Liverpool or Manchester United with the same expectations of greatness season after season. Meanwhile Tottenham and Leicester City have topped the league. A football club of our stature and history of recent success is not a "mid level" team. One poor season does not change that. Whether you want to believe it or not we are one of the most desirable clubs in world football to play for. As for that random Messi quote, even if that is legitimate I'll leave you with a quote from Steven Gerrard about Joe Cole: 'Messi can do some amazing things,' 'But anything he can do Joe can do as well, if not better."
June 1, 201610 yr OK. By you misunderstood my point: Liverpool and Manchester United both used to be top clubs. They still have the names and the fan base, but they struggle to attract to players nowadays because more often than not they . All it took was one bad season and they don't look like perennial favorites anymore. Also the competition for the top 4 is even more intense then ever: Man United with Mourinho, West Ham wanting to compete, Leicester and Tottenham planning to stay put, Man City now reenforced with Pep and Liverpool just starting to look good under Klopp. Arsenal - say what you want about Wenger - always a top 4 club. The megaTV deal only makes matters worse, as the 'lesser' clubs will be competing for the same top players. Chelsea will have an uphill battle to break it into the top four again and top players will be aware of that. This will likely mean the Man City route and paying ridiculous sums to players. That or trusting the youth... Edited June 1, 201610 yr by Jon Stakes
June 1, 201610 yr Gyan? Seriously? Jesus and it's a wonder I can't take this guy seriously Edited June 1, 201610 yr by Bobbywoodhogan
June 1, 201610 yr Great, the daft statements about us signing no one /Crewe reserves/Pele and being left behind have started, 1st of June. Great. Gonna be a long few months. this is what i hate most every time transfer windows come up
June 2, 201610 yr Yes, let's sign Gyan, a player who wanted more money over football and made moves to the United Arab Emirates and China to get it. Why would anyone want to sign a player who cares more about the money in football than the football itself ? He's average at best anyway, i would much rather stick with what we have and promote a few young players before even thinking about going for Gyan.

That or trusting the youth... Your point is ridiculous Man U after 3 "bad" seasons will still be able to sign top talent, Liverpool after something like 10 mediocre season minus the one they came second have been able to sign top players. Chelsea are still one of the biggest clubs in the world despite 1 bad season, yes some players might want the challenge of playing in the Champions league and if they area already at huge clubs it might make the move less desirable, but surely the calibre of players we are still getting linked too with the players being some of the most desirable in the game (Pogba, Morata, Higuain, Lukaku etc) suggests your point is invalid. I would say that given our recent history we are still a more attractive club to move too than Arsenal, Tottenham and Leicester. Edited June 2, 201610 yr by PedroMendez
June 2, 201610 yr Your point is ridiculous Man U after 3 "bad" seasons will still be able to sign top talent, Liverpool after something like 10 mediocre season minus the one they came second have been able to sign top players. Not really. Or at least not much more top players than other EPL sides. ManUtd and Liverpool have a longer history so a larger fanbase and better pull, but EPL sides have been able to bring top talent to their club as well. surely the calibre of players we are still getting linked too with the players being some of the most desirable in the game (Pogba, Morata, Higuain, Lukaku etc) suggests your point is invalid. Being linked? If we sign any of those players (save for Lukaku who is not a top player, Morata might be tempted if he's guaranteed a chance at being a starter) I'll take it back. But obviously we won't. OK, maybe for some really silly money. Lukaku is not a player of the same credentials as Gyan. And mentioning Lukaku in the same sentence as Pogba, Higauin and Morata is very silly. I sometimes wonder if you guys even watch football... Yes, Gyan made a move for big money, but he's obviously one of the best strikers out there and a definite upgrade on everyone we have save for Costa. And good luck taking Pogba away from Real... They still have the names and the fan base, but they struggle to attract to players nowadays because more often than not they . All it took was one bad season and they don't look like perennial favorites anymore. So United didn't manage to sign the likes of Di Maria, Mata and Schweinsteiger without Champions League football? They haven't just signed on one of the biggest managers in world football? They are, like ourselves, not a mid level club. Liverpool haven't held elite status since Benetiz left and they sold off the likes of Alonso and Torres so it's not a like for like comparison. We've had our first truly bad season in over twenty years and yes I include our time before Roman bought the club and that's why the likes of Desailly, Deschamps (world cup winners) and George Weah chose to play for Chelsea. You couldn't be more wrong about thinking we aren't above "mid level" status and that there isn't going to be a whole host of top quality players who want to play for us, especially for a manager as well respected as Conte.

They are numberswise a club with a strong and tested following. Plus despite their troubles they are still top 5 (unlike Chelsea that finished 10th). Di Maria and Mata were not wanted by their respective clubs. Mata was basically pushed out of Chelsea. Nonetheless I can give you Di Maria. Schweinsteiger joined when Manchester were back among CL slots. As for Liverpool: Alonso joined Liverpool when they were a Champions League side and he only made a name for himself at Liverpool. Same with Torres. As it stands we do not guarantee CL football. That means we are where ManCity were a few years back - paying exorbitant prices for tested players. Its a question of how deep Abramowicz wants to dig into his pocket. Even then we won't be getting players like Pogba.

Its a question of how deep Abramowicz wants to dig into his pocket. Even then we won't be getting players like Pogba. Man city at that point had no history at the top of the game where as Chelsea are recent BPL champions and have won 2 European competitions in recent years the comparison is very off, but yes with the amount of money in football everyone will have to play inflated fees, but our pulling power isn't just because we have deep pockets we have been one of the strongest teams in the world over the last 10+ years and have a very strong worldwide fan base because of it, the fact that we sold more shirts this season than any other team round the world actually beating RM and Barcelona is testament to that. Again a bizarre point apart from a half decent International career (for an African nation so I am guessing his main credential being African) Gyan has been very average at club football and he wasn't even that good at Sunderland with only 10 BPL goals across a whole season he is also 30 so has no longevity or resale value. And to wonder whether people actually watch football because they can't follow a very average 30 year old footballer when he plays in leagues which aren't really relevant in China and the UAE just so he can earn more money is again ridiculous. You're argument has moved away from claiming we are a "mid level" club to now saying we have to pay premium prices and wages for top players... Which has always been true of the Roman era anyway. Basically, I don't understand what exactly you are trying to say about my club?
June 2, 201610 yr Seriously I hope all this rumours about Gyan and Kwadwo Asamoah coming here end soon because if Conte bring them here Emenalo will eventually take the blame as both players can't improve our team. If there is one African player that I will like us to be linked with right now, it has to be Aubameyang. Unfortunately it can't happen as we are not in the champions league and I don't think Conte likes playing two strikers.
June 2, 201610 yr Anyone else coming to the conclusion that Jon Stakes is either or troll or just not very smart? I liked his input on African players but it's all getting a bit out of hand now.
June 2, 201610 yr Gyan is one of the best strikers about? That's absolute mince, the guy hasn't done anything of note in years. He's been playing in joke leagues for joke clubs because he's a £ chasing mercenary. He wasn't even that good when he was last in England, the guys bang average at best.
June 2, 201610 yr Gyan is sh*t. If remy wasn't good enough to get regular minutes, why would gyan be any different, he is a much worse player. If we are looking for a striker to come in to back up Costa, he has to be better than remy or we may as well just stick with what we have.

Totally agree, I don't know how anybody can say Gyan is one of the best strikers around, that is just ridiculous. He then went on to say that Lukaku isn't in the same calibre..........if you had the chance to pick between Lukaku and Gyan, Lukaku would win every time. You would have to be incredibly bias to pick Gyan over Lukaku. Lukaku is 7 years younger and playing and scoring goals in the toughest league in football, Gyan has been playing pretty much all of his career in really poor leagues.
June 2, 201610 yr Anyone else coming to the conclusion that Jon Stakes is either or troll or just not very smart? I liked his input on African players but it's all getting a bit out of hand now. He just suggests African players over any other nationality no matter whether they're good or not. It's just annoying. It would be like me only suggesting English players. I wouldn't it cause I'm not f**king bias towards one nationality. Seems we have a few here like that.
June 2, 201610 yr My fanbase is growing :) Need to take a break from here. Once again Lionel Messi (quote from 90 Minutes Extra interview): "I might say that [Asamoah Gyan], he is one of the greatest goal scorers I have ever seen." Asamoah Gyan went for a big money deal just before he hit the prime of his career. So yeah. He went for the cash. Doesn't make him an average player. Greedy, but not average. As for Kwadwo Asamoah: Its not rumour. Chelsea launched a bid for 20 mln EUR as widely reported and confirmed in Italian press.
June 2, 201610 yr Just to summarise :) Official bids made: Kalidou Koulibaly (rejected) (btw people here seem to prefer Rudiger over Koulibaly... which is frankly ridiculous and tells me what you guys know) Kwadwo Asamoah (accepted) Rumoured interest: Andre Ayew Amadou Diawara Eric Bailly Out there rumours: Asamoah Gyan
June 2, 201610 yr Messi saying something does not in anyway make it right or more justified than someone else saying it. We all have our own eyes, we have all seen Gyan play in the EPL, World Cup and what not. It's clear he isn't good enough for Chelsea. He is a player who choose to move to obscurity and play alongside amateur footballer all in aid of making as much money as he could. His ambitions are not what a club like Chelsea want or need. There are many reason Gyan is not the best striker around, some mentioned above and no doubt others will highlight more. The Messi stuff is sheer desperation to make your point seem plausible when in reality we all know it simply isn’t.
June 2, 201610 yr Oh and there is no official bids made because it requires the club to confirm it to be classed as official so you are also wrong on that point too.
