This was my first ever trip out of donny without my mum/dad as guidance and it was to the smoke .

look how soft I was when my plan was to walk from KingsX to upton park ,I just did not have a scobby how big London was .

i did not even tell may parents that I was going down to the west ham v chelsea game as no right parent would have let a 14 year old from donny go down to London on their todd with a mate i guess .

when I got back to school on the Monday and showed the match programme to class mates and told them all about the FV I was billy big bollocks for the week . I even begged robbed borrowed enough money to buy one of those west ham green flying jackets from millets or was it the famous army store ,that’s the impression what that day > game > St. George’s market left on me .

This is a question to likes of FL ,The rising sun and Mr swan > Stockport > is there a connection with cfc and the town of Stockport ?

Reason why ask this is I was at a Stockport county v doncaster division 4 game in 1988 and the away end was packed .iam stood at the back when Iam watching some lads climbing over the wall from the street outside the ground and into the rovers fans .

No alarm bells was ringing within me or any donny fans that saw this round me ,I guess we all just thought it was donny fans climbing into the ground ,think there was about 10 or so lads getting in over the wall .

They then stood there  and started to sing 10men went to mow > I thought that’s facking odd as it was only chelsea fans that sang that song for sure > I think even some of the donny fans joined in but only a few if you get the picture > I could not laughing >

when it got to the end of the song this small group of jibbers did not shout doncaster or even Stockport > they ended it with a CHELSEA CHELSEA CHELSEA and all hell was let loose .

i just stood back open mouthed trying to figure out what I was watching and for sure did not get involved in the punch up for obvious reasons . The police stepped in and escorted this group of Stockport /chelsea out of the away end.

i know that chelsea have stayed in Stockport before in a pub before a game  or games in Manchester and this is way before a chap from chelsea Sutton  who’s name sounds like he is from a graveyard moved upto Stockport About 10 years back .

there is a name running throu my head but I could be way off ,any help thanks in advance

Dunno mate, but I'll tell you one thing, the best video of Doncaster ever is the " Doncaster warehouse rave" about 1993 from Mick Marshall I think.  Classic !

Fcuk me doncaster warehouse aka B Y O as in Bring Your Own > it did not have a liquor licence so if you wanted that type of thing you could B Y O leave at a counter after you paid to get in and go back to drink it > I don’t ever recall seeing anyone walking round with a can of beer in there at all >

all the pubs in town and a Friday/ Saturday nite woukd stop serving and kick you out by 23:30 back then > this London bus would drive round donny town center and you would all just jump onto it from the back and when it was rammed it would drive you across the north bridge and drop you off at the warehouse > then it drive back into town and repeat .

the place was always rammed from my memory > I recall a donnywhite getting married one Saturday and his wedding reception was at donny rugby club we all ended up at the B Y O warehouse and even his bride still in her white massive wedding dress was going with the flow .

it was bloody hot in there and they used to come round with free ice pops from what I recall ,once you got in life just changed and everyone was dropping a pil or tablet of sorts > night clubs woukd kick out at 03:00 while the warehouse was still buzzing untill silly o’clock Sunday morning.

thanks for the serious flash back

Interesting story, not sure mate. Back in the day when the Cockney Reds were a force Chelsea had a big following of Midland and Northern supporters. Have to say though there was a period when other teams sang one man went to ... I believe Motherwell sing it now. The obvious question to ask is what accents did those lads who got kicked out have?

I know Aberdeen do they also sing a version of carefree they say standfree. Some football songs different clubs have different versions but I have to say both carefree and one man are uniquely Chelsea and just don't sound right other fans singing them. Also some clubs have adopted One Step Beyond again a uniquely Chelsea song with Suggs being a Chelsea boy. And of course West Brom trying to claim the Liquidator even though on the sleeve notes it thanks everyone at Chelsea for making it a hit.

I took them all as locals fella ,the game been a nite time fixture gives it been all locals mr strength aswell I guess + they looked northern monkeys > just as manhole loved to stress me been a northern monkey .

other teams did chant one man went to mow for sure ,but they would end the chant in their teams name not C H E L S E A .

i have said that I know chelsea fans have used a pub in Stockport pre games in Manchester ,so must have a connection to that area since said landlord looked after the chelsea lot very very well .

talking about chelsea lads at other teams > I recall when darlington came into donny many many terms back and we was  having running battles with them throu the town center > and darlos main face that day was Carlo aka Carlo from Dario which some chelsea in the same mindset will know of him > he made a lasting impression with the donny lot as they named him egg on legs due to his shape .

I know that there is a good  following of chelsea lads from Peterborough area as I recall seeing a small group of chelsea chaps from wrexham ,who got a good beating when we played oldham away division 2 one bonfire night > saw them on oldham station and they had had blood / snot kicked out of them after going throu a local estate back to the station > one had even pissed his bleached jeans during the kicking .

there was a group of chelsea from hull ,who with me ended up on cleethorpes station after a game at grimsby ,and sh*t loads of grimsby was getting the better of us .

i recall seeing a chelsea chap from Liverpool named scouser at division 2 games ,this was a strange one for me to take onboard as lpool was top dogs back then on the pitch ,and this scouse chelsea fan was turning up at the odd away game .

there was a van full from donny going down to every home game ,they was normall fans and I only went with then once due to lack of money for a cfc v mboro in div2.

99% of the non Home Counties / London chelsea that I always ran into enroute was on the east coast main line trains to and from the smoke .

when I did get down to SB I was always drinking in the Adelaide pub pre match > boz, tinker, ranford, bovver, big andy, geordie knights ( never fully understood the geordie part ),fat neck , ginger ( doncaster ) , Matt, tomato brothers ,pimlico Steve ,glen ( he never touched the drink ) boxer ,tombs, budgie, manhole, chipper R.I.P ,worzzel R.I.P and there is a few a just can’t recall .

If the east coast main line was full of chelsea on whatever Saturday ,I take it that rail tracks from all over the corners of the UK we’re taking chaps to SB and still do .

Motherwell > I was at a Motherwell v Celtic game with some donnylads due to a connection with Saturday service/Tufty club in the late 1980s when paisley shirts were in > meet a Motherwell lad who was from paisley in Glasgow and he was a scary chap for sure > he was chelsea mad and more than mad for it .

game got called off frozen pitch > so Saturday service / ddr went i to Glasgow and had a punch up with Celtic outside one of their pubs > they all loved us Motherwell as even the locals  ( non football ) would shake our hands .
