January 17, 201511 yr Was brilliant today, very good in the build up play, I never doubt his goal scoring or work rate. I would still say his overall play is sloppy but I'm not going to knock his performance today, he was at the heart of almost everything.
January 17, 201511 yr He was top class today, ran the game and worked his arse off, hope he keeps this form up after a sketchy few games.
January 17, 201511 yr He's young. Dips in form are natural, although taking the last six months of last season off was a joke. Just knots our team together nicely.
January 18, 201511 yr He was top class today, ran the game and worked his arse off, hope he keeps this form up after a sketchy few games.I don't think he was to be honest. Again, like in the Newcastle game, he was very sloppy but it's forgivable if he scores or the team plays like this. I like the fact that he looked at Jose when he misplaced a simple pass though. It shows that he knows he must do better.

Ive seen several reports giving Oscar MOTM, in a game where we were 4-0 up at half time with Oscar scoring half of those and playing a significant part in another I find it strange to see his performance described as sloppy. There isn't much more you could ask from your number 10, especially given our recent bad away form. If after a 5-0 win we're criticising a couple of misplaced passes then I think that's just placing unrealistic expectations on Oscar and the team.

No I don't think it's unrealistic at all and I'm never unduly harsh on him. Just because someone scores a brace does not mean his general performance was amazing. If he plays the same way and doesn't score I find myself defending him more often than not. He shouldn't be misplacing 5 yard passes and simple through balls as often as he does. He has the talent to be better and there's no problem with highlighting areas of his game that need improving. Edited January 18, 201511 yr by venom2011

I think he was class though you have to give it to him yesterday, he linked up with Fabregas and Hazard well, so did Willian. But again I still see he has a lot to learn even in that game. That's exactly what it is, goals aside you know that you must do better than that. That type of thing can cost us in the long run and when it's not going our way and we need some magic I don't think Oscar can be relied on, the lad might have a fair amount of goals in him but he isn't solid enough. He tends to be slow on the ball which we have all seen from him earlier in the season and he also gives the ball away which kills momentum. If you watch the first half against Newcastle it's kind of my point, everyone is playing bad, but you look at who is worse, when things aren't going our way we still wanted the ball to Fabregas and Hazard because they still looked like they could do something. Oscar was losing the ball at any given moment. He still has to improve that part of his game or stuff like that will cost us in the long run, we need every bit of quality available to win the league. I just find it strange highlight faults after such a comprehensive victory, the good immeasurably outweighs the bad. You've said he was sloppy and shouldn't be misplacing passes but this a performance where he scores from outside the area and takes a first time finish for his second... I know goals aren't everything but the skill and technique shown for those finishes alone makes it a good performance. Every player miss hits or misplaces a pass, even simple ones but given the overall contribution by Oscar yesterday and the emphatic team performance I don't think it is fair to be critical of him.
January 18, 201511 yr Its no surprise to see sloppy play etc when your 4 or 5 up, players will naturally attempt the more difficult pass, concentration levels will drop. Oscar, and other players of his ilk (hazard etc), often misplace passes as its their job to try the difficult things, the almost impossible to break down defences. I have no problem at all with it.
January 18, 201511 yr Oscar was clinical, to call him sloppy yesterday suggests you only watched MOTD highlights or intermittent stream ?? He was more instrumental yesterday than any other player, he was involved in just about everything, does any other player in the #10 position win the ball as much as Oscar ?

I understand your point, but I value the overall performance over 'moments'. He had a good game undoubtedly, but he was sloppy. What I find even more strange is that if you strip his goals away you'd have 10 posters flaming on this thread about how we need Sigurdsson instead of him, but apparently there's nothing a goal can't fix. It's fair to be critical (with respect) of any performance if you're striving for perfection and no one should ever apologise for that. When we signed Oscar the first thing I said was: 'He is going to be my favourite ever player because he combines his talent with immense work rate'. But that will never stop me from highlighting flaws in his performances. Oscar was clinical, to call him sloppy yesterday suggests you only watched MOTD highlights or intermittent stream ?? None of it is displayed in any highlight package so I have no idea how you came to that conclusion. And lastly, what does any of that have to do with my point.

January 18, 201511 yr What does that mean? If you remember back in days Barcelona had one of the best passing games. This trio reminds me something of this.
January 18, 201511 yr 85% pass completion yesterday, doesn't exactly scream sloppy.Stats without context won't exactly scream anything. 85% was also the lowest of the 5 starting midfielders.
January 18, 201511 yr Stats without context won't exactly scream anything. 85% was also the lowest of the 5 starting midfielders. But still not poor by any stretch of the imagination, and he also bagged 2 goals. I think the ball he rolled out of play in the first half is clouding your judgement slightly. He had a very good all round game yesterday.
January 18, 201511 yr Oscar can't win! Last season it was he doesn't score and assist enough, this season he's been doing that a lot more consistently and people still find something else to moan about He's only 23 and will keep on improving
January 18, 201511 yr 5-0 win, brilliant attacking display... and this? i guess some people just have to have a moan, even when there is nothing to moan about. personally, i couldn't give a sh*t about pass %, i care a lot more about goals and results. leave the possession/passing statistics for the likes of barcelona and arsenal who seem to care so much about that stuff. we won, scored 5 and kept a clean sheet all against a very good premier league side. why complain about anything?we are the best team in the league, and will prove that against city. everyone makes mistakes, our boys make comparatively few
January 18, 201511 yr Author Hello oscars no.1 fan here Cleverest player in the team as he seems to know who and when to apply pressure on the player with the ball and where our team need support and cover Big hearted and great lungs, he never gives up on anything. He can have patchy form like every one else but when on it he is simply world class as he was yesterday 23 years old and getting better and signed for 5 years - happy days

So when you're winning everything is great? Problems only show up if/when results go south? There is also a big difference between critical analysis and complaining/moaning. Learning to recognise this difference could be beneficial in the long run.
