The lad pictured from Blackpool could that be Dave Beatty? i've met him a few times but now he's in his 50s & got no hair, i'm 41 so in 81 would have only been 11, but have met the likes of PF/DB ect in recent years.

When i saw ‘ chelsea lad from Blackpool ‘ in that photo the name dave Beaty came to my mind straight away . Once saw him neck two bottles of daddies Brown sauce in a hotel one in one sitting ,straight after each other .

 

also recall when we was at man city one Sunday we Stayed in Blackpool on the saturday night and he was stood at the bar in a packed pub while some local lass got his oldman out and  knoshed him off .

Remember the NF boys selling copies of Bulldog between FB station and the ground. Never quite got that as a couple of the lads who hung around with us worked in North End rd market and were Jewish, but always got well “involved” at WHL

I remember when the Bulldog used to be sold outside the Bridge. Often the vendors would be respectable looking  types which was at odds with how the far right was often depicted. I am sure there are better qualified people than me to comment but during the 80s I remember a few black lads involved in the scene and when it kicked off some who had sung racist songs would then be fighting side by side with game black Chelsea lads. One particular event stands out for me mid 80s when Cardiff were escorted back to Paddington and Chelsea steamed into them with a few black lads leading the charge. Cardiff kind of scattered and I remember one white lad who earlier been chanting ‘who do we want ... (you know the rest)’ shaking hands with a black lad saying fair play mate. Appreciate this is not a political forum but I never got into that far right stuff and many times benefited from having black Chelsea lads next to me when it mattered.

I think the reason why the bulldog NF paper did so well on sales outside FB on match days was mostly down to the back page ,which allways had a League table of football hooligans with the top 5/6 teams listed .

1.....chelsea 

2.....Leeds 

3.....newcastle 

4.....carisle   was the four of the teams that was in that list all the time .chelsea was allways at the top i recall ,the list was made from hooligan point of view from my memory . Thats why so many bought the paper

I remember that league table, seems funny now looking back, even the tabloids had a go at replicating it.

The above photo shows Tom Woodward going down for Bolton, watched closely by John Harris of Chelsea in August 1946 at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea would run out 4 – 3 winners.

With the Football League restarting for the first time in seven years due to the Second World War, especially large crowds are drawn out for Chelsea’s first league match against Bolton, 1946

 

The above match on 31st August 1946 was a historic one.     It was the first League match since Sept 1939, when World War Two was declared and the rest of the 1939/40 season was stopped.

 Football had been reorganised into regional Leagues during that conflict.

For the record,  we won 4-3 in front of an official attendance of 62,850.   Who certainly got their money’s worth.

In my opinion fans only started taking a few more numbers once the Chelsea part of the Northstand was shut. The top teams would always bring numbers but I suppose looking back it was a dodgy place for away fans. At 3.15 or so when all of a sudden a group of fans appeared singing for the away team we all knew in the Shed who it was.

Yes for sure big teams like mancs ,lpool ,big London clubs allways had a good turnout at SB ,its the lower down. teams that iam thinking about .

that play off at Blackburn ,i recall after the game and walking back to Blackburn station and i was been asked by a some Blackburn shirters how safe it would be at SB for the next leg for them etc etc . I told them they should be OK so long they did not drink to close to SB and went into the ground under Police escort . I never thought there would be any issues with the Blackburn fans at SB and thats after i had been chased down a hill by a local Blackburn council estate that day .

How wrong was i when hoards of chelsea was climbing into the  Blackburn end at SB for payback after Blackburn had attacked chelsea after the game .

 

recall two  Work mates from Barnsley  ( normall fans ) going to a cfc v Barnsley div 2 game and i was in West stand for that game . They asked me to meet them outside away end enterance so they could Get back to kings X safely .

barnsley won the game 1-3 i think ,but since Barnsley had won they was well stressed up when i meet them and looked pretified of walking out onto Fulham Road to FB . It was quite a small following from Barnsley that day . 
 

when i think about it 3 Northern monkeys walking down Fulham Road towards FB after the game does sound iffy at the most ,but my two mates did not say a single Word untill after we changed tubes at earls Court  then the fcukers would not shut up .They said that during the game they could not enjoy the Barnsley goals due to the thought of getting out after the game > i guess thats what a reputation does to the normall fans back then .
