December 29, 201411 yr This poster (Tommy Docherty, Lofty etc) has been banned and has rejoined as incroyable How nice of you to let people know. And in your very first post too. The first since this one, that is.
December 30, 201411 yr The final scoreboard against our local rivals in October 1983 at Craven Cottage! I'm in there somewhere great day Pat Nevin's debut i think
December 30, 201411 yr I'm in there somewhere great day Pat Nevin's debut i think Me too. Epic game. Gordon Davies got a hattrick for them. Here's the highlights:
December 30, 201411 yr Yep, remember that game, was in the Riverside stand. Loads of Chelsea everywhere. Not often someone scores a hat trick and ends up in the losing side
December 31, 201411 yr Need to catch up. Saw 'The Cat' when he briefly played for Dundee Utd in 1979/80. Great to see one of my heroes playing.
December 31, 201411 yr 1970 FA Cup Celebrations on the streets of London! This was a massive moment in our club's history and a big reason and catalyst for my support for the club after so many years.
December 31, 201411 yr All those people and not a safety barrier in sight. If that was now the health and safety executive would be having kittens. Ps bet the old cafe on the left did a roaring trade that day
December 31, 201411 yr They're holding up the ECWC aren't they? Yes. I was there, my parents took me out of school for the afternoon, we stood by the town hall.
December 31, 201411 yr Almost brought a tear to my eye seeing the old souvenir shop. I bought so much stuff there especially as a kid. Mind you the last thing i remember buying there was a video of the 88-89 season which was in a plain white video box and wrapped in a brown paper bag. I was getting so many dodgy looks on the tube home i stuffed it into my jacket.
December 31, 201411 yr Used to buy loads of stuff in that little shop. Remember the old guy running it getting the shirts down in packets from the shelves behind the counter. Much more character than the megastore.
December 31, 201411 yr Did they used to sell Subbuteo in there or am I getting confused with the toy shop nearby? The the boxes were behind the counter on the right.
December 31, 201411 yr Did they used to sell Subbuteo in there or am I getting confused with the toy shop nearby? The the boxes were behind the counter on the right. Yep, sounds right..
December 31, 201411 yr Got a white with blue neck collar away top there from I'm guessing the 80-81 there, pllus a lambs wool navy blue v neck chelsea jumper with splendid embroided chelsea badge. Around that time- my last year at school- nearly everyone had Chelsea, Arsenal West Ham sweaters, better quality than the stuff the megastores now churn out. That sports shop on the top of the Arndale in Wandsworth was good for badges and patches and the like too. Me and me brothers all got Chelsea Mirrors for Xmas presents once. Mines still hanging proudly in the downstairs bathroom!
January 1, 201511 yr Did they used to sell Subbuteo in there or am I getting confused with the toy shop nearby? The the boxes were behind the counter on the right. Living in vanston place at the time mum was a regular in there if I'd behaved at school and birthdays etc happy days.
January 1, 201511 yr On Christmas day 1937 it was fog that hung over football. The game between Chelsea and Charlton at Stamford Bridge went ahead, and both sides scored a goal, but in the second half the fog thickened and Charlton keeper Sam Bartram began to lose sight of his team-mates.'We were on top at this time and i saw fewer and fewer figures as we attacked steadely' he remembers in his autobiography. Bartrap paced up and down his goal-line, assuming that his side has the opposition pinned in their own half. After several lonely minutes, a figure emerged from the fog. "What on earth are you doing here?" enquired a policeman. "The game was stopped a quarter of an hour ago. The field is completely empty!" "When i groped my way to the dressing room," wrote Bartram, "the rest of the Charlton team, already out of the bath and in their civvies, were convulsed of laugther."
January 3, 201511 yr A half three kick off in February without floodlights too. Did the spectators have to bring candles?
January 4, 201511 yr A half three kick off in February without floodlights too. Did the spectators have to bring candles?fork handles!!
January 6, 201511 yr 85,000 Attendance. Amazing any of those wartime cup finals ever got played when you consider the risks from the Luftwaffer, plus V1 and V2 Rockets later on.
