September 5, 201510 yr I haven't seen much personal abuse aimed at him on this site, but the typical abuse on Twitter is repulsive, they are all a bunch of plastic fans on that site, not a term I even like using, but it's appropriate. As far as talkchelsea is concerned, the majority of them verbally abused Frank Lampard a while back, so I'm not surprised that they are reacting like childish idiots towards Brana. It's the RAWK of Chelsea, whether they like to admit it or not, they have short term memory's and judging by their Lampard and Brana posts, they like to forget the good that those players did for Chelsea. September 5, 201510 yr Scroll back to page 26 of this thread for a good read. We need page 26 Brana back!

That site is awful. Bunch of wannabe Madrid fans. Always want the new toy and flavour of the month and out with players who have been involved with the club longer than half of them have supported it.
September 6, 201510 yr Page 26 Brana wasnt any better at defending. He just kept coming up with goals so everyone ignored his shortcomings Not everyone. I've never rated him as highly as others might, especially going forward, but I think the goals have gone to his head. He is obviously under instruction to get forward but surely he's savvy enough to know when it's one foray upfield too many. the amount of times he gets caught upfield trying to make his way back to his real position (because after all he's not a winger is he?) after an attack breaks down really s*its me.
September 6, 201510 yr He's in a tough spot. This is the first time I can remember him genuinely being in danger of losing his spot since he cemented it. I do think he isn't being helped by the lack of fitness in the squad and the lack of cover from midfield. What we saw with Ashley Cole though was there are no sacred cows really. If Baba is training well and takes his opportunity then he simply must improve otherwise he will be done.

Spot on. He has always had frustrating technical flaws, but he made up for them with his goals/headers more or less (I still thought it was not enough). Now the negatives have increased, he has become slower, his passing has become sloppier and he does not score. Maybe he tries to force it by running forward all the time, but so far it has backfired horribly and it is time to bench him. Moreover, I read stories about Ivanovic being frustrated that the club offered him only a one year extension instead of two years and if that is the case I think the club should withdraw all offers and let him leave. This attitude is unacceptable. I would much rather prefer Azpi on the right and at least until January Baba on the left.
September 8, 201510 yr Anyone watch him for his country against France? Didn't watch the game, but I believe he plays CB for Serbia. (as an aside Remy was omitted from the squad) Edited September 8, 201510 yr by the special one
September 8, 201510 yr Look, he hasn't been good for a while and deserve to be dropped. However I do find ironic people are saying things like ' he's never a RB' or he's way over rated. It was only 12-18 months ago he was regarded the best right back in the league. People have short memories when things aren't going well, soon some will say Hazard is way over rated.

People have short memories when things aren't going well, soon some will say Hazard is way over rated. Not all rated him as that though.Plenty on here including myself have been pointing out for quite some time that defending wise Brana is pretty poor. It's his aggressiveness and knack of scoring important goals that has seen him win plenty of praise. Now the goals have dried up and all we see is him being taken to bits by average EPL players Edited September 9, 201510 yr by Chelsbear
September 9, 201510 yr He isn't even built like a full back, I can't think of any decent full back in world football over 6 feet except koralov, maybe Ramos is also, Ivan is 6'2 and well put together he is a CB, sure anyone can play anywhere but at this level it matters, a full back is supposed to be nippy and agile, he just isn't that way made and it shows.

Maicon was pretty good on his day, although he started to suffer defensively aswell.
September 9, 201510 yr Interesting point actually. A lot of the successful full backs at the moment are all under 6 foot. I've included a few premier league full backs too. Hopefully Rahman will be a name people bring up when mentioning impressive full backs. Alaba. Alba. Alves. Marcelo. Dave. Lahm. Rodriguez. Bernat. Carvajal. Bellerin. Juanfran. Baines Coleman
September 9, 201510 yr List of full backs over 6'0: Stefan Lichtsteiner Matteo Darmian Fabio Grosso Paolo Maldini Eric Abidal Willy Sagnol Maicon Paulo Ferreira Filipe Luis Luke Shaw Mario Melchiot I don't think the argument that 'a top full-back can't be more than 6 feet tall' really stands up... I
September 9, 201510 yr Do the same again without naming retired players and you'll find one list completely outweighs another. However if you want to name players from the past. Then I raise you. Cafu. Roberto Carlos. Javier Zanetti. Ashley Cole. Dan Petrescu. Gianluca Zambrotta. Lizarazu. Brehme. Gary Neville. Graeme Le Saux. Carlos Alberto.
September 9, 201510 yr And for the record. Only one of them before mentioned players are actually bigger than Ivanovic, Grosso, who interestingly also played as a winger. Edited September 9, 201510 yr by MayosNoun
September 9, 201510 yr See the problem with that is that your/OCIL's argument is that 'full backs over 6'0 are tend not to be decent'. Regardless of how many shorter full backs you name who are excellent, the initial argument isn't affected. My list named a good number of full backs over 6'0, some of whom are or were in fact world class. Addressing the 'over 6'0' argument with a list of full backs who are under 6'0 is as valid as me attempting to prove my own argument by listing the huge number of sh*t full-backs who are under 6'0: Kyle Walker Kyle Naughton Paul Konchesky Phil Bardsley Maynor Figueroa Danny Simpson Joe Bennett Kieran Richardson Andy Wilkinson Tony McMahon Eric Lichaj Stephen Warnock
September 9, 201510 yr Unfortunately, I think its time that Ivanovic is eased out of the starting XI picture. Last year he was probably one of the best players in the league, this year though it seems like hes back Lokomotic Moscow. He has probably been the worst performer on the squad. No second thoughts about it, all the wingers that hes faced this year, he would have handled them and contributed to the attack. Nowadays, he seems to have lost a step and the reality is that he is not getting any younger. Baba is on the wings waiting to get in, Dave should switch back to his natural position -if he is this good on the left, unnatural position- how good would be on the right?! The youth movement begins in the back, Ivanovic, for all that he has provided, is the first one to succumb to father time.

Since you quoted that could you please point my quote out where I said that. I'll wait patiently. Thank you. You just listed random full backs from lower teams which is completely irrelevant to our situation. The whole point of the comment was that the top end full backs tend to be under 6 foot, which has been proven correct. I asked you to name more top full backs and you provided the most irrelevant post in the history of this forum. If you don't believe that top full backs under 6 foot completely outweigh full backs over 6 foot, then I'm done here. There's no comparison.
September 9, 201510 yr You found 4 to my 13, hence adding in players from the past. The post stands. From all the top rated full backs in world football, a very high majority are under 6 foot. Does that mean full backs under 6 foot will always be better? No, of course not but the facts cannot be ignored.
September 9, 201510 yr You ladies need me to play referee or you going to play nice? We're all Chelsea here. You both make good points.
September 9, 201510 yr TBH I'm fed up talking about him, see my 46,000 posts (slight exaggeration) but I posted a lot. If anyone has watched him since he was taken from the CB position and dumped into the RB slot they would have surely noticed that he can't defend against pacy players, he can't turn, he leaves acres of space on on the right side due to his tendency to drift towards the centre and for the most part he saunters back when he is caught in the opponents 18 yard box when we have given up possession. You wonder why Willian or anyone else playing ahead of him on the right side finds it hard to score goals (yes I know Willian misses chances too) and join in the attack; it's because they are covering his sorry arse. There are times I think when he just wants to play the 'hero' rather than do what is right for the team. Yes, he has scored a few crucial goals but that doesn't make him a world class RB.....he made team of the year but will someone please take off their blue tinted glasses and see him for what he really is.....a very good Centre Back. Please just watch a random selection of games and watch him and his position, not where the ball is. I bow down to Jose's experience as a world class manager, but if it were me Ivan gets moved to the middle in place of Cahill or shares the duties with JT, Dave obviously gets his place back as the best RB we have.
