Chelsea are set to offer Spanish full-backs Cesar Azpilicueta, 32, and Marcos Alonso, 31, plus £51m to beat Manchester United in the race to sign Barcelona's 25-year-old Netherlands midfielder Frenkie de Jong

Azpiliecueta, Alonso, Rudiger, Christensen.........so the plan is to play James, Chilwell, Silva and Chalobah in every game next season 😐

Seriously though, this is an incredibly risky move. We are losing more players than we are bringing in. Yes, we have a few loan players to fall back on, but from what I have seen, only Broja and Gallagher look ready to come in to this squad.

Christensen and Rudiger were allowed to leave on the FREE.  Alonso has been leaving us for a few years now. Dave wants to play some of his career in his native Spain. Alonso and Dave have only one year left so we will lose them on a FREE next summer.  Both too old to be offered long-term contracts, according to the old rules.

6 new players. so far we have one. Sterling.

Even if we signed no defenders Scott, so long as we switch to a back 4 TT can rotate in one good youth player to cover for one of those players most matches.

Chilwell---Maatsen

Silva----Colwill

Chalobah----Colwill

James---D.Sterling

Is it ideal no, but I think people would be surprised at the good level Maatsen, Sterling and Colwill are at.

That is genuinely horrific if we go into the season like that. Asking Tuchel to work miracles

We likely won't, but he is a top manager so am sure he would manage. You vastly underrated those players though, as good as anything in the league outside of Pool and City imo.

Colwill is 19. Not a minute of PL experience. Chalobah is good but that is it. No where near good enough to be a regular for a PL club aiming for top honors. Silva is almost 40 and Sterling is seriously awful going forward.

A headache of a back line to rely on.

James had no PL experience either, neither did Mount.

JT was nor a world beater at Chalos age either.

Silva will need rests agreed.

Paulo was hardly an amazing offensive fullback but in a back 4 it did not matter if Sterling and Maatsen are solid in a back 4 is all that matters, creating would be on Gallagher, Kovacic, Mount, Havertz, R.Sterling etc.

We're going to set up playing in a 2 Defender formation so we can rotate game to game.

We can't move to back 4. Not with this cb and certainly not with this midfield.

All this interesting talk about attackers but we have to have not just defender but classy defenders who can play 60 games a season without too many mistakes, starting to get worried as time keeps slipping into the future

James and Mount were clearly ready though, they were the talk of the Championship, everybody knew they would go to the top of game. Even when Mount was playing in Holland we knew we had a player. When they came into the team, their development was way ahead of Maatsen, Colwill and Sterling.

Terry was also way ahead of Chalobah at the same age. At the age of 23, he was already our vice-captain and broke into the England team to become a regular starter in Euro 2004. If Terry wasn't a world beater already by the end of Euro 2004, then he certainly was under Mourinho once the 2004-05 season started.

And how did they each get their chance? Faith from Ranieri in JT, faith in Mount and James by Lamps.

Colwill is at an age as JT was when he broke in to our side, and Colwill was very highly regarded in last seasons championship.

Gueri had no PL experience when we sold him to Palace too, he is doing pretty well.

I'm not saying we shouldn't give them a chance, but we should temper our expectations. If we need Colwill, Maatsen and Sterling to come into the squad this season, all at the same time, I can see us struggling. Silva, James and Chilwell will likely have periods out of the squad through injury and tiredness, I wouldn't like to fall back on rookies. It would expect us to drop points and potentially drop out of cup competitions.

To be fair that's the same with Colwill, and Broja and to a lesser extent Maatsen.

There's bids from premier league teams for all 3 apparently, so it's fair to think they are ready for the prem.

It think it depends on what do you mean by ready.

Was Mount and James ready to be no 1 option 3 years ago? Mount maybe but James no way.

As long as you think those 3 as rotational option then we will be more than fine but if they are expected to be the no 1 option then we are in trouble.

The most interesting is Borja.

Can Borja play in pl or even start in pl? Absolutely (he was stater for soton)

Can he play cf for Chelsea? Maybe. Can he play cf for Tuchel's Chelsea? This is a massive question mark, my opinion is no.

Colour me skeptical. There is a difference between the level to play in the premier  and  the level to playin the league winning team. And you may have to play double to get someone that is only a bit better. But that bit makes all the difference.

On what I saw of Broja last season he isn’t chelsea level yet (6 goals in 32 pl games last season). Tammy was 5 goals from 32 goals for Southampton. But it’s hard to tell Broja is more physical, quicker maybe but his touch is a bit agricultural for this level. Least in what I’ve seen.

I haven’t seen Colwill but it’s an incredible ask to get someone that’s never played pl to step in a make one of the best teams better. It just ain’t gunna happen like that.

I would look at Chalobah, who played Ligue 1 before breaking into our first team, which you could argue is less physical than the Championship

i would give him a chance

We would not to rotate the main options sensibly and hope for no serious injuries.

One game rest Chilwell, another Silva, another James etc, that way you bring in one youngster with the others being experienced.

Robert Lewandowski is reportedly willing to move to Chelsea if 'Lona cannot agree a deal.

Lewa is a great player. He is 34 in September though. . .

At least he's not 37 !

Would help us tremendously the next 1-2 years minimum.

had a laugh at the kante to arsenal rumour

they are so delusional

also he doesn't speak Portuguese so wouldn't fit their transfer strategy of buying lightweight Portuguese speaking players
