AFC Chelsea ?

Featured Replies

Would it ever happen ?

Are we getting close to that point ?

What do you guys think ?

If it did happen, what would be your attitude towards it ?

I understand emotions are running high right now and there's a bit of anti-Abramovich feeling, but when the dust has settled, will that ill-feeling still remain, have people become progressively dismayed at the way he runs the club, regardless of success, sufficiently so, and if not, is there a tipping point, and what could that tipping point be ?

And if it ever happened, do you think it could ever overtake Chelsea in your affection ?

I would be manager of course, that goes without saying.

Torres can be the tea lady.

NO!

You stick with your club through thick and thin.

I shan't be running away at the first sign of trouble, I'm sure Portsmouth, QPR and Leeds fans would kill to be in

this position (though Leeds and QPR fans would probably deny that).

Having said that, if any of my Chelsea supporting mates decided to follow another Chelsea FC, I'd try and be as understanding

as possible, even though it would hurt like hell inside.

I don't think there is going to be much taste for it.

this will pass- eventually- especially if benitez wins the title OR a manager the fans actually want is hired in the summer. in either case at least 75% of the support will be... if not "accepting" of how robbie has been treated, they'll take the hit like we did with jose and carlo and butch. as time passes it will viewed in the wider context of the positive things abramovich has done (which are many).

as much as we are all angry now time will 'heal' things before this would become something enough people will seriously consider.

the disenfranchised supporters... I think more people would have left during the bates years (added with the subsequent rise of sky sports and the premiership). and because those people sort of left in a trickle rather than at once in response to one big event I think forming a new club would be problematic because their reasons would be varied.

I think the club will outlast abramovich's ownership and when he leaves he'll leave the club as one of the 10 or so biggest financial powers in the world game. with the pseudo hegemonic structures of uefa and the premier league that will leave us in a strong position for years, so the club will retain the vast majority of its support (which will in fact surely continue to grow).

I think people who will leave are people who either are or will be disenfranchised with everything associated with 'modern football'. flash twats earning millions, ticket prices, customer culture, the corporate business trappings etc. I think that is a bigger reason than roman abramovich ever could be.

and the thing is, younger supporters, like myself, only recognise chelsea (or football even) first hand in this context. if we look at my generation of supporters and the ones that will follow, this is what we'll experience. and grassroots clubs emerging as offshoots will probably become less likely if anything. globalisation and increasing media attention is changing what it is to support a football club.

I remember the first time that I heard somebody put forth the idea of an AFC Chelsea years ago. Back then, the primary issue seemed to be the transformation of English football from a game for the working class with affordable tickets and a more intense atmosphere to the corporate, globalized and sanitized theatre that it was evolving into. I understood the complaints but I had difficulty relating to them because a) I was born in 1987 and b) my family was quite wealthy. I suppose that owners like Roman are a microcosm of that shift in culture, so in that sense the displeasure with the current status quo is something of a continuation of the original complaint rather than a new issue. It's much easier for me to empathize with the current displeasure because I remember Chelsea before Roman, but it's still the same club that I've supported since I was introduced to English football and for that reason, I'm opposed to a split. That doesn't mean I'm happy with Roman's actions and I'm decidedly uneasy about what the future holds, but this will always be my club. There can't be two Chelseas.

AFC Wimbledon was created out of necessity really since the vast majority of Wimbledon fans (quite rightly) refused to follow the franchise once Winkelman moved it to Milton Keynes. FC United was formed under much less drastic conditions. I think a group of Man United fans were just fed up with the corporate direction the club had taken. Most FC United fans still look for Man United results though. Unlike AFC Wimbledon fans who refuse to recognize MK Dons.

There are a lot of angry Chelsea fans right now and understandably so. But I think we still have a way to go before something like this becomes a necessity. If anything happens it would be more like an FC United situation where the fans who start it are just disillusioned with the modern game and want to go back to basics.

An insane suggestion !

This is really getting beyond a joke - has RDM suddenly become bigger than Chelsea ?

We have been through the Mears East Stand years and Batesy's Bridge battle years, the sacking of Gullit and Jose.

I never heard ( when I raised concern ) anyone moaning when Romans millions helped Jose win us his first title.

Roman is no plastic owner - he is a ruthless yet caring Chelsea fan.

He has had success chopping and changing managers mid season and it works for him,

Robbie is a legend and a millionaire to boot ROMAN GAVE him a chance - he had absolutely no credentials to be a manager !!!!!

I love Robbie and what he has done for Chelsea and I was as gutted as anyone when he was sacked but I stress less than Jose and there was less fuss then !

Stupid suggestion, Chelsea FC always and forever.

Abondon it if you like but I certainly won't be.

Some people need to get a grip. This is starting to get blown massively out of proportion and is anywhere near the worst thing a club has ever had to face. Calls for new clubs, getting rid our owner etc makes us look like spoilt imbeciles, fans of clubs with real problems must be looking on with disgust.

As a Rangera fan it really is laughable to an extent because I'd have given my left arm for an owner who actually invested and strived to build the brand and name of the club.

What that team hit was an owner who wanted to asset strip and line his own pockets which saw the club facing liquidation an forming a Newco company.

I wouldn't wish it on any club and certainly not my Chelsea!

This is getting ridiculous, get on with it and get behind the team!

Managers will come and go, the club will always be there and without Roman we would never have won the stuff we have.

No manager or player will be bigger then the club itself.

Don't be silly all we want to.do is make roman listen to the fans. A good protest today get the message across and hope Roman listens about time he does. No fans no club.

G3.7 has said it exactly how it is in his post and obviously there won't be many fans even contemplating anything like this.

That said though and with other peoples views that nobody complained when Roman came and spent his money getting us started on the road we are now on (Star I think and this isn't a dig at that true statemnt) Id'd like to say speaking only for my self, yeah I was happy he chose to chuck a lot of money our way, not grateful but happy...see gratitude for me because someone can afford to do something every one of us fans would do if we had a quarter of his money really doesn't seem logical and regardless of how huge his expediture is, he can well afford it...its like me spending too much on gadgets or Cars or playing golf too often but on a huge scale and with a huge ego boost that gos with owning a Club like Chelsea.

I must say also for me the distain in which I hold Abramovic has had a cumaltive effect, the start of which (again for me) was the unceremonius sacking of Claudio, the way it was handled...the dead man walking, I thought he deserved better and went on through the sacking of Jose, the stupid choice of managers then again the sackings when though stupid choices they had done ok concidering they were bad choices, The sacking of a double winning manager and now the sacking of a legend at the club who had been given a great chance and I almost was grateful to Roman for that and was young enough and had shown enough to be given the time to take this squad through the transition its going through and should have been helped and not hindered by interferance on the striker selection front.

Adding to that the last and biggest kick in the nuts of appointing FSW in his place and in the knowledge he didn't even really want him.

As I say, glad when he started his spending but for me after these trophy filled years and looking back at the ups and downs, I'd take the way it used to be.

Just like to add, the people saying stupid suggestion? Davey wasn't suggesting it he was just putting it out there for discussion, I'm sure hes not saying it would be a good idea.

Just because a manager you don't like has come in you would consider abandoning your club? I've heard some sh*t from you but this takes it to new levels. if you really are this against what has happened why don't you get yourself down the training ground or the bridge and make yourself heard? I wouldn't agree with you doing this but it is certainly better than hearing you constantly moan on here everyday. You sound like you need to see a doctor or something!

Absolutely no need for this at all, pretty much for the reasons others have said. No man will ever be more important than the club or the fans. The way Robbie was treated by the club was horrendous but eventually we will have to move on. Lets all just hope for a win against City this afternoon!

If you're directing this at me, read what I wrote.

I haven't abandoned this forum and I have to read the drivel you type so it would take a lot more than a dislike of the owner and Coach to abandon the Club.

I assumed he was directing it at DB (can't cope with men who call themselves babies - sorry, Davey) and didn't bother to point out that it was just a suggestion for discussion because you had already pointed that out.

But NO to the suggestion.

Thanks Chippy, exactly right. I do think there is a growing discomfort amongst some fans at what is happening at Chelsea and the way the club is run, as I've said, regardless of all the trophies, and a degree of trust has been broken, and I think this appointment more than any other (and this sacking, coming as it did in November) has tainted Abramovich in some eyes, and should things continue along this path, i.e. a breaking of trust, I think more and more fans may feel totally disenfranchised with "their" club. Put it this way, this gives a different slant on the recent CPO controversy, where the club in effect asked the fans to trust them, saying they would not move beyond 3 miles before 2020, but offering no guarantees thereafter. It was also shown that shares were bought with the precise intention of swinging the vote. Many people said trust the club, would they still say the same now, and are they grateful the CPO voted against, given recent events? I don't believe the club want to move further than Earl's Court or Battersea, but if that couldn't be achieved, would they move further afield, for the sake of business and competing at the top level, to a place that just wouldn't sit right with most Chelsea fans? How much do the fans think Roman can be trusted now, and if that trust were to be eroded further, at what point would a breakaway club become a little more plausible? Roman seems to want success at any price. Personally, I don't think the fans do. Some things are far more important, such as our identity.

Why would I be directing it at you? Was clear for most to see that it was aimed at the person who made the post so pipe down!

And yes I know it was just a suggestion but I still think even suggesting it is beyond stupid!
