We have crucial players out for the final, to be fair no one expected us to even get here. That makes us even hungrier for the final,

who can we get to fill those spaces and win against the other semi finalists?

Cech

Bosingwa-Cahill?-Luiz?-Cole

Mikel-Essien

Kalou/Sturridge-Lampard-Mata

Drogba

This looks like a decent guess at the lineup if Cahill and Luiz are healthy.

If they are not healthy... Well, I don't even want to think about that at the moment.

maybe play essien as a cb? he may struggle against the height of gomez but not like bosingwa will do better . . . thats if one of luiz and cahill is not fit

it may come to that, hes ok for a backup player but CL final. never.

He was more than good enough for the Benfica first leg. I think Boss should get the nod, but if, heaven forbid we get another injury before the final I'm not nervous with Paolo coming in.

If we have a couple of CB injuries and we're relying on Hutch to come in and cover - THEN I'm nervous (I jest, I'm aware that he probably isn't even in the CL squad).

Decent looking side, though see how Paulo does fitness wise as it is likely him vs Boswinga so long as Cahill and Luiz are fit (bubble wrap them Robbie!)

Essien or Romeu alongside Mikel, or Lamps with us using Mata in the middle and 2 from the 4 of Torres, Sturridge, Kalu and Malouda wide.

At this time I do not know who is best, but if we can get the REAL Bison back...

It really leaves us weakened. Ivan has been one of our best players this season, JT is our leader (even if he did a very stupid thing today) and that leaves us with only two other CB's - both of whom are injured. Hopefully they will be fit for the final. Luiz and Cahill can do a good job together.

Meireles hasn't been that great, but with Ramires - who has been absolutely amazing this season - out we could have done with Meireles as his replacement. Instead we might have Lampard, Essien and Mikel. Not bad, but not great either.

If we play 4-3-3 I would not object to having Mata at midfield. Give him some space to create things and also to run at the defence like Ramires does.

I hope the rest of the squad stays fit for the final so that we atleast have some to chose from. Then we'll see who we will face there, because I think we might use different tactics on different opponents.

Midfield is the issue, not defence, I'm confident Luiz and Cahill will be ready.

Whatever way you look at it our midfield is going to be pedestrian and lacking pace and verve.

Agree. We can plug players in to the defence that will do a job for us, the midfield has lost a lot of its energy/legs - losing Rambo is a HUGE blow.

But f**k it, we werent even supposed to beat Barca/get to the final so the belief is there.

IMPORTANTLY and thank God our most creative players (Lamps, Mata and Drogs) are still available, we will need plenty of running/defending from the replacements of Iva, JT, Rambo and Raul.

The answer is 8-0-2 and longballs to the front. Who needs a midfield anyway? ;)

In all the excitement last night I didn't actually see what Ivan and Ramires picked up yellow cards for. JT and Miereles were fair enough but what were the others for and any chance we might be able to appeal? (think I already know the answer to that).

Honestly, I am not even worried, I've that much confidence in me at the moment.

Cech

Bosingwa-Cahill?-Luiz?-Cole

Mikel-Essien

Kalou/Sturridge-Lampard-Mata

Drogba

That team is capable of winning it.

I'd even consider Torres on the wing

Cech

Boss Cahil Luiz Cole

Lampard Mikel

Kalou Mata Torres

Drogba

Turnbull, Ferriera, Bertrand, Essien Romeu, Malouda Sturridge, (Maybe even Lukaku)

If I had to rate them in order of importance to the team it would be;

1. Ramires - we simply have no other player like him. A player who can run all day, tackle like a demon and is the only one we have who is prepared to pick up the ball and run at the opposition. Plus, when he gets a chance he is capable of a finish. A huge loss and a player we cannot directly replace.

2. Ivan - Mr Dependable, Mr Versatile. He is a million times more consistent and solid at full-back than Boswinga and he gives us so much, both attacking and defensively, from an aerial viewpoint. Our defense will be weaker without him in it.

3. JT - Still can't believe what he did last night. The red card was deserved and pleased to see that he has changed his original denial and publically apologised for his moment of madness. But with everything he has done on the pitch for us in the past, surely there cannot be a single person who doesn't feel for him missing the biggest game of his career? We will miss his leadership in the final but the emergence of Gary Cahill means we have a very similar style player, who is prepared to put his body on the line and throw himself at anything. Also, one advantage he has over JT is he has a bit more pace.

4. Mary Ellis - He has nuisance value with the "hassle" he gives opposition players in possession, and he pops up with the odd goal. But he gives tha ball away far to often for my liking and wouldn't make my starting XI. The fact he is not available for the final doesn't seriously weaken us IMO.

I'm still furious with John Terry, I honestly thought he had blown it for us.

But to be fair to the rest of them, that could have lifted them a bit.

Honestly, I would just like to see us win it once in my lifetime, anything else after that is a bonus, I can

die a happy man.

I've got that sick/excited feeling already.

I think they both may have been for disent Nibs

Did you see how Petr guided Terry out when he'd taken the red card? When Cech came there JT instantly calmed down enough and walked out. Cech had obviously seen it and he obviously is kept in high regard among his teammates and people listen to him. Why not. He is the best goal keeper in the universe, bar none!!!

Ramires and Ivanovic are naturally huge misses as is JT but we have able players in reserves. Essien and Romeu. Paulo can do a job. He was cool as hell in the last match he played. Was it Napoli?

Jeff Shreeves = Buzzkill in his post match interviews.....Poor old Branna I don't even think he realised he wouldn't be playing in the final until Shreeves broke it to him...

Yeah, both were for dissent. Stupid rule though, missing a final due 2 bookings over 4 matches is harsh, especially when its so easy to pick up a yellow in modern football.

Posted

I think the biggest miss is Ramires, his energy is utterly astounding and we certainly wouldn't be in the final without him.

Saying that, I think JT, Ivanovic and even Miereles will all be huge losses of course, but if we can get past Barcelona without any of our main three centre backs and 10 men - we can surely take on whoever we may meet in the final.

Posted

I imagine we might try our luck at an appeal over some of them, we've got nothing to lose. Ramires is going to be the biggest miss, we don't have any else with his energy and pace unless Essien somehow turns back the clock for one night and forgets all his injuries.
