Does it hurt as much now?

I just want to touch on something jut said elsewhere, be it in jest or tongue-in-cheek, it got me thinking - now we've won the Champions League... has all the previous hurt simply eased? We've had a lot to contend with:

The horror/plane crash of Monoco in 2004

Luis Garcia's goal in 2005

The apathetic performance (IMO) against Barcelona in 2006

The penalties against Liverpool in 2007 (after being 1-sodding-0 up after the first leg!!)

JT's slip in 2008

Tom Henning Ovrebo in 2009

Inter Milan in 2010

Getting comfortably beaten by Man Utd in 2011

Since 19.05.2012; can you look back on those games with slightly less anger than you did previously? Can you stomach the highlights? Personally I still can't watch the 2008 game  but I've watched the Inter, Barca and United (bar 2008 obv!) games and found it quite therapeutic... like... they happened for a reason. All that hurt, all that pain, all that believing we would never win it... just made when we did win it that much more special. It's like I've accepted the past and I'm not longer bitter or think the footballing Gods are against us. Just me?

PS- I watched the Barcelona/Munich 2012 highlights after those

Had we not won the CL this year, and battled past Barca along the way, I don't think the pain from 2009 would ever be eased for me, I don't usually get angry after a football game, sure things can be frustrating, but I was absolutely f**king fuming for weeks after that game.

But hey, we did it, and suddenly 2009 doesn't feel so bad :)

/blows raspberries at Barcelona - we did it, the fair way!

It must've been the use of simply that made me read it as erased. Mea culpa. Yeah, it's definitely been eased - winning anything will do that for you. When you have 0 titles and you feel like you should have at least one, if not two, then it's just unbearable. Now that we have won, I'm a bit more at ease with the past and concerned about adding more in the future.

It certainly has eased it, but the pain of games like the 08 final or 09 semis won't ever go away.

In my opinion, two of those games in your list don't really bring me any pain, the Inter one and last year's ManU. We just weren't good enough and the games were never that close (if I remember correctly), so I don't think about those ones in the same vein as most of the others.

They have ALL been eased but I still cannot watch the game against United in 2008, just remember being so upset that night that I can't put myself through it again. Usually after watching the game against Barca in 09, I switch straight away to watching the game against them this year and getting deep satisfaction out of it!

Reading the list of games there all of them got me pretty shaken until the Man U game in 2011. I genuinely just couldn't remember it, I had to google it to remember, it was weird. I apparently had erased that game from memory. That was such a poor CL run in general, really.

I'll never forget instances like the ghost goal, 2008 and Ovrebo, but the pain definitely has eased.

Most if not all of those have been eased simply due to time. Time heals all wounds, yes?

However, for me it doesn't make it better at all. I still look at those games with as much anger or sadness as I would if it had been today and we didn't become Kings of Europe. Why? Nothing has changed.

JT's slip in Moscow when he hit the post is still gut wrenching. Orvebo's refereeing (a term I'm using very loosely) is still one of the worst I've ever seen. The list goes on and on. Now let's add the media and how they continuously are on us for one thing or another. Our victory in Munich wasn't glorious it was a robbery, blah, blah, blah.

No, the win doesn't give me any more ease, only time has.

But to be fair, I'm normally a feisty individual anyway. :blush2:

The only ones that still hurt is the JT slip (so close yet....) and Ovrebo's performances (simply robbed).

The Garcia ghost goal, well....we all know that had the goal not been given we should have had a red card and Pen against us.

The Monaco game - The tinkerman lost it that night, but it is possible we would not have got Jose had we progressed and won.

Inter, Barca + Utd all outplayed us and we didnt deserve to win.

The penalties from Moscow, I've only ever seem them once, and that was during the game itself, I've not watched them since, nor do I intend to.

But it doesn't annoy me as much anymore, we got the cup in the end.

Agreed could never bring myself to watct the 2008 Cup Final.

That's a fair assessment, and just about sums up my feelings of them games.

I'll never get over Ovrebogate...just because it was the most baffling officiating I have ever seen.

Terry's slip feels like a healing wound though. It would have been perfect if he had played and had a stormer, but winning on penalties certainly lays that demon to rest.

Every time I've seen JT's slip replayed not through choice its always brought a tear to my eye. That was a very very sad night.

Ovrebo well he will always be one of the biggest enemies of this club after only 90 minutes to do with us. That was horrible the injustice was f**king outrageous. I've watched the penalty appeals a few times before and that is when Drogba made himself an icon in my eyes, the passion he showed for the club proved exactly what he is. I didn't see him at all in the wrong and Hiddink in the interview after agreed.

It hasn't eased the pain but we certainly have something to throw back in the bar stewards faces whoever mention any of them again cause we are the f**king Champions of Europe
