September 3, 201312 yr Was that needed? I don't conform to his opinion, ergo I must be retarded. I'll step in line and bash the board even though reports say he was willing to go on loan. Stupid board. Edited September 3, 201312 yr by Stim
September 3, 201312 yr Playing time? Development? He is still young. He isn't stupid, he knows he isn't good enough to lead the line. when he comes back he'll only have two years left on his contract. it's been a monumental waste of almost 20 million quid.
September 3, 201312 yr A terrible decision that just falls short of the one to buy Torres. A decision that makes out squad poorer. A decision that makes you think what's the point.
September 3, 201312 yr Well if you think about it Lukaku was 3rd choice behind Eto'o and Torres. At Everton he is probably behind Jelavic but that's it. He'll bang in the goals and come back to replace Eto'o after the season. Lot better for him.
September 3, 201312 yr Playing time? Development? He is still young. He isn't stupid, he knows he isn't good enough to lead the line. /cue torres bashing but w/e. He'll never be ready to lead the line unless he gets time with the midfield on the pitch and gels with them. You can't expect a striker to start banging in the goals when he's had negligible game time. We've seen players with not even half the talent of Lukaku playing and winning titles at Man Utd because they are given a chance and the club shows confidence in them. Yet the club show more confidence in a 32 year old washed up striker looking for a last big paycheck with zero future value over a talented young player who showed last season that he is good enough to lead the line, time is all he required.
September 3, 201312 yr Undecided on this one. Part of me thinks that it might be good, get him another season of playing every week, Eto's is the short term option for one year and then Lukaku will be ready to go. The other half of me thinks a club like Chelsea plays a lot of games, we could easily afford to keep him and play him once a week. If Eto'o doesn't settle and play well from day one then again we've got ourselves 3 mis-firing strikers.
September 3, 201312 yr I think there's been a massive overreaction on here about Lukaku going out on loan again. I don't agree that he was the difference in our title challenge as I felt we always needed to get in that quality forward and we didn't get that. But I'm not writing off Eto'o before he's even put on a shirt and kicked a ball, infact I think he might surprise a few.
September 3, 201312 yr I`m not happy he has gone on loan, though it does make some sense for his career. Jose was hardly likely to risk playing a raw young player in his first months back when he has 3 experienced internationals on the bench, and remember Lukaku rarely even started for West Brom. So as dissapointed as I am to see him go on loan, I hope he gets a lot of game time at Everton and returns to lead the line for us next season. Time will tell how this goes.
September 3, 201312 yr That's where I am too. I know we have to trust Mourinho and I want him to be here for the long haul and hopefully really build something but already a few of his decisions have me more than a little concerned. Seems we didn't want Ba to go to Arsenal as they are deemed to be a rival (although maybe the figure wasn't right too) but we're quite happy to strengthen Liverpool by letting them have Moses. Just doesn't make sence. And now sending Lukaku out on loan after what was said during pre-season and when every one is raving about the lad. I'm lost for words. Are Liverpool going to be the team to beat this year? No. They've started well and might finally challenge for the top 4 again, but as far as a title challenge goes they aren't our main rivals, and while I despise Liverpool, Moses can't play against us and if he helps Liverpool win some points against United or City then it may have been worth it, considering he would have gotten pretty much no time here. As for Lukaku I think most of us still just don't know how ready he is and how good Eto'o will be. Jose's been left in a tricky situation in that we have a striker that is useless but we can't shift on (Torres) so he's an automatic back-up, and he probably didn't want Lukaku to be a 3rd choice all year so we're stuck with this.
September 3, 201312 yr this reminds me of studge big time. he said in a recent interview for liverpool that when he played for us he played with too much expectation , i really hope that this is not the same for rom. absolutely gutted about the decision. we'll just play the one up front and more emphasis on the midfield creativity. the thing is we have so many young players that are out on loan and not given a chance here. how will we ever know if they're any good if their not given a chance here?!

Well that expectation has been taken away from Lukaku with this loan, surely.
September 3, 201312 yr ARGHHHHHHH is nobody else remotely concerned at the duration of the lads contract? when he returns he'll only have two years left on his deal. he could tell us to go f**k ourselves.. the two year cutoff point is absolutely crucial. we could potentially lose a quality player who we have paid 20 odd million for and who has just been farmed out to other clubs with no benefit to cfc.

You might well be right but I wouldn't dismiss them quite so easliy as that. It's a well used joke about Liverpool's fans expectations every season and how that evaporates come November but I look at their squad and Rodgers has made some very shrewd signings. Their squad looks a lot more balanced and In Suarez and Sturridge they have better strikers than we currently do (that really hurts to type that). I will take great delight if we see them struggle again but I actually have my doubts this time around and think they could be a challenger - more so than Utd anyway. In my opinion they lack the depth to carry this out over the rest of the season. Also let's not forget they really didn't play that well against Stoke, I think they'll drop a lot of points against weaker teams that they struggle to break down. Henderson and Aspas both look quite underwhelming so far.
September 3, 201312 yr Have no problem with this one to be honest. Was a little suprised when I first heard it, but it does make sense when you think about it. He's still very raw and imo not ready to be leading the line week in week out, which is what he needs for his development.

September 3, 201312 yr If Jose thinks Torres is more capable of leading the line in the EPL he is in for the same disappointment that Carlo; AvB; RdM and the FSW ran into. Well at least I will get to watch a lot more Lukaku this season - since he will be an unquestionable first choice at Everton in no time, expect him to outscore Ba & Torres's combined tally in the EPL by a fair margin. I can see this going the way of Sturridge, Lukalu will be sold at some point and go on to be one of the best strikers in the world, Its quite baffeling that we have Ba, Torres who look very weak they get man handle by defenders and does nothing to link the mid with forward line. Then we have young guy who most defenders in league were not looking forward to see play in a chelsea shirt leave as they know they would have a nightmare against him. Utd arsenal city must have big smile on there face as BA, Torres pose no attacking threat and Eto cant judge him yet. Edited September 3, 201312 yr by Brutos

You do realise he can sign a new contract with us while out on loan, or the summer he returns. The 2 seasons thing means very little at the moment.
September 3, 201312 yr It's the belt and braces approach of Chelsea that gets on my tits, sure the lad is a "work in progress", but being around and learning from the talent we've got must be far better than being at Everton. Nor can I see that Everton have guaranteed to play the lad so in fact he could get splinters up there and I for one reckon he would be better off sitting on our bench getting 10-15 minutes each week and playing cup games. As for Torres perhaps he will score 15 goals but against who, Swindon, Brentford or Charlton? And Ba has never looked a shoe in with us. Of course, maybe Jose realises his own limitations and believes that Martínez is far better than him at developing youth and should therefore do the job for him. (Warning the last sentence contained sarcasm)
