Firstly this is by no mean an attempt to have a bash at Robbie I'll never forget what he did for us last season as long as I live. I'm gonna say this regardless. It seems to me he's very robotic in his press conferences always saying ' the right thing' repetetive and a tad boring , I would've liked to of heard a more enthusiastic manager considering our recent glory and the new signings. It's all a bit predictable tbh. The guy sounds like he came back from a funeral every time his mouth opens.

Comments on Sky Sports this morning. They reckon Robbie has told Chelsea fans not to expect free flowing football this season. Are you serious ? Come on what a thing to say one day before man city. Obviously the players won't gel overnight and obviously not everyone's had the same amount of training how many times do we need to hear this broken record through a monotone lifeless Italian accent . Chelsea are no Barca ? What kind of headlines are these. Those of you who have supported the club pre abrom days will know Chelsea were always a free flowing passing team. It's a philosophy Ruud encouraged and it feels like people around the world are being misled with what our playing style actually is.

I don't mean to sound harsh but judging his mannerisms and comments it seems to me he doesnt know what to expect from Chelsea in these opening games. He says what's safe to cover himself. Not enough training no time to gell players late back from Olympics well focus only as far as the next game. Expect to hear this tommorow evening regardless of the result.

Come out of the shell Robbie Roman wont sack you for showing some personality once in a while.

So long as we do the business on the park, I couldn't give a rat's arse what he says.

I hear you there but when comments are implying our business on the park isnt gonna be free flowing its got everything to do with our football and I def give a rats arse about that.

I've been vocal about not wanting RDM in charge, but he has a point here, anybody who is expecting us to start playing amazing football from day 1 is deluded, all he's saying is to not expect too much too soon, there are all new young players who need to gel together before we can even think about playing like Barca. Would you rather him say "we are going to be the best footballing side in the world straight away" before all of our new players have even played together?

I'm siding with Robbie here, he isn't saying we are going to be playing like we did in the CL, but just don't expect miracles immediately.

I'm not exactly sure what your problem is. Press conferences must be the worst part of a manager's job, and they're all saying what is expected of them, and most will play down expectations. Who cares how Robbie talks, who cares what he says. Nor is what Sky Sports "reckons" extremely interesting.

Forget about the circus that is the British football press, and let's give our lads and the new season a chance before you start bashing Robbie or the players. Despite your intention not to bash, you did just that. I'm surprised you didn't criticise his hairstyle or dress sense, because that's about as relevant to how we play football as his press conferences.

Are some people underestimating the difficulties of being articulate and charismatic in a foreign language? How many of us would shine in a press conference in Italian?

I don't remember anyone worrying about what Robbie was saying as we were on the way to becoming EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS. How about we wait until the first match has been played before we start picking at Robbie D and the job he's doing.

I don't think it's an issue of language barrier. Robbie's been in England since '96 and speaks fluent English. I just think his press conferences are rather dry. I think I'd prefer a dry press conference to an AVB special, aka alternating between trying to prove to everyone how droll you are and how you won't accept the media's bullsh*t. Or perhaps I should clarify that I prefer that approach for our manager. It'll be entertaining as hell to watch AVB face the media after a tough Spurs loss (and there will surely be many of those).

Of course, I fail to see the problem with being dry in press conferences. Who can doubt his personality or emotional investment in the club after seeing the way he couldn't contain his emotion after beating Napoli and Barca or the way in which he ambushed half the team with hugs (and a kiss for Drogs) in München?

You would shine anywhere.

None of these people have the panache of Carlo Ancelotti, who could stir more hearts with one lofted eyebrow than AVB could with a whole half season of squatting and wild gesticulation on the touchline.

The issue is nothing to do with him being foreign or being able to be articulate I'm talking about personality. And BTW I'm mixed race born in Britain and speak 3 foreign languages fluently including Italian so I don't underestimate anything. Also others saying press conf have no relevance, my issue is with the content of his comments not British media or sky sports. His comments portray his way of thinking which has to do with everything as a manager .He has to transfer his ideas into the way we perform. So for example if he's saying Chelsea are not going to be playing free flowing football fair enough they need time but the impression I got was that he was talking about in general as if that isn't his style.

Seriously this is a forum isnt it ? If I think he's a bit dull and depressing when he's talking about one of the most exciting projects in football at the moment that's just my opinion.

Don't know if it really matters, I'd rather have a manager who is subdued in press conferences and does well for us (RDM) Rather than a manager who talks a good game but doesn't produce the results (avb). Don't think its overly important.

AVB talked a good game? All he did was repeat words like "motivational", "philosophy", "human" and "emotional" again and again in a monotone voice.

I agree I'm not convinced by RDM and his interviews! Yes they must be the worst part of a managers job and I actually think he is very clever with his little jokes and the way he teases the press! However, to sign a set of young attacking players and have no big striker who is going to drag your team through the dirt then I can't see how he thinks relying on last years team and tactics will produce the results. The very nature of winning is based on scoring goals and without creative attacking football nando and studge are going to struggle as they are not the kind of strikers who can pull it out the bag week in week out

He used the same approach last season and we won the double. I'm all for it. If you heard his post-match reaction to the Champions League win, you would see his true personality. Great guy. He's just being professional and if you think he's bad, look at Manchini. He says "We will be lucky to be 4th this season". What kind of PL Champions say that?? All these strategies are designed to help keep media pressure of the players and the team.

Am I the only one actually liking RDM's subdued and calm exterior. Haven't seen his latest interview but how you described him sounds exactly like Robbie...

Not sure what that't got to do with his interview style, however, there is attacking football and there is Barcelona's attacking football and if you do not have Messi, Iniesta, Xavi and Co you will not be playing Barcelona attacking football.

You're absolutely right. And because it's a forum, people respond to your post. And most of them don't agree with you. This "just my opinion" thing works both ways.
