Lukaku to Everton

Featured Replies

If Lukaku does go surely there cannot be any joy in this for any Chelsea fan? It will mean without doubt Torres is staying.

This all seems like another Sturridge scenario and we all know how that turned out.

Spot on just and this is why Im annoyed. If we bring in another back up striker and manage to offload Torres I wont sweat it, but that doesnt look like happening

Not too disappointed as long as it means we're bringing in a top striker to play alongside/rotate with Costa.

Let's face it Lukaku is nowhere near good enough to be our second striker. And first choice at Everton is perfect for him.

Right decision for both parties.

My evertonian mate reckons it's a £30m fee, with 5 up front, and 5 per season over the length of a contract.

I didn't think yearly installments were still allowed? I thought all payments must be paid by end of season? Can anyone clarify.

pretty sure you're right mate. it all has to be paid up front - that's my understanding.

it will never be £30 million. everton dont have two bob to rub together

Yearly installments aren't allowed anymore between PL clubs

Scott,

This is where we differ. I agree, any player coming to the team must earn his spot & cannot expect the team to give it to him. This is correct. However, what Lukaku faced was something he could not have overcome. Lukaku can't challenge Torres even though he is a better player because Chelsea management was not prepared to move this dude. Then there's an unclear situation from last season. Don't tell me you know Lukaku asked for a loan willingly. Now, Costa, Drogba, Torres are Chelsea's priority. What chance does Lukaku have here? None! So, he said, it's better to leave now.

I think Lukaku could have overcome it. Ba was going on loan last season until the last minute, that would have left us with Eto'o, Torres and Lukaku. Lukaku would have had plenty of game time and he could have proven himself. Instead he wanted to go out on loan instead of proving a point to the manager. Also, it's not that we are not prepared to move Torres on, it's just that we can't, his wages are stopping us from doing that.

I personally believe that Lukaku had made the decision to leave before Drogba had arrived, and i don't believe we would have re-signed Drogba THIS season if Lukaku was going to stay. As soon as Diego Costa signed i think Lukaku wanted out, he won't fight to be the number 1 striker.

I would sympathise with him if he would at least try a season here but he hasn't even done that, he wants to be number 1 right now.

A move to Everton now looks imminent. Not really sure what Mourinho's plan is here considering he spent all last year complaining about his strike options

So our strikers for this season are:

Costa - Hopefully will be good, but unproven in the PL

Torres - Worst striker in the history of the club

Drogba - 36 years old and well well past his best

For me that's no better than:

Torres

Eto'o

Ba

Jose spent all last season moaning about his strikers and now this.

Yep a fee can be paid over the length of the contract although if the fee is indeed £30m (which I don't think it will be that high) I doubt that it would be only £5 million up front. Ironic as it may seem the rule was changed to this position a few years ago and the proposer of the rule change  was Everton!

The way VAT works for a business the size of Chelsea FC means that at the point of sale VAT is payable on the total sum irrespective how much has been paid over by the purchaser. Also we will have t pay up front training compensation to Anderlect

So if we sell him for £30 million a sum of £6 million will have to be paid over on our next VAT return

There are all sorts of smart ways of maximising the transfer fee and by so doing you can avoid payments to ex clubs in respect of transfer fees add ons, loyalty bonuses to players etc. Such as charging interest, including add ons triggered based on very limited number of performances, goals scored, league position, International Caps and the list goes on

I agree it's bad at the moment, but who knows, there's still 2 weeks before the start of the season, and a month of the transfer window.

Maybe in that time we will have a new number 9.

It's Mourinho's complaining about lack of options, immediately followed by Lukaku being sold, which I find the most surprising and downright bizarre.

Jose's taking a MASSIVE risk this season if we go into it with our existing 3. Genuinely think that if Lukaku goes on to score a barrel load at Everton and if we struggle up front at times during this coming season then it may well end up being bye-bye Jose.

f**king appalling decision if there is no plan to replace him. absolutely appalling.

Is this still the case between prem clubs though? I thought they stopped it after Portsmouth?

Scott,

Whatever the reasons are, either true or fiction made by the media, you or I will never know the truth. I am just sad to see this young and talented player being sold. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it.
