May 19May 19 Seeing a few rumours flying about we're after Mika Godts from Aj@x. Another 20 year old (so much for experienced). However looking at his highlights which I know can be misleading he looks like a gem of a player. Young doesn't always mean bad just that we've bought that many young 'potential' wingers its now hard to justify taking a risk on someone like this.

However the jump from Eredivise is a big one as we have seen on multiple occasions. Also, which system does Alonso want to play? If he is going for the 3-4-3 he has favored for most of his managerial career, then how does Godts fit into that? Could he play in the left half space or as a wing back? Or is he mainly a traditional winger? Many things have to be considered here, before we just buy another player, because he might be worth more in the future, than he is right now.Alonso is already signed on as the manager, so I just hope they consult with him, before spending any more of our tranfser budget than they already did (Barco, Emegha) on "players with potential, who might help us in the future and if not, could probably be sold for a profit". We already have loads of those. We need a few players who can help us RIGHT NOW. The squad is way too bloated already. Edited May 19May 19 by True Blue23

The squad is way too bloated already.Alonso only played a 343 at Bayer because he had very good wingbacks (one of which is showing right now why he played wingback and not RB) and a bunch of #10s and not traditional wingers. At Real, he was much more flexible with the players at his disposal. He played a 4231/442 primarily. Godts is definitely a signing I would've gotten on board with if our LW situation was already solved and we didn't already have Gittens.
May 19May 19 Reminder: When are we selling players for profit? This is a big misconception. We are buying HIGH and selling if we can.
May 19May 19 We are being linked with Karim Adeyemi again? Is he an Alonso type of player? Personally i would pass.

May 19May 19 Should be all over this if Cucurella leaves. I’d like Doue from Strasbourg, then we’d be set at fullback for the next decade.

Think he will be initially used in a LWB role till he is experienced enough and moved into the middle.
May 19May 19 “Chelsea have focused on signing young players but are keen to add more experience. Their interest in Jarrod Bowen is not at an advanced stage but they believe he could offer competition on the right and potentially provide cover for their strikers.”He is a mid table flat track bully. Plays on the RW, you would hope the remember they have a Brazilian wonderkid who needs game time.

On the left we only have Neto (on his weaker side), Gittens and Garnacho...
May 20May 20 Jarrod Bowen [29] being linked to Chelsea, Liverpool and United.i would say no. We do not need to sign An above average and past his prime right winger - that is NOt what we need. Edited May 20May 20 by TheCeleryKing
May 20May 20 Transfer rumours are a bit moot right now given The Athletic reported Alonso will have final say?Surely the directors weren't lying......

Fat chance anyway given that his family is Newcastle was a big factor in the move anyway.
May 20May 20 This was the worry. That these "experienced, PL-proven" players we ere going to look at, would just be average mid-table players, like Tosin all over again.

Harvey Elliott for one could do well in an Alonso system. Whilst Brandt is about to leave Dortmund on a free, lots of experience there. Edited May 20May 20 by bisright1

I'm not sure why he desperately wanted to leave for Newcastle to then wanting to leave them. Unless it's Newcastle that needs selling for economic reasons. Very bizarre situation for them.

Very bizarre situation for them. Two reasons why he left: (1) He felt he wasn't getting first team opportunities and he fancied himself as a midfielder, the position he mainly played coming up through the age groups. He had a few games at LB but showed frailties, probably understandable given his youth. He has grown immeasurably at Newcastle. Howe didn't toss him straight into the deep end, spent quite some time on the bench and learning the trade.(2) His family have always been Newcastle so the move seemed obvious to him. There is no evidence that he wants to leave Newcastle. Just internet speculation. Ditto their need to sell.

As you say, it's probably just speculation, although it has been mentioned that Newcastle needs to sell to avoid FFP (or whatever) problems (though, I'm not sure if this is real).

Allowed by the PL, not by UEFA, though they're not in Europe so that's less of a problem for now. They picked up £125m selling Isak to Liverpool but spent around £230m on Woltemade, Wissa, Elanga and Ramsey to no great effect. Their own worst enemies. Time will tell.
May 20May 20 The Pedros. Barcelona hovering around our players - Jaoa Pedro and Pedro Neto - i hate Barcelona. They cannot afford to buy the players, they are just being disruptive. Edited May 20May 20 by TheCeleryKing
May 20May 20 Brentford agreeing a deal for Said El Mala. Thank goodness. Fair to say any players we were linked with are put on hold until Alonso gets in. Least that's what I am hoping.
