Oscar - Little Diamond

Cracking contribution from Oscar to date this season, really adding the end product with both goals and assists, taking on the responsibility himself.

To be ahead of Hazard, a boy gets a hell of a lot of the ball in attack, just shows how clinical Oscar's been.

Hopefully he carries the form into the second half of the season and with Costa missing the next three games he is one of the players we'll be looking to, to come up with a goal or two.

That Willian stat is painful to read, like someone pointed out just a rich man's Dirk Kuyt.

Great example of misinterpreting a statistic. Conclusions like this are what give a bad name to statistics.

Willian was involved or even crucial in the build up of way more goals than these numbers suggests. It's clear to see for everyone who watches the team play. He's not the best around but comparing him to Kuyt is a plain insult and no basis for any serious argument.

Indeed. Dirk Kuyt was a good player who was not often wasteful in front of goal. Its not a great comparison at all.

Willian is a different type of player who offers more in other areas, but less in front of goal. Each one has their own merits.

Willian gets in on the play a lot if that helps, last season if you look at most of our goals in the 2nd half of the season when he was playing more, you'll see how many of the goals he was involved in just roaming in that centre or starting off the counter attack.

We shouldn't get too carried away with stats, but that's not to hide away how ineffective it has been on that right side despite Ivanovic.

Not a popular opinion, but Oscar gets away with a lot of mediocre performances, and I personally feel he is somewhat overrated.

I realize he's being used as a more tactical player with a lot of positional responsibilities and maybe that has a lot to do with it.

He lacks a killer pass, lacks pace, and doesn't really have the ability to go past anyone. Other than a few impressive goals and a few flicks here and there, it seems to me he really doesn't influence the game as much as he should.

He's contributing to a goal by either scoring or assisting with one every two games.

That's the very definition of influencing matches.

Apparently unless a player can dribble around half the opposition they don't do anything.

If anything our very own Diego Costa has shown that you don't have to be particularly skillful, fast or even elegant in your play to be one of the best players in the team.

Of course noone's suggesting dribbling around half the team is what makes a player good, Fcf.

He's a good player who's inconsistent and seems to disappear in matches for long periods. Whilst previously he would always apply pressure on the opposition and get stuck in, he appears to be doing that a lot less. He'd actually offer a bit of physicality (oddly enough, given his slight frame!), unlike most games this season where he's busy doing simple 5 yard passes, losing posession or disappearing for long periods.

Yes, his numbers are pretty good, but surely there must be others who feel similarly about Oscar.

Not me, think he has been one of our best players this season.

We look much better with him than without and his selfless tracking often allows Fabregas to push forward from deep.

His pass completion is near on the same as the rest of the midfield and so is no more guilty of conceding possession as anyone else.

He was accused of not being involved in enough goals last season and now the criticism has shifted to "yeah he's numbers are good but...".

Just seems that for some fans he won't ever be good enough, maybe because they prefered Mata? Maybe because he isn't Hazard? I don't know but in terms of contribution he's up there with the most productive in the league despite Hazard and Fabregas being our main creative outlets.

I think he can improve his general play a lot, definitely. But you get what you get with Oscar. And that is excellent technique striking a ball, great work rate. pretty intelligent movement and decent tackling. What he lacks and I want to see him improve on is pretty much everything else. He does lose the ball a lot and I don't think that shows up in pass completion (he's getting dispossessed). But for now, I'm pretty happy with the numbers he puts up. As they say 'goals win games' but of course, keeping the ball and using it well is also pretty important.

The individual brilliance that Oscar or Willian could contribute has been sacrificed to the team effort, forcing them to use up more energy on pressing the opposition into giving up the ball in dangerous areas and affording more time and space for Fabregas and Hazard. They are just playing the role they have been given and thus far it has been a success.

I think today is a good test for him, obviously he has played many big games but we need him to step up today, if we keep losing the ball in the middle or in attack I can't see us winning this one at all, we have been far to sloppy this month bar the Swansea game.

Lately I've started to think he may not be good enough.

His third season now and he's not quite the player I hoped he would be.

Honestly, and I know this may be controversial, but Ericksen at Spurs looks a better player.

By your reckoning DB Cahill isn't that great, Willian needs upgrading and now Oscar isn't good enough either.

Quite a miracle that we are top of the league all things considered.

Well, Cahill's been dropped and Jose's just gone out and bought a right-winger, so watch this space !

Oscar was very poor against City, he was literally manhandled by Fernando.

I really hope he steps up in the next few matches (in terms of productivity) or he could be another out the door come summer--we can get atleast 35mil for him. Yes, I know he was impressive against Swansea but his near absence against City has given us something to worry about.

He wasn't the only one that was poor though, pretty much the whole squad look fatigued. I'm enjoying this seasons Oscar a lot more than last season's Oscar that's for sure.

I thought he was supposed to step up and show his individual brilliance because Fabregas wasn't there to take the spotlight away? That is a ridiculous argument if I've ever heard one by the way.

Of all the players we've sold and people have complained about, the only one I regret at all is Kevin De Bruyne who I think is a much better talent than Oscar.
