got a one-year extension (confirmed on official site) so i assume we're not looking for a better back-up to cech now cos they won't sell turnbull as he's english and helps with euro quota...looks like we'll have to pray cech stays fit again

Hilario is as good a second choice as any on his day, but I haven't seen him play in about a year so I can't say for certain if he's as good as he was previously. He's certainly better than Turnbull...

Yawn, when will this guy ever get any respect. He's been here for more than five years now and I reckon people have said we should have sold him in every one of those years.

I have no issues with him being around, he's a solid backup keeper, who from what I've read gets along well with the staff and is close with Petr. We could do far worse. Good servant and I hope he gets the oppurtunity to do his badges and stay with the club.

When he had a little run in the team he played okay.. maybe repayment for loyalty or he is going to do his coaching badges or something , wouldnt be a bad thing. He must have some value to the club they are pretty ruthless if they want rid of someone

He played when Man City ripped us apart 4-2.

we defended poorly in the second half of that match, the defence was at fualt for most of they're goals, we cant judge him on a game where the whole team decided to come out in the second half and play like a pub team.

p.s he played against barcelona when we beat them 1-0 through a superb drogba goal and kept us in the game, but he is definately not worthy of a place in our perfect squad (Sarcastic emoticon goes here)

Good 2nd or3rd choice keeper, would expect to see Turnbull leave now as I always though one of them would go.

He's a good head to have around the club and may go into coaching. Don't think it is a bad decision by the club

I agree with this.

I also seem to recall that we were down to nine men by the end, with Belletti being sent off for a Barry dive in the box as well as Ballack seeing red too.

I have no real problem with Hilario...but I just feel that a 36 year old who barely made the bench last season, and who takes up a foreign spot in the squad probably didn't need to have his contract renewed.

I wonder if the fact Delac got no game time while out on loan could have something to do with it. He will obviously need to go on loan again, hopefully somewhere that will actually use him so we can get a good look at him. A one year contract would give him time to play then return for next season.

for 2 yyears he would be good untiil he went upstairs, especially as were sorta going through a transition period, so when we go to CL matches with a few youngsters, he is ideal to give advice help them relax etc. I reckon hell go into coaching by the time all the restrictions are in place and well have a english back up keeper imo

Absolutely spot on!!!

Have some of you lot watched him play?

Great at stopping shots absolutely crap at position and not too good at crosses. Worries the hell out of me whenever he plays.

sorry we havent got rid of him and replaced him with casillas amART.

why not?

Because its terrible that Roman hasnt went out and spent at least £30m per player and created a squad of 25 world class internationals, who would obviously all be chuffed to bits to be squad players.......

I seriously believe some fans think like that you know. Hilario is as good a 2nd/3rd choice keeper as there is around. Another 1 year contract while hopefully Delac goes out on loan and actually plays this time makes sense to me.

I second that.

I agree that he has done a good job in most instances when he has been called upon. But I'd like to think that if we could retain Delac and play him in the Carling/ FA Cup (initial rounds) that would test him and give him the exposure that we expected him to get at Vitesse.
